Yay that was such a wonderful surprise. I would definitely recommend Excalibur Fence and Decks for any wood project you have. he does more than fences and decks. if you have an idea, he can build it!! I appreciate their hard work and especially the price I paid. if I could give 10 stars, I would. Dianne Ziegler

Paid over $30,000 for a deck that had to be torn out and completely rebuilt…read more We hired Excalibur Fence & Decks (Clayton Pafford) to build an 800 sq. ft. custom Trex deck. Clayton promised to be on site personally, offered a 5-year warranty on materials and workmanship, and said the job would take about two weeks. We paid $17,000 up front, before any work began. Here's what we got instead. A job that took three times as long as promised. The work dragged on for six to seven weeks, working only half days. All the while, Clayton kept asking us for more money for payroll. Sloppy workmanship throughout. Boards were crooked and had to be redone. Both benches had to be rebuilt, and even shortly thereafter, one was visibly tilting downward and uneven. Plugs were missing or sticking out, and the trim work was done improperly. The picture-frame border and slight overhang we asked for were not delivered. The cuts, angles, leveling and fasteners were all substandard A foundation that wasn't sound. When our new contractor tore the deck out, he found post holes only about 8 inches deep with very little concrete (Southlake building code requires a minimum of 12 inches). These support beams were able to be pulled out by hand. Every post had to be replaced with new support posts that were installed at a proper depth. A "warranty" that meant nothing. When we raised these problems, Clayton was resistant to acknowledging them, let alone fixing them. We finally had an attorney send a formal demand letter. Clayton's response was dismissive and unprofessional, and he was more interested in deflecting blame than in taking responsibility for his work. In the end, we paid more than $30,000 for the deck. Then we spent more than $20,000 in documented costs to have a licensed Trex dealer fix it. Our advice: If your project needs skill and attention to detail, look elsewhere. And if something goes wrong, don't count on Clayton to make it right.
