Beef chow fun

Let me preface this by saying i'm Thai and my wife is Chinese. We're both born and raised NYer's. ABC Seafood is hands down our favorite Chinese style restaurant in Tampa Bay. It is the closest thing we have found to real NYC style Chinese food that is not the usual Americanized takeout. The place has an old school feel and the venue is big enough for parties or large groups, which makes it great for any occasion. The food is consistently good and the flavors are on point. If you eat here often, you get to know the staff and they get to know you and your go to orders too. You will usually see plenty of Asian folks eating here because we know what we like and we know what is good. Prices are fair for what you get and for the portion size. Inflation is just a pain these days. Overall, I recommend ABC Seafood over any other spot in St Pete.

ABC has since relocated to 66th Street, and I haven't been yet, but I'm praying that the food is consistent in flavor. We went a couple months before they moved and it's always good. This time, we ordered a couple of different things and were not disappointed. We got the fried quail, salted fish fried rice, oysters, and mapo tofu. Everything was packed with flavor (yes, even the mapo tofu) and so dang delicious. We'll always support ABC, and will check back when we try the new location!

I can't believe I've never left a review for this place. Best Chinese food in St Pete. We've been coming here for years, since they were at their old location. This new location has a lot more room for seating. We always get the honey walnut shrimp and the eggplant with seasonal vegetables. Everything else has always been good too. Skip the cheap Chinese takeout places and come here for some authentic, tasty dishes.

Steamed oysters with garlic sauce

We came from Chicago to escape the cold winter. We have been looking for a good Chinese restaurant and so glad found this one on Yelp. The food is very authentic Cantonese food and is comparable to what we have in Chicago Chinatown. We had seafood and fish maw soup, steamed oysters with garlic sauce, and dungeon crab with ginger and scallions. If you are looking for authentic and unamericanized Chinese food, this is your place. The service is attentive and staff is very friendly.

Pros: soups. Seafood hot and sour soup was good. The wonton soup was really good. It is misleading, though, because on the website the Hong Kong style wonton soup shows it comes with egg noodles in the picture. It doesn't and i was disappointed. However, the broth is super flavorful. As for the entrees, I ordered beef chow fun and general Tso's chicken. The beef chow fun was nothing but an oily mess and the general tso's chicken was probably the worst I've ever had. Do not get it. Look at the picture. It doesn't even look like general tso's. It was more like a soggy sweet and sour/mae ploy sauce. Stick to the soups and seafood dishes.

ABC is now at the old Lucky Star's location. They open late which is great for family that works the later hours. We stopped by on our vacation and we enjoyed everything. My favorite is the seafood tofu dry pot. It's very cantonese like. All the dishes are flavorful and don't need any extra soy sauce. Beef chow fun has that smokey wok flavor that we all love. The sizzling beef is also unique and we haven't had anything like it before, definitely a must try. And the fried rice is very good because they do not stick together that's how you differentiate good and bad fried rice. The service is also really good. I enjoyed this family style dinner and glad we were able to find one while traveling.

Have heard great things about ABC seafood from Tampa folks. I believe this is their new location as the old location is permanently closed. Plenty of parking and seating . Note that all these dishes are huge in portion , by the time we finished more than half the portion was left. We had the clay pot braised short ribs 4/5 meat was tender but a bit on the dry side . Beef chow fun 4/5 had a nice grilled flavor yet not too oily there was not much beef to be found however . Shrimp with walnut 5/5 is my go to dish at Chinese restaurants and this one did not disappoint. Pan fried dumplings 3/5 outside was crispy but lacking flavor and filling I think with a better dipping sauce it would have been better. Clams with black bean sauce 4/5 surprisingly a huge portion for medium size, the clams were very plump not small. Chrysanthemum tea pot was delightful and flavorful in itself , didn't need to add much sugar . Overall service was excellent the food came out all within 10 minutes of ordering and we did not have to touch any plates they took care of all the to go boxing and bagging. Restaurant itself is a bit outdated but there was plenty of room for seating for small and large parties. It was nice to try a more authentic Chinese restaurant .

ABC Seafood Restaurant

This Saint Petersburg, FL restaurant has been around in the area longer than my 23 years here. And for good reason. The location, service and especially food are all above par. The menu is varied and expansive. The prices reasonable. The meals are fresh tasting. I can't say enough good things. Now the only slight debit is that the area is an open room, so it's a social/family style restaurant rather than an intimate nook type place. The decorations are appropriately Asian. The staff has always been efficient and cheerful.

Great green tea

2 stars out of 5. Still on the search for great, authentic Chinese food. We tried ABC Seafood (66th st) and it was very disappointing. The Crab Rangoons had had no Krab in them. The Seafoid Fried Rice was more like steamed white rice, very bland and tasteless. And, my Seafood Chow Fun had very little seafood in it, only 1 piece of squid. The real disappointment was the Salt & Pepper Calamari which had a stale texture as though it was cooked hours ago. These squid have fantastic reviews and they sucked! The green tea was the best part, loose leaf tea, nice and hot. The service was great, very friendly and attentive.

The restaurant is located behind the German club on 66th Street, a second business in the German club parking lot! Apparently, the family that has his place is from Maine and they got a lot of success brewing beer. That's success led them to start the restaurant serving seafood from a family business in Maine. We started off with a bowl of New England clam chowder and a dozen oysters. To what are whistles we got a glass of their tap Chardonnay and a beer. My wife's Chardonnay was ridiculously good! But nothing could beat those oysters - sweet with a little bit of brine, and very fresh. For dinner we got a lobster roll - they come hot or cold, with the hot coming with melted butter. We also got the fried haddock roll.... Wow! Both were fantastic! I know we overdid it with dinner.... We even got an order of the whole belly clams. I didn't think anyone in Florida served those down here! Absolutely ridiculous . In short, we had fantastic dinner and terrific beverages. I really recommend you at least try to find the place - we almost didn't go in because of its awkward location and the fact that no cars were outside. We saw the place was open and decided to have a appetizer because the Yelp review was so strong, and I'm glad we did! I told the two people there they should park their cars nearby so patrons would see them..... Anyway, I'm going back again, but this time I'm bringing friends!

I was sad they didnt have chowder so next time I'll try that and the maine lobster roll. Oysters are from Maine and they were spot on. They do an oyster special on Thursdays and Ill be back for that! Great selection of beers - they brew in house and have some other local ones. They also do flights which is great. Caylen was our server and he was great and knowledgeable. There's also ton of parking in the back. If you like good beers and maine style seafood this spot is for you!

The Chef Special Combo I chose was 1/2 lb shrimp + mussels + sausage, all drenched in their signature hot sauce (the menu warns that their sauces are hotter than other establishments so I did not go with very hot like I usually would and I'm glad that I did). The combo also included miniature potatoes and 2 pieces of corn on the cob. I could not finish it. My friend ordered the scallops dinner in a mild sauce and he was very pleased. We also split an appetizer of calamari which was delicately breaded and fried just right (not rubbery). Their signature drinks were a Little pricey but they were tasty and had a kick to them. Our server was on the ball and did a fine job of taking care of us without interfering with our conversation or enjoyment of the meal. They have a pretty extensive menu of options, but our go to is the fried grouper sandwich with American cheese and no lettuce or tomato. Our other go to is the lobster roll. Now this go around we did notice the lobster was more shredded than it was chunks which is what we've seen previously so that was a bit of a change, but overall, it was still good. We've had the onion rings before but this go round we decided to share a side of french fries and we did ask for them crispy. They were perfect. Be prepared to wait though as this location is super small and if you come during a busy season or around that lunchtime period you're most likely going to have to wait. This is not a great location for large groups. If you have more than five people in your group this is probably not the best location for you as they cannot seat more than one large group at a time. But, one thing we did notice is that you can walk up and order to go. That's a great option to have and something we may take advantage of in the future.

When the host came out, she stated that she needed to "clear the area." While we understand the need to manage space, the request was directed at us and was delivered in an unpleasant, dismissive tone. She then said there would be about a 25-minute wait and that there were parties ahead of us, which we understood and accepted. However, we were later told that despite being on the list, we would not be seated because there was "no way to contact us" when our turn came and that we needed to remain in one specific spot. Given that no instructions or staff were present when we arrived, this explanation was confusing and felt inconsistent. The interaction gave the clear impression that we were not welcome to wait or dine there, so we chose to leave. Dining out should feel respectful and inclusive, and unfortunately, that was not our experience here.

From the outside, it doesn't immediately stand out. But once you make your way around back, the setting opens up to a waterfront view along the intracoastal that completely changes the experience. Sunset is the time to be here. Between the colors over the water and the occasional dolphin or manatee sighting, it's a setting that feels far more special than the location suggests. There's usually plenty of parking, though the entrance can be easy to miss if you're not paying attention. Look for the break in the divider when coming off the main road, otherwise you might drive right past it. The atmosphere leans lively but relaxed. They typically have live music in the evenings, which adds just the right amount of energy without overwhelming the space. Seating is flexible with both indoor and outdoor options, though on especially hot days, you'll want to be mindful of where you sit. The Florida sun can be intense, so a shaded table with a fan makes a big difference. Drinks are worth exploring here, especially since they tend to rotate specials. It's always a good idea to ask what's currently featured. The menu is rooted in New Orleans-style Creole cooking, and it shows. There's a wide range of seafood-heavy options, from po'boys and shrimp or scallop pastas to fried baskets, chowder, and fish and chips. The dirty rice and beignets round things out nicely if you're looking to branch beyond seafood. Prices run slightly above average, but the quality backs it up. Portions are solid, flavors are on point, and the overall experience makes it feel worth it. This is the kind of place locals keep in their rotation and bring visitors to when they want to show off something a little different. It's relaxed, scenic, and consistently delivers, which is exactly why it sticks with you after the first visit.

There's plenty of umbrellaed tables and picnic tables. They have a full menu of apps, seafood, and burgers. Their Fried Wahoo is also well-prepared. We got fried, and it was tender and fresh. Both fish came with a heaping serving of hot crispy fries. You could also get either fish blackened, and you could add various veggies as sides. We ordered our food and also picked it up ourselves at the bar. Hookin' can get crowded, especially when they have a live musician, and parking can get pretty tight. It's just off I-275 at 22nd St, in St. Pete Fl east of Gulfport. I got off the bus and walked across the street and into the parking lot. It was fairly busy, and I made my way to the patio area, because outside seating only. There was a kind of tiki bar with a line where you go up and get your own alcoholic beverage any time you want. You can eat at the bar or at any of the picnic tables that you pass on the way to a kind of food truck with a window where you order your food and buy bottles of soda and iced tea from a vat full of ice. I loved the vibes right away. I got in line at the "truck". Then it was my turn to order. Well, whaddaya know, they just ran out of blue crabs! And no soft-shell crabs were available as the water they live in is not warm enough yet. But they did have one of my favorite seafood delicacies, stone crab claws, so I ordered those instead, and asked for the mustard sauce instead of melted butter. I also ordered French fries and cole slaw for my sides. And then I ordered one-half dozen raw oysters, because. I was given a little wire stand with a card inserted into the top with my order number on it, to be placed on my table. Then I sauntered over to the bar and ordered an IPA from the busy, bearded and well-tattooed bartender. If you are wearing shades you will be admonished to remove them before paying, and I saw why, as the display on the... pay thingy has excessive polarization. Next I found a good spot in the shade and sipped my beer and checked the place out. Was there music? I think so, but I can't remember! Just all kinds of folks having a good time. Two preschoolers were busily playing in the sand by the main walkway to the food line, and took up most of the path most of the time, but nobody seemed to mind. If you aren't into playing with little trucks in the sand I think there is also corn hole off in one corner. If you don't know what that is, I dare you to look it up. After not too long some plates of food showed up, and I took some pictures and then got busy. First I tried the fries, because they are best when fresh and hot, but the fries were limp and sad. I just let their little ol' hand-cut selves alone. The oysters were served on the half shell on ice, and came with nice hot grated horseradish and cocktail sauce, plenty of lemon wedges, and saltine crackers. They were excellent! Then I turned my attention to the claws, glorious stone crab claws. I noticed that I was given butter instead of mustard sauce. That didn't stop me. But what did slow me down was the lack of a claw-cracker. The claws were pre-cracked a bit, but not in a way that was helpful to get at the meat. And I need leverage to rip the joints apart as my fingers don't work like they used to, so I asked for, and received quickly, a cracker. Some of the claws were on the small side, and the meat in some of the claws was a bit soft-feeling, but it was all pretty tasty. However, they fell short of my previous experiences elsewhere, including when I cooked some at home a few years ago. The cole slaw was very good. The young guy who brought my food and cracker tool was friendly, and quite funny. The woman who took my order was also nice. The bartender was just to busy to be anything but awesome. So all in all, the food was a bit of a letdown. I will try to go back for the crabs, and I saw hush puppies in a photo, that would be better than the fries.
