Review based on phone call with Carlos Hernandez. I was looking for an upholsterer near me and AAA Upholstery came up first on my Yelp. I called and Carlos answered. He gave me the unfortunate news that Margie had passed away in September and the property has been sold. He plans to finish what jobs he can and is in the process of calling current customers to pick up any work he isn't able to finish. He will pack up his stuff and continue upholstering from his home residence in Inglewood, off of Century Blvd. So, if you are an old customer of AAA Upholstery, do give them a call before the end of the year if you want to continue having him do your work. I could tell from talking to Carlos that he is experienced, highly confident, speaks kindly and honestly. I will likely take my job to him in his new location in the new year. read more

We picked up our two swivel/rocker/recliners this afternoon and both chairs came out so nice and even surprised us with foot rest covers just like the arms and headrest. Marge it great! She's a straight shooter and stands by her work. Her business has been in the same location for 40-years and she works primarily on referrals. I took in a dining chair that needed minor repair. It was done at a reasonable price and time. We took my grandmother's old mahogany chair in to be reupholstered after having it stripped and restained. We were a little put off by the disaster surrounding Marge's desk but after hearing such good things from others we thought we would go ahead and give her our business. At some point she lost our paperwork (no surprise given the lack of organization) and it took nearly 8 months to get our chair back. We called multiple times inquiring about our chair and she said "We weren't squawking loud enough," or "someone else must have been squawking louder." That to me is terrible business and no excuse. Jobs should be completed in the order they are received. In the end, our chair turned out beautiful, but we would have gone elsewhere if we had known what a hassle it would be (not to mention the length at which it took to do one chair). I would not recommend AAA Upholstery, unless, of course, you aren't in any sort of rush to get your furniture back. read more

I had read several reviews on Yelp before selecting AAA Upholstery. Carlos was great in helping us with the estimate and detailing what needed to be done to repair our chaise lounge. He estimated 2 weeks, but when I called to follow up one week later Margie said it was ready! Even though they are not heavy on paperwork, Margie knew exactly what my wife and I had bought in with just the mention of my name. Yes, the place is cluttered with stuff everywhere, but Margie seems to know where everything is in her 'controlled chaos.' They did a terrific job on the repair and I dodged a bullet with my wife who wanted a new one (did I mention I dodged an approx. $1,200.00 bullet??). Thanks Margie!! read more

The table and chairs are about 40 years old and the updated fabric really made the set look amazing in our dining room. I called to ask for an estimate on an ottoman that I wanted reupholstered. A woman answered (did not get her name ).She was very rude over the phone. I told her I would like an estimate and she told me "if you're just going to clean your ottoman with chemicals again why would you want to get it reupholstered?" I told her "I bought it used, it was peeling when I bought it" then she said "okay well what do you want?" And I said again "I would like an estimate" and she went on and on about how people just bring stuff in there to get fixed and how it could have been prevented .... I finally realized she didn't want my service and I hung up. I will not be doing business with this place,and I defiantly will not be recommending it to anyone because of the horrible rude and judgmental service I got from this woman over the phone. read more

I just had my scruffy dining room chairs reupholstered at AAA Upholstery and they turned out really, really well. I am so glad I read previous Yelp reviews that indicated that you need to show up in person to start your project. Very good advice! The store is a jumble of odds and ends but don't be put off. Look for Marge, the owner, after 11:00 am. She doesn't do mornings and I don't blame her! I got to search through remnants because my job wasn't too big. I found a fabric I liked and in ten days my chairs were a new creation! I talked with Carlos on a number of occasions and found him really helpful and friendly. If you are a type A personality you won't do well here. But if you can go with the flow, you'll do well at this Torrance business. I had a couple of sofa cushions that were getting just mushy, though the rest of the couch seemed okay. Took them here, had them re-packed, and was so delighted with the price and results that I went RIGHT back with two chairs and had them done as well. Fine, tight craftsmanship, a marvelous old broad who runs the place, and everything was ready when they said it would be (how rare is THAT?). Took a cushion for a repair after some of the stitching came loose. I left it for a week, but when I called on the morning of the pick-up day, the guy I spoke with said it wasn't being worked on and to call back after lunch when Marge gets in. WTF? I didn't think it would take that long, but if he wasn't even going to start until she gave him the go-ahead, it probably wasn't going to be ready until the end of the day. I tried to not get pissed off because it was going to ruin my plans for the afternoon if I had to wait around til then. Fortunately, when Marge finally did call me after lunch, they had already fixed it. *phew!* The couch looks great... but next time, don't scare me like that! read more

Marge is wonderful, she is very knowledgable of recovering your old pieces that you love. We had two pieces that were over 20+ years and loved. She totally reconfigured them and even used some of the old leather so I could keep an ottoman that went with a chair that wasn't being recovered. Price was great and the final product came out beautiful. Love working with her and Carlos. I would definitely use AAA Upholstery again. read more

Reupholstered 40 plus year old swivel rockers. A wonderful job was done. Marge is the only upholsterer I feel comfortable dealing with. The workmanship is amazing. I considered buying a new sofa to replace a leather sofa I purchased 12 years ago. But, the sofa is in such good condition, I didn't think I would find the same quality with what's in the stores. So, I took the cushions in to AAA. They are such nice people and they did the work in one day. I am so happy with the results, what a difference! They don't accept credit, so be prepared to pay in cash or write a check. I highly recommend AAA! read more

Margie is great, we brought a chair in that had a seam busted, and they were very kind and fixed the seam within the day. My one recommendation would be that you have to go in person. Trying to discuss the particulars of pricing, etc. over the phone can be a bit cumbersome, so just go in and bring your furniture with you. read more

The owner (Marge) made a lot of suggestions about fabric and was quite upfront about the various costs and and advantages/disadvantages of the different fabric choices. AAA Upholstery located in Torrance is the best place if you'd like your furniture to be upholstered nicely and neatly. My friend had a couch that was rather darty and beaten with duct tapes here and there as a temporary reinforcement. She and I then visited AAA after reading the reviews on Yelp and talked to Merge if they could upholster the couch, to which she said YES with confidence. There are thousands of sample materials to choose from and Merge there was helpful and patient to us. After a month or so ... The couch took our breath away!! At first sight we couldn't believe the couch waiting for us was the same one my friend used to have. It looked as if it was a gentleman wearing an expensive tuxedo with a polished cane in his hand walking on a red carpet. It really transformed from a homeless to a noble man!! In fact my friend named it Monsieur. Thank you, Merge and people working there. You guys are awesome and have done a beautiful work.
