They're cheap, cheerful and won't have you waiting for long. The only problem is, if the weather is dire, you will have to wait outside for your cab - so come prepared with an umbrella! What I like about Abbey is that not only are they a bargain on short trips, but they'll also travel to such far flung destinations as Bristol and Trowbridge! For a 25 minute journey after midnight it'll cost you just under £30 - the most reasonably priced service in Bath. Like all other taxi firms, they will also pick you up from any given spot but if you're in the city centre, you're much better off waiting at the hut and waiting. read more

Certainly arrived at the Royal United Hospitable within the 5 minutes promised; but the driver walked past me, and appeared cross when they came out again and found me waiting. I am 80 years old, use a stick because of severe back pain and here I am leaving a hospital ! ! The back sliding door was opened and then I was abandoned to get in on my own, no check that i had fastened my seat belt and I had to close the door myself because the driver was already in their seat. We then went the longer way around to get to the main road. Upon arrival I paid and was once again left to open the door and get out on my own and close it. Not a word of "are you ok?" or "can you manage?" No feeling of being considered as more than something sitting in the back seat. The vibes I got were not friendly. read more

If you are needing to get from the train station to your B&B up on one of the hills... or you go out for a night on the town and don't want to walk up Bathwick Hill to the YHA =)... Abbey Taxis are the best. They are reliable and cheap! Some friends and I went out and when we were finished, we rang them (I got the phone number off of one of the cabs) and there was one waiting as we came out of the club. I jokingly (ok, I was half serious... ok, I was dead serious) said, "Where's the kebab place?" He said, "You want a kebab?" We all nodded and he stopped at a kebab place (by the way one of the few places I have found pepperoncini... so that alone rates highly in my book) and waited for us to get kebabs and chips. Our trip was around 5 quid (same when I used them to get to my B&B from the train station). The only reason I took a star off was that the driver got a bit lost trying to get to the YHA and I think our trip may have been less than 5 quid had he not gotten lost. Otherwise, the cars are all nice and clean, the drivers are friendly... Was completely let down by these guys this morning. I'm writing this from a bus on the way from Bath to Heathrow. Don't normally like to complain publically, but people need to be warned, my trip could've been a complete nightmare because of these guys. . Yesterday I booked them well in advance to pick me up at 5:40am for delivery to Bus station, told them I was going to airport, operator was like yeah yeah no problem. . 5:40 comes around and no sign of them, I'm thinking ah I'm sure they're on their way, be cool. But I call them anyway, and the guy answers and goes eh yeah we're running a bit late not sure when the cab will get there. I panic, ask them should I wake my flatmate up, get them to drive me there? And operator reluctantly says yeah you probably should.. my flatmate was unconscious, and in no mood to drive anywhere but I got him up, and got him to take me there, good mate that he was. Taxi is my major means of transport from home to the university, and I have been using Abbey for about half a year now. And that was until yesterday. When I booked my usual journey from my home Charlton Court to University of Bath for 9:00, the girl at the call centre made a mistake and booked me in for the reverse journey. Unaware of her mistake, I waited outside in the cold til 9:05 just to get a phone call from the driver who was at the university waiting. We figured out what happened and exchanged apologies, and I thought it was all well-sorted. Yet later that day when I phoned Abbey again for my 10:15 lecture, I was told that I have been banned from their system for 'messing around with taxi driver' - I immediately understood what has happened and tried to explain to the lady that it was a misunderstanding due to a mistake made by her colleague. The lady who picked up told me there was nothing she could do to undo the ban on the system, though she was very nice and did apologize for the problem I had. The next day I tried calling Abbey again thinking that the ban probably expired after a day - and I was wrong. Another woman picked up and told me I was still on their list, and when I attempted to negotiate with her for a solution, she immediately became impatient and aggressive, denying her colleague's mistake. interrupting my explanation, telling me to go phone up another taxi company instead, and then hung up on me. I was shocked by this manner of customer service - as a client who has at least two journeys booked with them on an average day, totaling up to more than 500 in the past few month, it was utterly unexpected to me that I would get insulted like this by my usual taxi company. I did ask the woman over the phone as to how long this ban was going to last - Abbey taxi rank is right outside at the bus stop of the university so I was originally hoping to get back to Abbey after the ban. But not now. Not after experiencing that kind of insult from that unpleasant call centre woman who picked up my second call. A bit of background information for those of you who may be interested. Abbey is effectively a working MONOPOLY in the city - of course there's V-car, but V-car is just a sister company of Abbey owned by the same person. There are private drivers around, but they are way too insignificant in volume to challenge the dominance of Abbey. That second lady who picked up my call was obviously aware of her company's monopolistic position - if there were other competing companies around for me to choose from, she certainly would not tell her customer to go away with kind of arrogant attitude. This is just too classic an example of how a monopolistic firm can bully their customers and get away with it - when customers lose their power of substitution. Absolute nightmare this morning trying to get a taxi from these incompetent people. Had reserved a cab for 11 am to get a ride to the nearby train station for a noon train. fellow arrived 5 minutes late, refused to take us because our luggage wouldn't fit in his boot, said another, larger car would be by soon. Ten minutes later and with no working cell, I asked the host of our rental to call, which she did. A taxi was supposed to be there immediately. It wasn't. More calls and more promises: no taxi. Long story short, we missed our train and had to buy new tickets. We were able to get to the station only because of the kind intervention of a neighbor. Moral: shun Abbey Taxi, which according to what we heard may not be an actual, local firm anyway, but operated from somewhere else ( Eastern Europe? Russia? China?). Contact V-Cars directly or Uber. Called last night to book an early morning taxi for a family member this morning. The conversation with the woman on the other end was the single most miserable interaction with a human being I've ever had. It was amazing how much disgust she put into 'Hello' (it was right from the start - which is how I knew it wasn't me). When the driver turned up he was only marginally better because he didn't speak at all. Call centre: So awful I burst into laughter after ending the call. It was like I'd killed her dog and she'd been forced by court order not to tell me to f%^k off. Driver: Bonus points for managing to convey total disgust with us using only body language. Absolutely rubbish company and service. Called for taxi and asked how long it would be, 10 minutes they said. After 20 minutes waiting called them again and they said another 10 minutes. Waited for a further 20 mins then called them for the third time. They admitted they hadn't actually even sent anyone yet. I went to Bath for Xmas markets. Arr 2nd Dec 2pm ish and left 5th Dec 12.15pm. The taxi from the train station was as miserable as sin. I am disabled, had a walker, small suitcase and 2 small bags with medical equipment in. My friend had a similar suitcase. He wasn't at all keen to help, when he finished loading our luggage went and got in the drivers seat. I was so miffed, it was quite obvious I wasn't able to get in and made him get out to come and open the car door for me and help me get in. He then immediately started to drive off and I didn't have my seat belt on. I asked him to stop and again to help me. The journey to the hotel was thankfully short, not even a glimmer of polite conversation en route, he looked as if he was sucking a lemon. Unloading was better, he had the grace to help me out of the car. Fare was £7.20 I didn't tip. The return journey wasn't much better. As soon as cab arrived the driver took one look at the luggage and said that won't fit in my car and promptly returned to his car and got on the radio to order an estate car. I protested and said it would fit as I knew the car that brought us was much smaller. He argued with me that it wouldn't fit and maintained he knew what would go in his car. He said he wasn't allowed to have any luggage inside it all had to go in the boot. The reception manager came across and told the cab driver that he had booked the taxi and told them about my disability and what luggage we had. He was told they would be able to fit it all in to the car they were sending. At this point I insisted he try. Once his personal grip style bag was removed it all fitted in with room to spare, what a surprise. Again I had to ask for the driver to open my door. This guy was more personable than the other but still sadly lacking in basic customer service skills and courtesy. The fare was £5. Why was there A £2.20 difference. Why be a taxi driver if you don't want to load luggage, open door for passengers, engage in conversation and just generally be courteous and helpful. I DEFINITELY WOULD NOT RECOMMEND THIS COMPANY I was treated with total disrespect. read more

Probably the most reliable of all Bath's taxi services, I used to ring these guys all the time when I was organising taxis to weddings and other things for guests at a local hotel I worked at. They were always prompt and very courteous on the phone - a rarity for taxi firms nowadays, let's be honest. I've used this company a few times when too drunk to walk back home, or too drunk to care about paying for a taxi, I guess, and I've never been let down. What's more, I've carted a guitar amplifier and some heavy duty PA speakers with this company before and the driver didn't bat an eyelid or ask for more cash. Bonus. read more

This taxi company doesn't even deserve '1 Star' . I booked 2 Taxis to pick us up at 1am from Lansdown Race Course 4 WEEKS ago, after our Christmas party. We called the Abbey Taxis continually to ask where our taxi was, it just rang out but after many attempts I got through, and was told someone is on their way, but no one is in the area at the moment so can't get you. I said we booked taxis for a reason, it's not our problem if no one is in the area, when you book a taxi you expect it to be there. I said supposing I had a flight to catch and you turn up 30 minutes late. Totally unacceptable. One taxi finally picked me up at 1:30am after us continually calling the company to ask where the taxi is, as it was around 2 Degrees, windy with no shelter and everyone was freezing. The phone was not picked up. I got in the taxi that arrived at 1:30 and my colleagues waited for the next one. I then found out that they continued to call Abbey Taxis to find out where the other taxi was, they were shouted down the phone to, sworn at and said you are not having a taxi now. Overall, this ruined our night, and I will make sure I pass on their shocking service to family and friends, so that they never have to experience this diabolical taxi company. Abbey Taxis used to be a reliable company and I've used them for a couple of years. But recently, they've consistently failed on multiple occasions - cars late or not turning up at all, never any contact to warn you of lateness from office or driver and no interest in making the service better. Fine if you can wait until they find a car to turn up, but I would cannot recommend them if you need a car to get to you on time. read more

Bad service. Twice waited half an hour for a cab only to be told "the automated service cancelled your booking"!! Get sorted Abbey.

Unfortunately, service has deteriorated since they brought in an automated booking service a few months ago. Taxis can arrive quarter of an hour early, half an hour late or not at all. Not to be recommended until they sort out the booking system. They used to be very good but not now. read more

I have just registered a formal complaint about this taxi service. I have just arrived home after calling a taxi in Bath. I had to call one because my friend had hurt her ankle and could no longer walk, so we were stuck where we were. We were in the centre of town in Bath, only 20 metres away from Queens Square. The first person we spoke to could not understand us so passed us to his supervisor. We then spoke with a woman, who regretfully did not tell us her name. I explained to her our location, giving the name of Queens Square House which we were adjacent to. She did not know where this was so I explained our location further, giving street names. She suggested we walk to a hotel to be picked up which was about 5 mins away, which was not possible with my injured friend. She then told us that if we did not have a postcode she can't help us and to call back when we had a post code, then she hung up on us. We then managed to move only a few metres down the road and saw another house, being 20 Queens Square Place. I tried to call back the same number and no one took my call. We then used my friends phone which was answered and gave the name of 20 Queens Square Place which we were then picked up by a lovely taxi driver who I explained the situation to and he was very apologetic and said they had a lot of problems recently with rude members of staff who were very unhelpful. He said he could not convey our complaint back to the firm, hence why I am sending this message. This is unacceptable service from such a well established taxi firm. To be hung up on and refused service simply because we could not provide a postcode, despite providing a clear description of our location. We were not drunk people hassling the firm late on a saturday night, but people in distress with an injury before 11pm on a thursday. I will not be using this firm again, and making it very clear to anyone that I speak to of this rude and unacceptable behaviour. read more

This taxi company was terrible. The worst I have ever deal. DO NOT USE!!! On ringing they first said they wouldn't come to a postal code of BA2. On retrying and quouting the post code they said it was fine and they would be here in 20 mins. Rang back 40 mins later and I quoted my name they hang up. Fourth time I rang they said they where not sending a taxi and I was left taxiless 40 mins after making initial phone call. read more

Never again! I booked a taxi in advance as I had to get to the bus station at 4 in the morning. My taxi didn't arrive so I called Abbey Taxi again and they promised it is on its way. After 10 minutes the taxi was still not there and I had to run to the bus station in the middle of the night to make it. Vey disappointed with the service, you clearly can't rely on them. If I would't have been able to run to the bus station I would have missed my bus and eventually my plane. read more

Abbey's Taxis are rip off merchants, we ordered 3 taxis with them for new years day (1am). After this experience I couldn't even give 1 star as they charged £104 from Bath to Mangotsfield.
