The front serves as a small cafe, and the backroom is the performance room. It's a small, intimate venue, and we watched Oakland-based soul & jazz singer Lilan Kane perform. It was a very enjoyable performance, and the acoustics were lovely. The staff were also very friendly and accommodating. A sweet, romantic spot to enjoy an evening out. Thanks Sound Room!

The calamari was definitely my favorite! Loved how lightly fried it was, and the jalapeño sauce was such a nice touch. The sushi rolls were on the smaller side and felt a bit too rice-heavy with not enough filling. After dinner, we headed into the music venue side of Yoshi's to see The Best Intentions and they were incredible! One thing to note: seating is assigned by the venue and can feel pretty tight since tables are often shared.

One half of the venue is an amazing restaurant while the other is to witness incredible music. Arrived on time for my 7:30pm reservation and was seated right away. Super pro tip - get a reservation! This place was HAPPENIN' Ya hear me?! There were tons of folks eating, drinking, celebrating, and having an overall good time. The food was absolutely incredible: Nigiri - Had a combo of Hamachi, Salmon, and salmon belly. Easily some of the best fish i've had in a while. So fresh and the salmon was fatty, buttery, and delicious. Caesar Salad - This was a miso caesar with a mix of kale and, romaine, parm, and wonton chips on top. YUMMY. Miso Cod - Out of this world! So good! And went perfectly with everything else I had that day. And the music was amazing! After our meal, we headed to the music venue portion of Yoshi's. It's a great concert venue,…read morewith beautiful Indian-inspired architecture, harkening back to the days when American theaters were inspired by not-politically-correct ornamentations of foreign cultures in their escapist surroundings. Over the years, I've been here to see a variety of artists perform, including Evanescence, Lindsey Stirling, and most recently AFI. Fox Theater is Bart-accessible and in a safer part of downtown Oakland. If artists I want to see perform live come here, then this venue is a definite yes on my list!

And unlike the SF Mortified event I attended last month where most seats were reserved, this one seemed to offer ample seating first come first served, as well as a lovely outdoor courtyard with even more seating. Sound and lighting were ideal. The guest band, Hot and Dangerous, were hilarious and used lots of unconventional instruments along with catchy and comical lyrics, in between journal readings. They did amazing on stage, even though I missed the house band I saw at the previous show. There were bars on both levels, and just a small line at the downstairs bar before the event started. An hour in, there was no line or waiting at all. I tried one of their cocktail specials, the new parish punch, and absolutely loved it, strong and fruity with just a hint of spice, seems like they make good drinks here. Also, we arrived when the doors opened, an hour before showtime, and there was plenty of parking available just a block away.

This is a really lovely, historic old theatre. I've been here a handful of times. Most recently, I…read morecame for a comedy show. The theatre is ornate! Look up at the ceiling, and around at the walls. Head up the curving staircase! Snap a photo of the marquee and the tall neon sign. The building is opulent! It's very close to BART, so it makes transportation to the venue a breeze. Avoid driving or you're likely to get your car broken into like I did when I came to a Yelp Elite Event nearby. :( Also, take note, they have a very strict no outside food or drinks policy. I had a very tiny purse, and I had a small package of crackers from Colombia my friend had just gifted me, and the staff took them off me! I also had a chomp stick and a package of roasted chestnuts. (I hadn't had dinner and was worried we wouldn't have time to eat before the show, so I packed a couple of tiny snacks in my bag). The door person was super nice and she said she'd hold them for me until after the show. Unfortunately, after the show, she went to get them from the locked ticket booth and someone took them! So a fellow staff member snatched my snacks. That's pretty messed up. I mean, I should have looked up the policy before I attended, but it's also pretty messed up that a staff member took my stuff after they were being held for me. The staff member said she had it with her own stuff; she was very surprised that they went missing as well. Other than the snack snafu, the seats were very comfortable and the pitch between the seats is generous! There was so much leg room! Plus, I didn't feel cramped at the shoulders. This is such a rarity for a theater and deserves mentioning! There are bathrooms both upstairs and downstairs. Overall, this is a great venue with a convenient BART accessible location! The staff is friendly; parking is convenient next door in the garage; plenty of restaurants nearby. There were also a few snack items and drinks available for sale. I was bummed that perhaps customer service and management aren't completely in synch with their own policies. I had written and asked if photography would be allowed since this was a Hawaiian show. I wanted to bring in one camera with an attached lens, no flash to take photos for personal use only. I was told that the policy was no photography was allowed. On the night of the show, the last announcement before the show started, was that non-flash photography was welcome. Oh well.

After I got there and made my way up to the bar, I noticed that one of the other patrons had a drink menu with prices. So I asked to borrow it thinking that it was his own. It turns out that the bar had exactly 2 drink menus that everyone needed to share. Later, when the other guests ran off to the show (Jason Isbell) I grabbed a copy and took these photos. I was tempted by the idea of a lounge to hang out in while…read morewe waited for the concert to start, access to additional bathrooms and a potentially less crowded, separate bar and seating. Expected to feel like we'd paid too much, but actually really enjoyed not waiting in a long line, getting a snack (pizza on this night), grabbing a few drinks and having comfy sofas to lounge on before going to find our seats. We also had access to a roped off area near the large bar just at the back of the general admission floor area, which was raised and where we had a clear view to the stage. We were also treated very well as we went back and forth from the lounge room to our seats, to the viewing area, etc. I'd do it again in a second. The only thing is I wish they'd announce what the snacks were going to be ahead of time. I feel like that could be easy to do and would be in line with their already good service. The concert was being shown in the Telegraph Room, too.
