I've bought tires and wheels from Hogan in Beverly for over 30 years. Today I went in for a simple…read morewheel/tire swap (winter to summer), something Hogan has done for me on my cars for years. For the first time ever, 3 of the staff inspected my summer tires and claimed they were dangerous with early 'dry rot' detected and refused to swap the tires, suggesting I needed 4 new ones. The date code was Feb-16, making the tires 8 years old. They claimed that DOT law prohibited them from swapping them. I can find no proof of that online, only 'suggestions'. They have maybe 8K on them and are in excellent condition, with no detectable deterioration and min 3/4 tread depth left. I am a car guy and keep my vehicles in top shape. I stopped using Direct Tire in the '80s when I witnessed multiple 'up-selling' scenarios while waiting for tire service - 'did you know your brakes are dangerous?' 'Let me show you why you need new shocks', etc. I suspect that Hogan staff is now incentivized to do the same - there's a new crew there. I'm never going back. Good luck trading on ignorance and fear, guys.

He said that would be perfectly fine. They completed the brakes and also did an oil change at my request. It was done in roughly 2 hours. I have had my car back for a few months with no issues. There was no additional fee's and I paid exactly what I was told. I would hate for this place to get a bad rap because little Miss "I can't do Math" and I like to write books on Yelp has a bone to pick. We have had all of our service on the six cars that we've owned in that time done by Unique. We are people that hold onto our cars until they're nearly dead, so having an auto care professional that will be cognizant of that and honest about when the investment into an older car may not be wise is important. Two of our Toyotas made it to 250,000 with Unique's maintenance and repair. Mike and his crew have always been very reasonable in price. Routine maintenance there vs. the dealership is not even comparable. We gave up on servicing our new cars at the dealerships early on when we realized that they overcharge significantly. The Unique crew goes out of their way to keep repair costs low and will find good used parts as an alternative to new parts when possible and with our approval. Mike will always get me in at a moment's notice when there's a problem. I've even called him from out of state to ask about car issues. They've driven me home when I didn't have a ride. They've let me borrow a car while they were repairing mine. They've stayed late for us. On the few occasions that the repair did not seem to completely fix the problem, they've brought it right back and completed it either at no charge or for just the price of parts. There are some jobs they don't do like alignments and have even taken our cars to Firestone for an alignment if they were doing related services. They do great with hybrids too; our two new Prius's have had all their service here. I have always felt that auto repair places could take advantage of customers with no experience in auto repair. But I have always felt that Mike is completely honest and invested in completing the job perfectly and at as low a cost as possible. I would recommend this place without hesitation. I feel fortunate that I live in the same town, but I truly feel that their service is worth driving for!

After reading all the negative reviews, I wasn't sure if I should come here or not but it was a 2 minute drive down the street from my place. Walked in on a Tuesday morning at 730 and it was pretty busy, about 3-4 people were sitting in the waiting area. I told them that I needed 4 new tires to be mounted only. Took my keys and I sat there waited in the waiting area. They took my car in after waiting for about 10 mins. Got all 4 tires mounted and balanced. Total time that took them to finished was probably 30mins or so. Customer service was great. Friendly and outgoing staffs. Didn't try to up sell me anything as it was mention in the previous reviews. Overall experience, I will come back for future business.

Firestone Danvers Review…read more Original Date of Service: April 2023 for new breaks 2nd Date of Service: November 02, 2023 Service Requested: Inspection of front right wheel after hitting pothole, rear brakes screech when in reverse, vehicle shaking when travelling 60mph and when breaking. Findings and suggested repairs: - Screeching cause: Rear brake pads and rotors were worn down badly. They were replaced under warranty. Notice: They were new as of April 2023. - Vibration cause: Front calipers were "sheared", the brake pads and rotors were severely worn needing replacement, realignment needed. Notice: All breaks and rotors were replaced in April 2023 at this same location. November 3rd the manager (Gordy) called to confirm findings and quoted $638 to fix the front wheels He advised the calipers aren't covered under warranty because they weren't replaced in April. The rear pads and rotors were replaced under warranty from April 2023. I asked how both calipers were "sheared" and to describe what he meant but Gordy couldn't provide an answer, he said he had no idea how they were "sheared" and the calipers were in such bad shape they need to be replaced "immediately" for our safety. We agreed to wait on the repairs until I call back. November 4th, I called Gordy to let him know the cost of the front wheels will be covered by my insurance. He immediately stated "Well then, we also have to replace both front control arms" which were never discussed before, making the final cost $3k+. The Second Opinion: Location: Smaller local repair shop in Salem. (Not a national chain) Estimate requested for: Front / rear brakes along with all components for possible replacement if needed, the vibration and the screeching of the back wheels. The results: Vehicle's brakes passed inspection. - Front brakes, calipers, rotors, and control arms were found to be in good condition considering the age of the vehicle. The brakes were estimated at 6 - 8 months old and had good life left. - The rear brakes were also 6 - 8 months old and still had plenty of life left too. After his inspection and the owner of the shop took the time to show me physically each piece and what it would look like if it were at the end of its life and how absurd Gordy's quote was for services not needed. The Insurance Adjustor's findings: November 4th my insurance claims adjustor called to discuss what the Damage Adjustor found: - No damage to the control arms - No damage to front wheel calipers - Rotors and pads did not need to be replaced Ultimately, the insurance company denied the claim siting the lack of damage. After hearing this I shared my finding with the adjustor. My adjustor was shocked that Firestone tried to make money off of this situation. Although there are no legal actions to take, I can only warn those reading this to use caution when considering bringing your vehicle to any Firestone. Summary: After my experience at Firestone with Gordy, Sean and Mike I requested to speak with the District Manager. Gordy told me he can only take my information and pass it on to him. He assured me that the DM would reach out within two business days which never happened. Could it be that the Firestone in Danvers is following the instructions of their senior management to take advantage of their customers and find ways to make money??
