This is a cautionary tale! I've spent almost 10 thousand…read moredollars with Santana Landscape Hardscape in the last 4 months. My first experience 4 thousand dollars was satisfactory enough that I felt OK having them back. However, the second experience was a complete disaster! Initially it took several calls to David and several missed appointments to even connect. David and I finally got together to discuss the work and I was given a tentative price of $6500.00, to"oh maybe $7000.00" for cement work and sprinkler repair. While discussing the work we downgraded from the original cement work requested, to lava rock, and then another downgrade from lava rock, to bark chips. Each time we discussed the downgraded medium, I was told by David that it would be a "big cost savings to me". When the work was finally done and the workers left there was a huge pile of debris in my front yard (picture below). I was told they would come back in one to two days to remove the mess! While the work was being done David was nowhere around and there was no one to walk the final job with me or to explain what had been done. As I checked the "finished" work myself, I found that the drip-system, that was requested and agreed upon, did not exist, the repairs to the existing sprinkler system still had several leaks, our gravel driveway had huge gouges, holes and divots from maneuvering their trucks around and most heart breaking the pile of debris in the front yard was thrown on top of an ornamental swan planter, a memento from our daughters wedding. I had to lift one of the rail road ties off the swan myself...I'm 78 years old! But the final blow was when one of the workers told me that David had asked that I give him the check for final payment of $6900.00. Where was the savings from the down grade from cement work, to lava rock, to bark chips? I should have said NO and had David come and explain the bill to me himself! I did talk to David about the unsatisfactory workmanship and missing items which have since been completed, but this experience has left me with a very negative impression of Santana Landscaping and a caution for others to make sure you get a quote in writing!

Agreed to proceed with one bid at a time. Glad I did that. BTW bids came in far lower than other competitors. Now I know why. I'm not going to bash the experience with detail, but here's something to note: Skeleton crew. The regular down to earth blue collar workers they were had me trusting them but I found myself constantly asking questions as after the contract was signed, communication slowed drastically. I thought more detail would be discussed. Think this particular job was out of their lane and, to me, they left it incomplete/did the bare minimum/ couldn't wait to get outta there. They also were random in their work schedule. Sometimes there for half a day then you wouldn't see em for days. It took at least double the time projected. Thought maybe it could be a fluke as there were some noticeable issues with the business which seemed out of their control, so asked for some updates to job 1 bid. I was assured a bid would be revised/sent, but ironically, I cut the final check for the job completed, then I was ghosted. Tried to give this business benefit of the doubt, but they constantly showed red flags. Hey if you like letting a businesses take full control of your project, its basic and you don't really care about detail, this is a business for you. I had this company come out last summer. He built a couple of retaining walls and performed that…read morework beautifully. However the landscape portion was terrible. First of many problems: the watering controller he installed did not work properly from the get-go. I told Pete about it and requested a receipt for the controller (it was the end of the job so he wasn't planning to return). Instead he came out and fiddled with the controller and said it works fine. He left and it still didn't water according to the settings so he came out again (after the job was completed) and fiddled some more, saying again there was nothing wrong with the controller. He never gave me a receipt, so as the same problem kept occurring, I finally had to replace it. Because Pete never gave me a receipt (I suspect he used a controller he had sitting around, and not a new one for my job, however he told me it was "professional grade" and cost $300), I couldn't return it and had to spend more money on the new controller. Very irritating. Irrigation system and planting: I asked him to add on to the existing drip irrigation system and bring water to several fruit trees and numerous new shrubs I requested that he put in. However he installed 1 gal. drippers to everything, whether it was a large existing fruit tree or a new small shrub. Fruit trees require a lot more water...Pete told me he was an arborist so he should know the right amount of water fruit trees need. Now I'm having to switch out these drippers myself to something that provides adequate water. Again not something I should have to be doing. I requested all cascading rosemary shrubs in numerous locations. He installed half cascading rosemary and half something else (I don't know the name...he didn't provide any tags). My bad for not saying something at the time, as I thought the additional color might be pretty. Well, the other plants he selected COMPLETELY took over the area covering the slower growing cascading rosemary. Now I have to tear some of those plants out and put them elsewhere, so that I can see the plants I requested in the first place. Some of the new plants he put in began to die after a while so I looked a little closer to figure out why. Half the root system was above ground...the hole was not dug nearly deep enough! I tried to correct this but unfortunately the plants were too far gone so my effort was not in time. Finally, I asked Pete to shore up some fence posts that were lagging. It was a picket fence surrounding a small patch of my front yard. I asked him to go around and check each post. I am too trusting...I assumed he had done that. However, he only shored up 4 fence posts and not the posts on either side of the gate, the ones that needed attention the most. Overall, I am pretty unhappy with the job this company did for me. I read other reviews stating how detail oriented Pete was for them...He did not pay attention to the details of my landscaping project, and I'm not sure he dealt honorably with me about the controller problem. I did see a few bad reviews here and there but decided to overlook them as not everybody is perfect and was hoping that the overall quality of the positive experiences and review would shine through. This was honestly the worst contractor decision of my life. Pros: -Turf work and retaining wall look clean/sharp Cons: - Sales representative Jose kept promising me 0% finance and pushed the project to start asap. He even sent his crew to start unloading stuff without telling me. - I agreed to 0% finance plan and signed a formal contract with them on it only for the project manager to freak out on me on day of the project and kept calling/harassing me to pay everything within start/completion of the project in 48 hours. A huge difference between what I agreed and signed to. I explained that their financing bank had conditional approval already and what was agreed between me and their sales representative Jose but he didn't care and said Jose "overstepped and shouldn't have said that" and still demanded I pay everything asap for him and his team or they would charge me another $700 if they had to stop and wait for finance. He kept complaining this is what the original contract started, I said yes but Jose said we can switch and signed a new contract, but he didn't care and kept repeating the first version of the contract. Jose and I had signed multiple new versions as we made a lot of new revisions to the work. Horrible communication and definitely untrustworthy right from the start. He then decided to demand the entire check upfront while we wait for the bank, I immediately said no as I don't trust them at all. What's to stop them from cashing my giant check and then a third person calling me saying Juan overstepped and shouldn't have done this or that. - I explained to them that the bank verification took longer as I owned multiple property and they needed to review everything and that I was ok with starting later. Jose insisted to start asap and that a conditional approval was fine, apparently it was not as Juan did not accept that at all. It was exhausting going back and forth, there is literally no communication at all between the two. Juan was nice in the end, he explained Jose lied to "cover his own butt". But in the end I was the person that suffered for it. Paying everything upfront is a huge difference between being promised 0% finance for 12 months. - I was hoping that the quality of their work would shine through, but the pavers damaged the side of my home and I told them but they refused to take responsibility for it. - I also paid extra for charcoal border with my pavers but they got it wrong as well. I had to point it out for them to switch it. Juan was good about it, but it is exhausting to have to watch them for everything to make sure it was right and that they are following what was written in the contract. There were other things I requested done that weren't done that I had to remind them of as well. - Cleanup after alright was 80% good. A lot of plastic bottles, gum wrapper, bottle caps, random pieces of trash and tire marks all over my driveway after they were done. - The second worst experience of this is easily the pricing agreement with them. We agreed on a price for the wall, paving and turf work. One of the addendums was to add lights with a transformer. However, after not being fully informed of how it would work, I decided to remove it. Jose told me that it would jump up the price to $2,150 and I had the screenshot to prove it. I showed Juan but he kept insisting that everything was only $1,100 and that he would refund me an additional $700 as a favor for me and to not write a bad review on everything that has happened to me. I was confused as basically the price was going up 2150 for the work but removing it only dropped down 1,100 and that I was basically lucky that he was giving me another 700 back as well. In the end, I am still negative $350 for the lighting work that I removed. The price basically increased per our original contract and Juan couldn't explain why he was still charging me that higher amount if I was not getting anything else new or in addition to it. At this point, I was beyond mentally exhausted and just agreed to it to get it over with. I was not going to post up a review online as it was just too tiring and now I am stuck looking for somebody to fix the exterior of my home after their damage -I have never thought about paying contractors less than what we agreed on for their work until I met a company as unprofessional and irresponsible as this one. Even worse, I reported this to their company and got ignored.

I had a slow leak coming from my water valve in which I was losing a lot of water. I researched…read moreplaces that could fix the issue and came across this business. I called and spoke with Randeep, who scheduled me within 2 days with an irrigation specialist. I had an appointment this past Wednesday for Danny to come by and take a look at the leak. Not only did Danny fix the leak, he replaced the valve completely with newer, more up to date parts as my home is 20+ years old. After addressing the original issue, he noticed that two of my sprinklers were not functioning and replaced them, even without me asking! Wow! He then recommended that I replace my sprinkler timer as well, since it was also an older/outdated model. I purchased a new timer, in which he took the time to walk me through step by step to make sure I understood how to use the timer and make necessary adjustments and also made sure to go through the schedule not once, but twice to ensure I was satisfied with the watering schedule and overall water flow. During the walkthrough, I noticed there was a huge leak coming from a drip line in my backyard that caused a puddle in my lawn. He explained that the leak in the drip line may have been caused my running it over with a lawnmower or by me accidentally hitting the line with a weed wacker. I asked Danny how much it would cost for him to fix the leak, and he said, "This is such an easy fix, I'm almost positive you can fix it on your own." He then recommended the parts I needed to fix the leak, and sure enough, I was able to fix it on my own! He made sure to keep in contact with me while I went to Home Depot to make sure I bought the right parts. Danny went above and beyond and provided exceptional service! He was patient, honest, kind, and very knowledgeable, which is a true reflection of the company. Nowadays, it's hard to find a trustworthy company that won't take advantage of you!
