Derrell and his helper came by to assess the situation the day after my husband noticed our furnace blowing cold air. It turned out that one of our two furnaces was leaking carbon monoxide ( no bueno!). One furnace was cracked internally, and Derrell used his camera to show us where the cracks were, and to show us how the other furnace was close to malfunctioning the same way. Derrell listed some furnace prices, we discussed our options, and decided to move forward. When he couldn't get our quote to us the first night, he texted to let us know he hadn't forgotten about us, but that the furnace that we planned on was not available. He then worked with us to get an excellent rate on high-quality, high-efficiency furnaces, with an arrangement to work with him in the future on our cooling system in the spring. On the job, his entire crew was friendly, respectful, efficient, and professional. They were even super friendly to our pooch. When they hit a huge challenge with our ancient, stone-walled basement, they worked through it with a can-do attitude and got the job done. They also cleaned up nicely at the end, which is something my husband, a plumber and carpenter, notices a lot of tradespeople don't do here. Clear and timely communication beginning to end. It is refreshing to deal with a company that takes pride in the work and has a high standard of professionalism for its employees. I hate to say that we've encountered a lot of flakiness, and lack of quality and professionalism in the trades here in Pittsburgh, but it's true. Unfortunately, there's too much "that's good enough, I suppose," along with unprofessional employees (enter variety of issues here--complaining, rudeness, loudness, laziness, lack of skills, lewdness...). Below is full story: My landlord's standard general contractor could not work on furnaces and so he sub-contracted out the work to these guys. We were told that they were coming on Wednesday, February 5, and that I was receiving a call before they came. I was able to work remotely that day from home and was ready for them to show. I went to walk the dog outside, took my phone with me, and came back to an unmarked truck parked along the road. The workers had just let themselves in our house while I was walking the dog. I yelled "hello" from upstairs since the truck was unmarked, and I never got a call that they were on their way, and no one answered my hello. I went downstairs and they already had a panel off the furnace. I was scared since I never got a call and the truck doesn't have any business logo or decal. I asked them, "Do you guys just let yourselves in to people's houses? I was out walking the dog and was told you were calling first, and took my phone with me." They just said that their boss never told them to call and that they were sorry but were in a rush, so they let themselves in after no one answered when they knocked. Then I went back upstairs and the upstairs bathroom toilet had the seat still up with urine on the seat. So, I went back downstairs and asked them, "Did you guys just use the bathroom on your own as well? You left the toilet seat up." The older gentleman denied it but the younger one apologized and said it was him. Afterward, they went outside to make a few phone calls. They came back in and the younger gentleman said he had to go to other calls/make other stops and to go get us a part - a smart sensor or something - and that he would be back later that day. I confirmed with him that I'd be here all day if they came back later. He also wasn't sure if Joe (the landlord's general contractor) was paying for the part or what, and that they will get better and work on their communication. They have never come back to actually fix the part since that late morning they said that they'd be back Wednesday afternoon. It wasn't until they left, that I saw the back of their sweatshirts had the business on it. They were from "Allegheny Plumbing, Inc - Heating Cooling."

Well, came up as bad,…read moreI was very skeptical so I asked other companies for another opinion.. let me just tell you how much this company shined with that immediate comparison alone. Not only was our heat exchanger broken, but most of the circuit boards were fried. Blowing not only CO2 into our house but they also made us aware of a scary possible electrical problem in our electrical supply or the electrical in our home, for the boards to be fried but it never popped the breaker.. The owner of the business came out the next day to give us a quote. He checked all the returns, the supply, the duct work and the furnace itself. Went over our budget and our needs before giving us information on what he felt were our best options. He was extremely friendly and very polite. And was very upset he didn't have any space heaters to lend us to keep us warm in the meantime.. which I never expected him to offer in the first place. After we gave him the go ahead they started work Thursday October 13th. Immediately got it running to the point that we had heat! Yay!! Now we did require more work than the simple swapping of furnaces so the install took three full days, Thursday, Friday and Monday. But every single person at our home, was courteous and polite, neat with not only their work but between days, and left the area spotless when they left. What the owner, Greg, said was very true.. I hired this company for attic mold remediation and related repairs. There was no clause or discussion requiring additional payment before the project was finished. The company completed only part of the work and then left the rest--specifically insulation and drywall--unfinished. This left my attic without insulation during the coldest part of winter. When I followed up to have the work completed, my calls went unanswered, despite being told they would return. One day, I came home from an appointment to find the workers packing up after completing only the mold remediation portion. They had the owner on speakerphone. At that point, the owner demanded additional payment before proceeding with the remaining work. This had never been discussed and was not reflected anywhere in the written agreement. I calmly pointed that out. The owner then proceeded to yell at me for an extended period of time over terms that simply did not exist in our contract. The interaction was aggressive, unprofessional, and completely out of line. During that conversation, I even tried to de-escalate and discussed possibly separating the remaining work due to his behavior. However, I made it clear that my preference was for the job to be completed properly and with care, as originally agreed. That never happened. After that interaction, the company stopped responding altogether. I ultimately had to hire someone else to finish the job. To be fair, the employees I interacted with in person were kind and professional. However, they also did not respond to my follow-up attempts, which I can only assume was direction from the owner. If you are considering this company, make sure every detail is explicitly documented and be aware that the project may not be completed as agreed. Additionally, the owner's conduct alone should give serious pause before entering into a contract.

Both times I was on the road driving home for scheduled appointment and could not respond. I got home 15 minutes before appointment and confirmed by text and returned phone call of technician, Chris. Chris was snippy and seemed to think sending me a request for confirmation only on day of appointment and only within 45 minutes was satisfactory and my not responding right away had him snippily ask if i was still interested because now because i didn't respond 45 minutes before appt he can't be there til 1.5 hours later than scheduled appt. What the hell? In my experience confirmations are NEVER last minute. They could easily have confirmed yesterday. Since I am on time for appointment, they want to find a cop-out excuse to be late? No, thanks. Poor attitude, late confirmation request, and no on-time appointment trying to blame me, the client? Hell no. Plenty other businesses. Oh, and, to boot, Chris I found out, is the owner. Nice... Update: to the owner Roberta's ugly response?, I say tell the truth. Trying to reach me for a confirmation 45 minutes before the appointment as the only time you try to confirm and expecting an immediate response? Why not just assume it IS a go at that point since the tech should be on his way by then. And Roberta saying in response that tech was going to only be 15 minutes late? Not true. Chris said he was going to be 1.5 hours late. Instead if 3pm he was going to be closer to 4:30. So the call for confirmation wasn't even to confirm, just to say he would be late, very late after first admonishing me for not being available for a very late confirmation request 45 minutes before scheduled appointment. Why, oh why would they begin to presume that a day-of confirmation 45 minutes before appointment being answered within a half hour AND before appointment time is unacceptable to them?
