Everything she was doing and why, and every product she used and it's benefits. Although I left with my hair about 4 inches shorter than I would have preferred, my curls are shiny and healthy with the curliest spirals and full of bounce. The salon itself was clean and decorated well. Staff was pleasant. I was offered a water bottle while I sat under the dryer. I will be back based on the location, prices, and staff. But this time I'll be sure to voice better that I want my hair LONG and not short!

During the appointment, the hair dryer was so hot that it burned my daughter's ears. My daughter is extremely shy and tends not to speak up when something hurts or makes her uncomfortable. She didn't say anything while we were there, but after we left, she burst into tears, and that was when I realized her ears had been burned. I did not bring it to the salon's attention because we had already left when I became aware of what had happened. Despite that experience, I decided to give the salon another chance and brought her in to have braids done by the owner. From the moment we arrived, we felt unwelcome. She did not introduce herself, and when she asked what we wanted, her facial expression and attitude immediately made us feel like we were bothering her. We wanted braids that formed into buns, but because of the attitude we received from the jump, I was honestly afraid to even ask for any type of intricate braiding design. I already felt uncomfortable asking for anything beyond something simple. My daughter was in tears throughout the appointment. I asked her what was wrong and specifically informed the stylist that she is tender-headed. I then sat there watching her rip through my daughter's fine, curly hair with a small rat tail comb, pulling through knots rather than gently detangling them. It caused so much breakage. While doing this, she proceeded to tell me that my daughter "didn't have curly hair," all while combing through her curls in a way that seemed to create even more tangles. I was also left standing there for about five minutes before another employee - not the owner - came over and offered me somewhere to sit. The actual braiding took roughly 10 minutes and felt incredibly rushed. There was no attention to detail, and it felt like she was speeding through my daughter's hair because we were a burden and she wanted us out of her chair. After seeing my daughter in tears, you would think she would take a gentler approach. We paid $80 plus a tip for a hairstyle that does not look professionally done and an experience that once again ended with my daughter in tears. What bothers me most isn't even the money. It's that I gave this salon a second chance after what happened during her first visit, only for my daughter to have another upsetting experience. A child should be able to sit in a salon chair and feel comfortable, cared for, and safe.

Second Visit - Went With the Full Zen Therapy This Time and Loved It…read more This was my second visit to Lotus Head Spa in Cranston, and once again, it was an incredible experience. I booked the Zen Head Therapy both times, but during my first visit I asked them to skip the facial portion and just focus on the head and upper body massage. This time, I told them to go with the full standard treatment--and I'm so glad I did. The facial portion wasn't just skincare. It was part of the whole sensory experience--alternating between warm and cool sensations, soft and firm touches, all while wearing a heated eye mask that blocks out everything visually. Being blindfolded in that way made every sensation feel more amplified and immersive. There were moments I felt those relaxing tingles running down my spine and through my legs, all the way to my toes. It's hard to explain, but if you've ever had that total body melt feeling, you'll know exactly what I mean. I left feeling like a noodle--completely relaxed and reset. The staff continues to be warm, welcoming, and attentive, and I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this to anyone looking to completely unwind. Already looking forward to my next visit.

With my company Christmas party fast approaching, I was initially dismayed that my usual place had…read morelost its hairdresser. Lucky for me though, I spied the fantastic reviews for City Salon here on Yelp and called for an appointment. I am glad I did! I left with a great hair cut/style as well as a new "go-to" salon!! Located quite close to East Providence's City Hall, this salon is smack dab in the middle of a main thruway and is very easy to get to. There is plenty of free street parking on Taunton Ave. with additional spots on the side streets in the area. On entering, Cheryl smiled and greeted me by name, while her small dog calmly walked over to say hi. You don't always get a personalized welcome on a first visit... it was a nice touch. After a brief description of what I was looking for, Cheryl understood exactly what I wanted and started in. Cheryl is super nice and very easy to talk to (something that was a relief to me as I am generally quite shy). She is great at what she does and I can't wait until I am in need of her services again. The City Salon has a modern, clean, and spacious interior. I was so focused on getting my hair done that it almost didn't register that there was a nail/pedicure station towards the back. Not sure how much the other services cost... but a wash, cut, and blow dry were a reasonable $35. I wouldn't mind seeing a pamphlet or website (perhaps I overlooked them?) so I can plan ahead for services and price prior to calling for my next appointment. Highly recommended! (...and as a healthcare professional, I think it is fantastic that on this business page it is advertised she will travel in Rhode Island for home bound and nursing home residents!)
