Tip for new patients/parents: if your child is going for a sick visit, when you exit the elevator go to the left into waiting room "C". That's the area for sick appointments. If your child has a routine check up, when you exit the elevator go to the right. Check the sign on the wall inside the office that tells you which waiting room (A or B) you need to go to depending on which doctor you are seeing.

Dr. Osorio checked her ears and said that she had a very minor infection that did not require antibiotics (she did not write a prescription). In total, Dr. Osorio spent about 3-4 minutes with my daughter. However, she billed us for a Level 4 office visit, which requires a moderate level of Medical Decision Making and/or at least 30-39 minutes of time spent on the patient's care. None of the symptoms, tests, diagnoses, or amount of time justified billing this office visit as Level 4. I contacted CMA's billing department to ask for an explanation of why this visit was billed as Level 4 rather than Level 3 (which is how sick visits are normally billed). According to Kim and Leanne, the billing process is subjective and medical providers have complete discretion on how to bill office visits. Erika was rude and hostile (she hung up on me) and Dr. Osorio refused to speak with me despite numerous requests. I filed a complaint with the Virginia Department of Health Professions and I am considering other legal options.

The receptionist told me I have to request it in an email (which they do not have an email address listed on their website and they did not respond to the message I sent on their website) and also said I would have to pay 10 cents per page because they'd have to print it out and it uses ink. Then I'd have to come in physically to the office to pick up the records. 10 cents is nothing but its just a hassle having to send an email to request the records then going in person to get the records. With Kaiser and several other practices, they now have online patient portals where you can access your medical records at any time. So I wish Annandale Pediatrics would become more up to speed with this as well. But I have absolutely no complaints about her care, they took excellent care of her. My only recommendation would be that they start offering an option for people to set up online patient portals to view medical records. I also had to request paper copies of her immunization records for her daycare a year ago as well.

I am comparing this with an emergency room visit with Sentara and the difference in care is absolutely astonishing. Following the Sentara Emergency Room debacle on Monday April 4 (I posted a negative review about this experience on SENTARA's yelp page), I was admitted to Inova Fairfax women's hospital. Within 8 hours, they had planned a pain regimen and course of treatment that took only 2 days. my nurses checked on me between every 45 mins to an hour, and every call button was answered promptly. Sometimes when I called for a nurse and was in a pain crisis, my inova nurse answered with pain medication options ready in anticipation for quick treatment so I wouldn't suffer more than necessary. During my stay I was able to witness my nurses training nursing students, and Inova staff are collectively thorough, precise, and efficient. Before I was even discharged, Inova Case manager staff already had my follow up appointments scheduled, in home physical therapy approved by my insurance and scheduled and my prescriptions delivered. I was discharged Friday April 8 afternoon around 5pm. on Saturday April 9 at approx 9 am they called following up with my care and asked what they could have done better, if anything at all. I am beyond thankful for everyone at INOVA. (Esp my nurse Cindy, who checked on me every 45 minutes even when i didn't call and always with a heartfelt caring demeanor.)

She was there for less than an hour, and all that was performed by the doctor was a cervical exam. She was found to be having pre-term contractions, with no dilation, and was then sent home. My wife received an invoice for $396.90. The hospital billed the insurance $2,646.00 and the insurance paid $3,784.10! All this for a cervical exam at the emergency room! I called INOVA billing on December 17 to inquire about the charges. I was told that the invoice would get sent over to see if it was coded correctly. I also requested a detailed itemized bill, with a breakout of the services provided. What I received was very basic and didn't provide much information. It is shocking that INOVA hospital would bill such a high amount for just a cervical exam. This appears to have been billed improperly and I called to investigate. INOVA billing didn't get back to me, so I opened up a BBB complaint. INOVA denied any wrongdoing, and now I'm going to contact my insurance to get an audit because this doesn't add up. $3700 paid by the insurance for a cervical exam, and I still owe about $400 in co-insurance?!?! How can INOVA be a nonprofit?!?!

I took him to a different urgent care where he was diagnosed with an ear infection, unsurprising to everyone, except apparently Dr. Dhaliwal. My frustration is not from the fact that my expectations didn't meet the doctor's "medical expertise" but rather that both me and my son were treated terribly and like complete idiots. Good doctors miss things, they're not perfect, but good people don't talk down to patients/caregivers and belittle them. Kindness goes a long way in medical care. I was talked down to, dismissed, and treated like an idiot when I tried to advocate for my son. I connected those ideas with hospitals because hospitals have to keep going through challenging situations, day and night, while teams work together to care for patients and help them recover as much as possible. ‍ And Inova Fairfax is especially meaningful to me because it is Inova's flagship medical center. It is also home to Northern Virginia's only Level I Trauma Center, where trauma teams are available around the clock for life-threatening injuries. ‍ I personally think of Inova Fairfax as "the greatest" because of how special and amazing this hospital feels to me. It has so many medical teams, specialties, services, and people working together toward the same goal of helping patients. But this vibe video is about more than just the hospital itself. It is also about overcoming difficult challenges. Hospitals see some incredibly challenging situations which patients and families may not know what is going to happen next. Healthcare teams cannot make every difficult situation disappear, but they can keep working, caring, treating, researching, communicating, and supporting patients through those challenges. ‍‍‍ To me, stamina means having the strength to keep going even when something is difficult. It means facing a challenge, taking things one step at a time, learning from what happens, and continuing to work toward something better. That's also why I wanted to dance it out! I wanted my dancing to capture that feeling of being thrilled when a difficult challenge starts getting better, that moment when something that once seemed overwhelming becomes more hopeful. Because she had a life-threatening reaction to anesthesia about 10 years ago, when she flatlined during surgery, we were extremely hesitant. Combined with the circumstances there, we decided to take her to Fairfax Hospital. That decision led us to Dr. Titus Park and his incredible team, and we are so thankful it did. From the moment we arrived, Dr. Park had a clear plan that did not involve anesthesia. He immediately put our entire family at ease with his calm confidence, compassion, and professionalism. My daughter was in excruciating pain--a true 10 out of 10. She asked one of the nurses if she would pray with her, and without hesitation, she kindly did. That simple act of kindness meant more than words can express. When Dr. Park successfully put her shoulder back into place, the relief was immediate. My daughter looked him in the eyes and said, "I could just kiss you!" It was such a heartfelt expression of gratitude because her pain was instantly gone. What also stood out was Dr. Park's wonderful bedside manner. Even in the middle of a stressful situation, he found a way to make us smile. He asked my two daughters, now both in their late 30s, which one was my favorite and which one had been the cutest baby.
