As someone who works in a doctor's office, I know this can be done. When I explained that, he snapped, "Since you know everything, find a new practice." I said I would, and he responded with, "OK, we'll deactivate your account." That alone was rude and uncalled for--but what shocked me most is that he told me they don't document a parent's personal concerns unless they believe it to be the "truth." That's outrageous. Ignoring a parent's input because it's "personal" or might not be "true" is a dangerous mindset in healthcare. I'm taking my child to a new practice--one that values communication, professionalism, and above all, patient safety.

It used to be great, but something has changed and now I feel like I can't trust them. Long story short, question everything or you'll end up paying $ later. My kids have been going to there for ~3 years, my first child is 6 and I now have a 1 year old. Incident #1) I had to change my insurance at work and we let them know ahead of time. They refused to see us for over an hour past our appt time to wait for their coordinator to verify we were covered. I'm fully covered and even offered to be billed so I could just submit to my insurance myself, but this wasn't allowed. Made me feel like they thought we couldn't afford it or couldn't trust us and wasted time an infant waiting. I get it if we were new, but after 3 years without ever having payment issues? Plain rude. Incident #2) I was told some meds my son needed were not available over the counter and I had to purchase the prescription. Dr refused to tell my husband what they were and instructed him to just leave his pharmacy info and she was calling it in while rushing him and my two kids.out. Ended up paying three times what I should have for cetirizine and fluticasone... Aka generic childrens Zyrtec and Flonase. I won't even start with her suggesting my 11 month old would need to go to a neurologist cause he doesn't want to walk after a sprained ankle. Makes me wonder if she's getting kickbacks or bonuses for sending us elsewhere and fooling us into getting over priced prescriptions. Watch your wallets and verify your prescriptions before purchasing!

They really try to make your little one feel as relaxed and comfortable as possible. Making appointments is easy, and I have never had any trouble getting a same day appointment if my son is sick or there is an immediate problem that needs to be addressed, even on the weekend. They have early morning hours to call and ask general medical questions, which is especially helpful for new parents. I highly recommend Children's Medical Associates. Tip for new patients/parents: if your child is going for a sick visit, when you exit the elevator go to the left into waiting room "C". That's the area for sick appointments. If your child has a routine check up, when you exit the elevator go to the right. Check the sign on the wall inside the office that tells you which waiting room (A or B) you need to go to depending on which doctor you are seeing.

Over the years, I've dealt with rude nurses or doctors, and I'd make sure to remember their names so I could avoid them next time. But this experience was beyond unacceptable. This time, we had Dr. Roman Kishi, and his rudeness was something I feel obligated to warn everyone about. He had the audacity to lecture me about my teenage son supposedly missing shots and not coming in for a yearly checkup. My son is perfectly healthy, and the only shot he was missing was the one required for seniors. Then, this doctor had the nerve to tell me that I'd be kicked out of the children's medical system if we didn't come in every year. And as if that wasn't enough, he started asking me more questions, to which I asked, "Why are you asking me that?" His response? "To see if we would GET ALONG." Are you kidding me? My son is healthy and only needed a basic check-up. I can take him anywhere for that. We travel overseas every year, and let me tell you, the healthcare there is not only cheaper but also way better than the treatment we've received here. This level of disrespect is completely unacceptable.

She was there for less than an hour, and all that was performed by the doctor was a cervical exam. She was found to be having pre-term contractions, with no dilation, and was then sent home. My wife received an invoice for $396.90. The hospital billed the insurance $2,646.00 and the insurance paid $3,784.10! All this for a cervical exam at the emergency room! I called INOVA billing on December 17 to inquire about the charges. I was told that the invoice would get sent over to see if it was coded correctly. I also requested a detailed itemized bill, with a breakout of the services provided. What I received was very basic and didn't provide much information. It is shocking that INOVA hospital would bill such a high amount for just a cervical exam. This appears to have been billed improperly and I called to investigate. INOVA billing didn't get back to me, so I opened up a BBB complaint. INOVA denied any wrongdoing, and now I'm going to contact my insurance to get an audit because this doesn't add up. $3700 paid by the insurance for a cervical exam, and I still owe about $400 in co-insurance?!?! How can INOVA be a nonprofit?!?!

DISCLAIMER: My apologies in advance for this lengthy review. I wanted to document the horrible…read morecustomer service my wife and I experienced from the INOVA FAIRFAX HOSPITAL NICU during a 3.5 month span. The best part of this review is that my wife and I gave birth to a healthy baby girl. Due to her being a preemie, she stayed in the hospital for an extended period where we experienced first hand the broken healthcare system and instances of malpractice within the NICU. Regarding the care of our daughter, it was a frustrating experience from the beginning! There was a great communication barrier between us and the hospital staff, to include front desk personnel, nurses, doctors, supervisors and upper level hospital management. To make a long story short, this hospital failed us, often picking and choosing what protocols they should follow, and not providing key information to us that they promised to deliver. In our initial complaint, we spoke to the supervisor to explain the discrepancy in communication, and all they could do is apologize, and attempted to justify the behavior of their staff. In addition, we noticed a big disservice that the nurses were providing. Many nurses were on their phones, reading books and having leisure conversations outside of the infants rooms while alerts were going off that required immediate attention for their assigned babies. There was also a clear incompetence displayed by the night-time staff and nurses compared to the dayshift. Calling at night-time for updates was a nuisance due to the ignorant staff saying that they did not know the answers to basic questions. We would often be advised to just check with the day shift. Doctors and nurses alike agreed that the night-time staff doesn't really know anything and verified that the care at night is often not up to par! Therefore, the night-time staff doesn't really do anything to advance the child. There is also a disparity in the amount of minority (African-American) nurses at the unit. The few black nurses that provided care for our daughter expressed concerns with how the unit was being handled. Specifically, one of our daughter's nurses explained her reasoning to transition from full-time to part-time due to her inability to do what she studied and practiced for years regarding taking care of babies. Instead, she explained that at INOVA Fairfax, the nurses are simply tasked with following the doctor's orders even if it is contrary to what the child needs. Although the nurses are the primary care-givers for the children, their feedback is not really valued and that presents a major disservice to the families. As it relates to the doctors, it was frustrating due to the many doctors we would see on a week to week basis, all had differing opinions regarding our daughter's care. In most instances, it seemed as if no action was their best course of action instituted. As a result, every milestone that our daughter accomplished was initiated by us. With such a slow trajectory regarding our daughter's care, it inspired us to look into how her development could be expedited to get her home as quickly and safely as possible. Every suggestion that we made was implemented, and our daughter never had to go backwards. That presents a major quandary on behalf of the hospital because the doctor's get paid to make the decisions. Consequently, in this case, we were proposing all the decisions, and they would just say, "ok, then, let's try it." There is plenty more that transpired, but due to limitations I cannot share. However, if you are a minority and are having a baby, you may want to reconsider contrary to INOVA Fairfax.

Note: This location is now called "Kids Watch Urgent Care"…read more UPDATE: 36 hours after I wrote this post, my son who I took in for a suspected ear infection but they diagnosed as "fussiness in baby", spiked a 102 fever during the July 4th holiday weekend and spent the entire day inconsolable and tugging on his ear. I took him to a different urgent care where he was diagnosed with an ear infection, unsurprising to everyone, except apparently Dr. Dhaliwal. My frustration is not from the fact that my expectations didn't meet the doctor's "medical expertise" but rather that both me and my son were treated terribly and like complete idiots. Good doctors miss things, they're not perfect, but good people don't talk down to patients/caregivers and belittle them. Kindness goes a long way in medical care. I would strongly encourage others to find a different urgent care. Original post: Easily the worst, most condescending, unprofessional medial experience I've had for either myself or my kids. I was talked down to, dismissed, and treated like an idiot when I tried to advocate for my son. Not only did one provider give one diagnosis for my son the owner came in after and completely negated everything the first provider had said. There's clearly a disconnect in communication and training at this business and I do not plan to bring my children there ever again. No wonder this place was empty the day before July 4th when every other urgent care was slammed...
