A fun and free way to learn a little more about Aberdeen's maritime history. This museum has some cool interactive stuff, to help pull in any age, and the displays are well kept and visually appealing, which makes you want to see and learn more. I didn't spend too much time reading every single word written, but I skimmed most things and lingered longer over the things that caught my eye. It's not a huge museum, so if you're a history buff, you might like to read more and spend a bit longer. Overall, it's a nice little gem tucked off to the side behind Vue cinema, and it's definitely worth checking out if you've got a hankering for understanding the city of Aberdeen a bit better or are looking for a few things to do to avoid a rainy afternoon but still get out of the house. I'd visit again if I had folks with me who were visiting Aberdeen! read more

Good place to take children. For me, the view of the harbour, looking out of the window, from inside, was the most impressive. Massive boats from Scandinavia and all over the world. Some good displays in particular one oil painting of a ship battling huge waves, dark and foreboding clouds, stood out. It was ok. Does not even come close in comparison to Scott's Discovery vessel. read more

My 11, 9, and 8 year old went here. I have been to several Maritime museums and we enjoyed this one. It's not overwhelmingly large - you can see it all in 60-90 minutes. The displays about the north sea oil rigs were most memorable for us. There is, of course, lots on the history area and it's port. That was good, too. I didn't think I'd enjoy a maritime museum so much. My husband Rick suggested this place. I suppose that being the rail enthusiast that he is means he's also interested in other transportation subjects. But this is a very interesting museum showing the history of the North Sea and it's relationship to Aberdeen. It incorporates a part of the Provost Ross House, which was built in the 1500s. It also incorporates a part of Trinity Congregational Church. It adds some modern touches though particularly the connection between the two. I liked the North Seas exhibit, which is a temporary one and is represented by many countries. It shows how the North Sea is a connector rather than a divider. I guess it's altogether fitting that the newer connector hosts the offshore oil exhibit, complete with a drilling platform, particularly since the Gulf Coast oil spill was happening while Rick and I were visiting. read more

Aberdeen is the oil capital of Europe so where better to learn about the history of oil and gas which goes back around 300 years. It is located in the Ship Row (it's not far from Aberdeen Harbour). I went here with my nephew and nieces and it is fantastic for children. They loved running around on their pretend oil and gas platform and enjoyed all of the tools and activities/exhibits that were there to see. This is definately a place for any children to be taken to and shows Aberdeen as it's finest. In addition to the exhibits and platform, there is a lovely giftshop which sells the usual souveniers - books, toys and gifts to suit all. There is a cafe too but we didn't have time to adventure into it, but i'm sure it's as good as the rest. read more

I love this museum. It´s not only interesting but is has also very cool interactive enviroment. I spent a lot of time by playing with submarine :-) It has several floors and each floor is focused on something else. But all and all it´s about the sea life and oil industry. Local staff is friendly and helpful. There is a lift and actually whole place is wheelchair friendly. read more

Very interesting free museum. Lots of displays related to North Sea Oil.

Great museum about the rich maritime history of Aberdeen. Especially interesting is to see how the city has changed over the years in size and wealth because of the offshore oil drilling business. Great for children as there is also a puzzle tour they can make. read more

This is a nice little place to visit and being free as mentioned is definitely worth a look. It also keeps all the exhibits interesting with the perviously mentioned modern touch so is good for the children as some museums can be a bit tedious. This is also well located in the centre so useful if you've got free time. read more

This was a very modern building and free to get in. It has a good view of the Harbour area and the exhibits are very interesting giving the history of Aberdeen. The exhibit I liked best was the oil rig set up and the way you could see how the bunks are arranged and the protective suits you have to wear on the helicopter rides out to the rigs. There are several model boats. There is a good cafe on the lower floor and it has a lift in the building so is very accessible if you are disabled although the building itself is at the bottom of a big hill. There is a good shop inside with very good quality gifts. Altogether a very enjoyable place to visit. read more

Used to live in Aberdeen and have spent many an afternoon here. Each time there has been plenty of activity based stuff on for children. Reasonably priced cafe and entrance to the museum is free! read more
