You can try to butter up the readers with details in your story, but this was a simple job requiring 2 holes from the attic, where the detectors would go. A 3rd hole leading outside from the attic since wiring was required from the attic to the garage and it did have to go from the exterior of the house (in a conduit). And last thing, from inside the garage into the room (basement) they're both on the same level and a common wall between the garage and this basement room is shared.
