They sent me to customer service, which transferred me twice, no joy, and meanwhile the last person told me the manager at the Fair Oaks location had canceled my reservation. He had told me he was going to call when a car became available. This process took about 2 extremely frustrating hours. I am booking with Enterprise. Stay away from Avis; they are awful. On the other hand, the Enterprise on Nutley Street in Fairfax, VA, completely rocks and found me a vehicle I could pick up immediately. Moral of the story: Avoid Avis. Embrace Enterprise. Edit: Looking at the ton of 1 star reviews and just a handful of 2 and 3s, I'm wondering if the math here is wonky, as it shows up as 2-plus stars. Weird.

They try to switch you to other cars, either a lower priced car without lowering your price you reserved, or a more expensive car, and they'll charge you the increase. Worse yet, they may not even have a car available at all and you're stuck with nothing. They don't care either, it's pretty obvious how they treat you. The local office referred me to talk to the company's customer service and they were horrible as well. There are better rental car companies, I've had a much better experience at Enterprise rental car. Avis/Budget company is not customer service oriented. Don't be fooled by their lower price when you shop on Expedia or elsewhere. Bait and switch at it's worse. Who owns this company now? It can't be the same. They are trash.

The lady at Budget who helped us said okay but never explained that it would be a $79.44 additional charge. The mini van's front end was out of alignment so there was a lot of play on the wheel, so I was afraid to let my daughter drive the mini van plus the left back tire kept losing air and I had to keep putting more air in it. So my daughter never drove it due to the condition of the mini van, which I told the Budget employee about when I returned the car. When I called to protest the additional charge from Budget I saw on my credit card, I called to have it credited back to my Visa. But Budget denied crediting me back the $79.44. I have always used Budget but unless they do the right thing, I won't ever again.

Our time in Galway was spent on tour with Caddie Tours. The specific tour was Sean Fleming - Best of the West (Galway) Tour. My wife and I know Sean from the Auld Shebeen Irish Pub in Old Town Fairfax and make sure we have reservations any time Sean shows up. In a nutshell, Caddie Tours, under Niall Leogue's watchful eye, was excellent and thoroughly entertaining. Sean alone would have been enough, but Niall was the cherry on top. Engaging, witty, and charismatic, Sean and Niall provided everyone on tour memorable experiences. The tour included visits to "The Quiet Man" village (where I not only walked in John Wayne's steps, I wore the clothing and acted out a few of the scenes (thanks, Niall)), Aran Islands (wonderful scenery and small village shops), and a Story Telling evening in the back of a pub in Galway called The Office (Brian Nolan, The Story Teller, was incredible!) to name a few. Intertwined with the visits was singing by Sean Fleming who literally had his acoustic guitar with him EVERYWHERE we went. He sang on the bus, in a church, in a few pubs, and the hotel bar! All in all, I highly recommend using Caddie Tours as part of your visit to Ireland. Splitting our time between doing our own thing and using a touring group was excellent as we were able to enjoy having the freedom to do whatever we wanted while also enjoying a planned, guided event.
