Mary was thoughtful, professional, and incredibly efficient while still making each person feel seen and cared for. She provided personalized color season cards that outlined the best colors to wear, along with guidance on jewelry and makeup choices. The cards were clear, practical, and easy to reference, which made the experience both fun and actionable. Our team truly enjoyed their sessions, and many of us walked away feeling more confident and excited about our personal style. I would highly recommend Mary for corporate events or team experiences. But when I met Mary, I just felt at ease. She was so easy to talk to, not judgmental at all (but assertive when necessary to let me know when things needed to be let go) and I felt a great connection with her. I hired Mary because I knew I was in a rut, stuck in my comfort zone with my style which was neither impressive nor flattering. I really needed help to expand my horizons as far as what I could wear that would still be me but also give the outward impression that I wanted to give. I felt my previous style was tired and I was wearing too much of the same thing. Now, I feel amazing! I love all my new clothes and how Mary created new outfits using my existing wardrobe. It all feels cohesive, easy but also sophisticated. I feel super confident in the options I have when getting dressed now, whether it's going into the office or going to a work event, where my style helps me be more outgoing. Truly, the eye Mary has for matching to your color palette and the silhouettes that will be flattering is incredible. Mary is just amazing and provides so much value to anyone she works with. She is incredibly organized from the consultation call to the offboarding, telling you exactly what to expect and then she usually goes above and beyond and does more than what is even promised. I'm just incredibly grateful for the experience and would recommend her to anyone.

She started by walking me through the color theories behind each of the four seasonal palettes, with fabrics grouped by tones and shades. She also presented Powerpoint slides breaking down the colors, makeup, hair, fashion, and accessories styling for each season. She even showed me collages of celebrities for each one, so that I could get a better visualization of real-life examples. I was honestly shocked because I had no idea that each palette came with its own whole styling approach. I've been mixing and matching this entire time! Then came the fabric draping, and WOWW!! She has such a good eye and really pays attention to the little details!! At first, I was only reacting to whether I liked a color, but she explained to me what she was looking for: the tones/shades that brighten my face AND create harmony with my features as a whole. She even analyzed the makeup I already use and looked through photos of my outfits to advise me what to keep, add, or replace. Everything felt so personalized. I had gotten my lip blush done a couple years back, so my lips already have a tint. My seasonal palette lipstick colors were not showing up as the true colors on them. Karen immediately pivoted and found shades within my undertone range that suited me even better. I love that she's so patient as I was learning everything: she broke things down whenever I got confused and even quizzed me so I would be able to recognize the right tones on my own when shopping. After the appointment, she sent me a full recap AND direct links to shop for the specific lipstick shades that matched my lip blush better. She really goes the extra mile for her clients!! You're not just getting a color analysis, you're also getting a personal stylist!!! The biggest thing for me was that I've always thought I was a silver girlie. It turns out silver actually makes me look tired, emphasizes my smile lines and undereyes, and washes me out!! I was a gold girlie all along!! If you want a glow up, Karen is THE person to see!! There's a reason why she gets booked up so fast!! I can't recommend her enough!!

She starts the session doing a mini presentation, which breaks down color theory, the four seasons, and styling guides for each season. The next part is the color analysis and Karen provides a phone mount, so you can record yourself during the process. This is especially supportive if you want to go back to review your season's colors. Then she goes into complementary hair colors, glasses frames, and eyebrow shape! The last part of the session goes over your season and makeup products she recommends. During this process, she sends an Amazon link, which organizes makeup products by season, and additional styling guides. As someone who is wanting to be intentional about what makeup and clothes I purchase, I highly recommend Karen's services ‍

I walked away with so much knowledge about myself and to this day, I am still carrying the personalized swatch booklet she provided me with her notes about your specific color season, your neutral colors, and the colors that make you go "WOW, this is so flattering on me!" I don't go shopping without it. She has changed my perspective about how to dress, wardrobe editing, be in your own skin, embrace change, transform, and so much more. I had requested a color consultation with Amy via Yelp and she was quick to respond and set up my appointment! It was an easy and beautiful experience, also full of fun and laughter! She genuinely gets to know you, your lifestyle, and your goals. She walks you through the different seasonal colors, shows examples of many, and physically drapes you with many fabrics to see for yourself what colors truly complement you. We weren't done there. We went on to makeup! She will teach you how to apply and use makeup colors that is complimentary to you, and create makeup looks together that you can actually wear out. For the price you pay, you get so much value. I'm a Deep Dark Autumn and ever since my visit with her, I've been doing my homework and gradually editing my wardrobe and makeup. (I used to only dress in black and white haha!) I definitely would like to do a styling consultation with her in the future where we go more in-depth about body proportion, fabric textures, and style identity. Amy is a gem. Kristin was fantastic - full of energy and a great personality.; we got along with ease. I never felt pressured to try anything I didn't like and she didn't hesitate to give her thoughts about any color or look she wasn't feeling. No pun intended but it really did feel like I was shopping with a friend. I powered through an exhausting 5 hours (I don't have much shopping endurance) and left with an assortment of new shirts, pants, jeans, and accessories. The experience definitely broadened my perspective and gave me a great foundation to continue with moving forward. I'd recommend The Shopping Friend's services to any guy out there, whether starting from scratch or just fleshing out their wardrobe like myself.

Never having the money to wear any of the seasons designers clothes, I did try and pick up a piece or two on sale at the end of the season. I always thought a great pair of shoes, handbag and the mantra of " hi - low" would get me by. Over the last 2 years I realized I had some great pieces in my closet but had no idea how to put them together or how to think outside of the box. And I didnt know how to find a stylist who would work with a budget, Until I met Barbra.... I purchased Barbra's services off of guilt group on a blind whim. I had never met her, seen her work or had even spoken to her. I knew I needed her though. I NEEDED someone to sift through my clothes and create outfit options for me. I didn't want to be obligated to a stylist who only shops retail because I have 4 NYC private schools to pay for. Not an option particularly in this economy. Barbra has the perfect business paradigm for normal people who want to look great. Her thinking is awesome. Firstly? Everything is about reworking or consigning. She does an intake phone call before you meet her which could go on forever because her energy is much fun. (you hang up feeling like you just talked to your best friend!)then she comes bubbling into your home with a huge suitcase of consigned clothing from either her own clients or from Decades 2 in LA. The hottest and highest end consignment store for all the stylists and their actor clients. Then you get down to work. She is a magician with styling. Things I didn't even know I owned and things that I hadn't worn in years, she made hip, current and edgy. She styled my mothers 45 year old velvet Pucci maxi skirt and it rocked. I could go on and on. I ended up spending two afternoons with B and cld have used two more. I took pics of every outfit with accessories and shoes, bags. I refer to those pics every time I go out. Moreover, people notice. I get so many compliments on how I look and I can feel people tracking me when I go to a restaurant. Barbra has given me new insight onto dressing and how to present myself. She truly has made a huge impact and I thank her all the time. My husband is theist happy! Thanks Babs!!! Plz excuse typos. I'm on my iPhone.

It now became a necessity. I first met Barbra at an event at Beckley's on Melrose. She was part of a group of experts discussing the importance of fashion on image and branding. After I heard her no-nonsense eco-friendly approach to styling (reuse, repurpose, recycle -- THEN buy something new), I knew I wanted to work with her. Of course it didn't hurt that she is also a British Vogue online correspondent and a published author of Closet Control. Any way, she takes her business SERIOUSLY. Prior to her first power session with you, she advises you to get plenty of rest and eat something because it is going to be intense. Wow. This was kinda like the advice I got prior to doing my first Triathalon last year. And then we went for it. Years of clothes and shoes were thrown out, and things were repurposed and reworked to create things I didn't think of putting together. Old faves were retired, but that ultimately made room for new faves. This was some serious therapy as I was sooooo attached to my stuff, even though I hadn't worn things in years. Some stuff still had tags. Anyway, I have a better sense of what woks for my figure. She also strongly suggested that I rethink my attraction to expensive handbags, and invest that money elsewhere in my wardrobe. I still refuse to let go of Marc and Louis and Yves, but I haven't bought anything new. This makes the BF very happy.
