We certainly hope it is an isolated one since the pediatric special needs community already battles through so much for our children. With that said, after our district was unable to conduct an appropriate OT eval, we sought an Independent OT Eval. During this process, Focus was attentive and communicative. Once the District approved the independent eval, a date was set and we experienced a very thorough eval, discussed the findings & what recommendations would be with the therapist. We left feeling confident that our child's needs would now be met after a District review of their findings and recs. Upon receipt of the eval report from the District we were surprised to only see a recommendation for clinic based OT with no other School based recs in place to address the issues the therapist spoke to us about. Our child was denied services based upon this fact. We spoke to our advocate who suggested we contact Focus and inquire about the lack of School based recs. We were then informed by Focus that the district had requested changes in the report (changes they used to deny services). We were sent Focus's version of their original with School based recs. We asked that Focus participate in a phone conference with the District and us to clarify which report they stood by- Focus did not respond to this request and have not communicated with us further since. This was an Independent eval-the purpose of which was to avoid District manipulation and yet Focus not only allowed the District to change the report drastically to deny services needed, it refused to stand by its own work when necessary to secure the appropriate services. We are still dealing with the results of this negligence and unprofessionalism.

This business is a real gem in the Inwood community. In my experience with speech pathologists their dedication is phenomenal, whether being flexible to a family's schedule to providing acute advice. In short I would recommend Premium Therapy highly to any parent. Addressing a negative review I read - Dealing with speech development issues can be a taxing event to any parent and it is very plausible for one to direct their frustration where it is unwarranted. With that said I want to put forth the following as my experience with the staff: i) the multi-lingual staff has always afforded the parents the ability to choose the language to carry out the sessions in, ii) Based on my conversations with other parents that bring their children here: The manifestation of traits that would benefit from consultation by a specialist are communicated as feedback rather than a diagnosis, and iii) ) I've never seen a child diagnosed with a condition other than a speech related matter.

My experience with Premium Therapy Speech Services was rather disappointing. I took my child there…read morebecause when I asked the pediatrician what I could do about my child's speech delay she said I should have him evaluated. After calling the first time I was promised a call back for an appointment but after a few days I had to call back myself to ask again. Communication and organization was really not great. When I took my child there, I have to admit the place looked nice and people were welcoming. Well, appearances can be deceptive. After the paid evaluation took place, I had to call three times (again !) to get a report which was useless because it didn't take into account (and admitted so) the multilingual aspect. After that bad experience I researched a little bit about speech therapy and found out that a child's vocabulary had to be evaluated by adding the words in all languages. Anyway, to make a long story short I took my child to another therapist a couple of months later and my child has progressed a lot. He started Pre-K in a bilingual school in September and his speech has improved a lot in both languages. PS : Any reviewer who claims any business is the best in the 5 boroughs either is lying or hasn't seen a lot of New York. It's fine for a pizza place but a child's speech development is serious matter.

We have been seeing our speech therapist, Gabby, twice a week for sessions for approximately six months. Gabby is energetic, playful, and terrific with children, and my daughter (who is 2) loves her. We have also worked with Madeleine, Eliza, and Devon (as a secondary therapist in our daughter's sessions) and we think they are all wonderful. One of the biggest benefits for us was that this office accepts our insurance (Aetna) and submits claims on our behalf. I would also like to mention that our older daughter had a great experience in speech therapy here as well about 18 months ago. Ms. Chen does a great job finding the right therapists to work with children who are knowledgeable and caring.
