Even though I was impressed with how beautiful the old building was and how well stocked the shelves were with books, that was not why I was there. Me and my husband had made an appointment to get our passports processed. I made a appointment a few weeks ago (online) for 5pm. We were there a few minutes early, so the young lady at the desk told us to have a seat. Sure enough at 5pm exactly another young lady comes out (forgot to get her name) and goes over all our paperwork. She was very precise, making sure every line was filled out correctly. I didn't need my birth certificate, because I had a old passport (that had expired), but my husband needed his, since it was his first time getting one. The cost is $130 per person for the passport. An additional $35 per person to the Jenkintown Library for their processing fee. They only take personal checks or money orders. That's right!, no cash or credit cards. You also need to have your picture taken (before you get there) at a place that takes passport photos. I had mine taken at Staples for $14.99. All in all the appointment went pretty smooth after filling out the paperwork. They made us feel welcome and I would highly recommend the Jenkintown Library for your passport needs.

So since I rather fancy myself to be an entreprenuer, I figured I would call on them and check them out. As it turned out, the level of customer service was excellent. I was greeted at chamber offices by Martha Coakley, who was helpful enough to give anyone with a service-related phobia nightmares. She cheerfully and relentlessly explained the advantages of Chamber membership to me until I felt like a boob for not having joined directly upon graduating high school. Furthermore, she had distilled useful information from my confused rambling during our initial phone conversation and had an entire package specially put together just for me. I felt quite special. The Chamber is set up so members can interact with each other, and find the types of businesses they are looking to do business with. With a pretty comprehensive schedule of events, they succeed in creating some powerful networking opportunities. The added bonus of having Chamber guidance with these events makes them less confusing and more productive than the average networking party. Also, the divergence of types of event means that no matter what the profession there is a event that will appeal. Martha explained this all to me in clear fashion, and mentioned that as an added bonus my business would get extensive usage of the Chamber's meeting rooms and facilities in Center City. I would definitely advise the serious business person to check out the Chamber. The networking is great, and so are the people.

The good news is that if you happen to get pulled over in Limerick and happen to contest your ticket, the people behind the counter do their best to answer your questions and get you scheduled fairly quickly. I spoke with someone the day I got the ticket and she immediately told me I'd be able to mail in my hearing request since I had come in before the paperwork made it's way back to the office. Plus when I spoke with them on the phone, Pat always remembered who I was (I have a very distinct address I guess) and she did her best to help me schedule a hearing around my work schedule. Once my hearing finally rolled around, they had one officer covering all the hearings that day. It was early in the morning, so everyone was in a fairly good mood. The judge was also fair with the verdict and he and the officer dropped my points and my fine as result. The only thing that kind of sucks is that if you don't bring cash to pay your fine, they charge a $4 convenience fee to use a credit/debit card. I hope I won't be back any time soon; once is more than enough, no matter how pleasant the employees are!
