We had the same experience with our Pomeranian.We listened to her advice. She told us to have his fur cut short. Now my dog after one year has no fur. Her attitude was very rude . We tried to call her but she hanged up. If she is professional and have a 35 years experience at least she must know that she shouldn't cut baby Pomeranian's fur. read more

Beware of bad advice from this groomer, along with her overreactive attitude. I brought my Pomeranian puppy who had a very robust coat. The staff was so overwhelmed with work that day they canceled my appointment when I arrived, and told me to have her fur cut short. I followed her instructions and now my dog after two years has no fur. Long story short, you're not supposed to cut Pomeranians's hair when their puppies or it could cause them to lose their undercoat. Now I have a hairless dog that I paid $5000 for I don't recommend this groomer for her bad advice and stressful environment. read more

Horrible customer service from the owner. They say they do walk-in nail trims - they've told me that in person and over the phone. Actually stressed that I DID NOT need an appointment for a nail trim when I tried to make one previously. I tried to call before stopping by today, but they didn't answer their phone, so I packed up and headed over for their "walk-in nail trim service." It's a small place, yet it took a while for the owner to even look at me. I asked if we could do a nail trim, and she sighed and said "noooooo." Nothing else. Just stared at me awkwardly. Um. Ok. It was an hour and a half before they closed. There were no dogs waiting, one dog nearly done on the table, and no one in line. The tech was free at the moment and very friendly. She looked over and saw our small dog and offered to do the nail trim. It takes less than 10 minutes. The owner said no, that she needed to leave. I said, "Ok, no problem. Do you have availability tomorrow." The owner sighed and said, "I don't know." Um. This is your business. How do you not know? Do you not have a schedule? Again the tech reminded her of the first appointment of the day. The owner then said we should go to the vet next door?! I tried to play along and stepped outside to call the vet. They were very kind and accommodating but are obviously dealing with more pressing issues than a nail trim. She actually suggested a groomer so we could get in sooner. I shared what had just transpired at AAA, and the vet shared my complete shock! We had a good laugh over the complete lack of professionalism from AAA, and both agreed to never recommend this place to anyone. So, here I am! The owner was so rude, unprofessional and frankly - aloof. I wouldn't dare let my dog be with her unattended. We will be finding another groomer. One that knows how to have a basic conversation with a customer, one that answers their phone, and honors a service they say they provide. Dog parents - beware! read more

FIVE STARS PLUS!!! I want to thank Terry and her team for saving my dog, Louie. He came in for his first visit grooming a few weeks ago - he was unable to get in to his normal groomer. While at Pet Pro they could not extract his right anal gland. Terry advised me to get him checked at the Vet right away. Needless to say, Louie was at the Vet the next day (Sunday morning). Sure enough, his right gland was blocked with a mass that needs to be removed immediately. A few days later he was scheduled for a CT scan at VCA in Kearny Mesa followed by surgery the next morning. The CT scan showed he had another growth in his left gland so both glands were removed. The masses were biopsied and fortunately they were benign. Louie is groomed every two weeks (at another groomers) - none of his groomers mentioned difficulty extracting his gland. Thankfully Terry and her team did notice this problem, told me and helped save Louie!! These tumors are common, they grow very quickly, spreading to the dogs limp glands, then to their lungs. Wow, Wow, Wow!!! Once again (our second visit), AAA proved to be *5 Star*. We took "both" dogs (Newfoundland mix 130# and Samoyed #50#) to AAA. Misha, the Samoyed, came out just as beautiful as she did the first time. We paid $100 for her once again. They did not feel the need to increase our charge as they thought they might have to after our first visit. I felt this to be totally fair. Of note for this visit is our Newfoundland mix (Jake). For the past few years we have had to medicate Jake with Prednisone and Benadryl after "every" grooming for 3 days up to as much as 10 days. When we first came to San Diego last December we had the dogs groomed at PetsMart in El Cajon and for the first time, had to medicate Jake only minimally. They did a great job on him. This time, we have not had to medicate Jake even once. It has been 4 days now and not one "scratch". He was given an oatmeal bath and no conditioners, no sprays, and lots of clear water rinse. This is the same routine we have asked for at "every" grooming facility over the years. It looks like AAA are the "first" to do as we asked right down to the "t". I can't say enough for these folks. If you have a "special" needs dog, I can highly recommend AAA. They will do it "right"!!! read more

AAA Pet Pros has been great with our dog. He's gotten baths and haircuts from them and he always leaves very happy, well groomed, and with a cute bandana. Our dog has allergies, so they are very careful with the products they use on him. He also does not like being in a crate and is pretty difficult to put in one (he's about 70lbs), so they make sure to schedule an appointment for him at a time when he is bathed right away. After he's done, he just hangs out in the back with them tied to a table rather than being put in a crate. They call us right away when he is done as well. Service has been great and our dog looks great afterwards. I definitely recommend their services. Things to note: Cash or check only. Open only Wed - Sat. (but early 7:30AM). read more

This is the only groomer where I will take my cocker spaniel! Seriously, anywhere else does not seem to know what a cocker cut should look like, but I have been going here for a while and have never had a bad experience. I was reassured when I saw several other cockers already inside the building. They do as I ask, focus on cutting a little more off here or less off there. The do a lot of the extras as well, teeth brushing, nail clipping, etc... My dog always looks great, smells great and has some festive banner on when I pick him up. Most importantly, he does not seem to mind being there. It is a bit on the pricey side with services usually costing $50-$60, but I feel it is well worth it. read more

I have found my Sheila's groomer! After having a devastating experience with another groomer in La Jolla (see Petsmart at Village Square reviews), I decided (after a year's time) to find a groomer that would not only do a great job in bathing and cutting, but also a kind and understanding groomer that would listen to my concerns and work with the issues that my dog now has from the previous groomer. I read the reviews here on Yelp about A A A and decided to give them a call. I could tell a lot so far just by the first phone conversation which was very personable and friendly. They took the time to understand my dog's situation and extreme fear of being groomed. I was able to feel comfortable about booking an appointment with them! My appointment was booked with the owner of the shop, Terri, for a Saturday morning. That morning I was late an hour to the appointment but the staff just smiled and said that it was okay and that they would be able to accommodate for the late start time! The front staff all were friendly and acknowledged my pup and I right away. They explained everything that was included in the bath and cut as well. Sheila was a little hesitant at first but she went with the groomer into the back room (which you can see on a TV screen live from the front). The owner told me that she would be ready about 1230-1pm, and would call me if anything came up during the grooming session. I got a call from A A A about 1245 and my pup was just about done and ready for pick up. All in all, the hair cut was great (short summer cut for double coated dog and no lion head or bushy tail etc) and she was so soft and smelled good. My girl got a wash, deep conditioner, natural dry (no blow dry), blueberry facial, expressed anal glands, nails cut, teeth brushed, and a bow and bandana for only $85! MOST importantly, Sheila was happy to see me, not defensive or like she went through any traumatic experiences (like last time), and was just her same ol' happy self!!!! She appeared like she felt better and was happy to get groomed!!!! We (Sheila and I) definitely recommend A A A Pet Pros Inc to anyone who is looking for a groomer that not only is great at grooming, bathing, cutting, nails, etc, but very friendly, attentive, and sensitive to your dogs needs and your concerns. They are also quick AND efficient. In at 1015 out by 1pm. I am SO HAPPY I took my dog there and Sheila is too :) We definitely will be back next time! read more

Without question - AAA Pet Pros is a 5 Star service. If I could give it 6 or more stars, I would. Before we married, my wife started taking our bichons to AAA Pet Pro and its now going on 15 years that they have visited twice a month. Can not emphasize how much the girls look forward to going to AAA each visit. Besides the obvious love and care that the owner and staff have for animals in general - you can tell the pets (I've seen dogs & cats groomed) enjoy the experience because when the groomers have to step to the side for a moment to speak to a client, the pets just sit/stand on the grooming tables calm and comfortable, just waiting for the return of their groomer. No stress, no drama ... just a happy day at the spa for the animals. I'll admit to being a bit jealous when I hear that our bichon's have received lavender baths and hot-oil skin treatment (bichon's have sensitive skin - and they REALLY like the treatments) ... so hopefully, if I come back in another life - I'll come back as a pet that's taken to AAA. One other thing of significant note - over the years - the staff has turned over VERY slowly, if at all ... which means they work as a team, they respect each other (deservedly), and that just flows to happy customers (furry and otherwise). Saw some comments about pricing ... but really, you might save a few bucks (or not) by going somewhere else ... but if you are taking your pet to a groomer, you obviously care about your pet. I'll keep this simple. They are really great. When I take my dogs there, I don't get the feeling they are judging me. When I talk to any employee, especially the main one (i think is the owner), they are genuinely nice, concerned about the dog and don't seem to have any alterior motive (like profit). I will ask them questions about my dogs and they will explain what they do, what products they use (and if they have it it stock they point it out and then suggest a home remedy alternative. After moving back to San Diego from my hometown, I had trouble finding a good groomer for Mia. The places on Yelp had decent reviews, but most of them had one or two horror reviews of pets coming out of the shop with broken legs or mysterious illnesses. I couldn't take any chances like that with my little one! I chose AAA Pet Pros because it had mostly positive reviews, and I figured since it was located in the heart of La Jolla, they couldn't get away with providing mediocre services to the rich pet owners in the area. In the end, I think I made the right choice with AAA Pet Pros. Mia came out of her crate looking happy as a clam, and she smelled SO GOOD for almost a week after the bath! As a first time client, they also offered two of the following services for free: -Blueberry Facial -Medicated Baths -Hot Oil Skin Therapy -Lavender Essential Oil Rinse -Teeth Brushing My only dissatisfaction with AAA Pet Pros was that they didn't trim Mia's nails as short as I would normally like. That certainly won't stop me from calling upon their services again though, since I didn't clarify what I wanted in the first place. They have solidified me as a new client. First off, I HIGHLY recommend taking your furry friends to get groomed here. Not only did they do a great job grooming my energy ball of a Maltipoo, but they too accommodated me last minute! As I work in retail, my days off are few & far between so it didn't help that I hadn't planned the day well in advance to get my pup looking her best. That morning I had been calling places left & right only to find that not a single one was able to take her. As a last resort I figured what the hell, let me give these guys a call & just check! Terry, the super sweet owner, picked up & assured me that they could have her groomed by 5:30 the same day! Shocked that they were willing to stay behind to fit my pup in, I drove over as quickly as I could. Dropping her off was easy & convenient (as they have a few spots in front of the shop just for drop offs & pick ups). When first stopping in to drop off Zoe, the entire staff was attentive & friendly. I even had the fortune to see a few dogs leave their grooming sessions looking flawless, but most importantly happy! After indicating what my puppy Zoe's grooming session was going to entail, I happened to meet the owner Terry. She was very knowledgeable, friendly, & had just so happened to ask about how I had heard of them. After mentioning that I had discovered them on Yelp, she immediately asked if I had read any of the reviews. After confirming this with her, she asked what my thoughts/perceptions were on a past customers doggy who had unfortunately passed away. According to the review, the owner believe Terry & her staff had done something that may have contributed to the sudden death of their beloved pet. I explained to Terry that, the owners review explained things pretty clearly & reassured me that the death of her doggy may not have had anything to do with Terry & her staff at all, but perhaps instead of any one of the many health issues flat faced dogs are vulnerable to. In any instance, Terry's kindness in sending flowers to their home (only to have them returned to the doorstep of the shop) shows that she too suffered a loss. The doggies had apparently gone to Terry for YEARS & both herself & her staff had grown to see them as family too. Unfortunately, the upset owner, who was clearly grieving as well, misplaced their feelings in believing that AAA groomers had anything to do with their doggies death. Terry mentioned to me that she had even offered to have a necropsy done in order to determine what exactly had contributed to the dogs death, further reassuring me that Terry & her team had nothing to hide & were more than willing to discover the truth behind the unfortunate and untimely death of the doggy. Surprisingly, in less than an hour I received a call from the team that Zoe was ready for pick up, and only a half hour later I made my way back in to find Zoe looking spick & span! I was very pleased to notice that Zoe had clearly had a joyful experience with Terry & Damaris that afternoon & didn't even seem like she wanted to leave! All in all I will most definitely be back to AAA Pet Pro's; as my initial experience here was far better than I ever expected. Terry & her team genuinely did an above & beyond job for my Zoe, & on such late notice too! AAA Pet Pro's are clearly very passionate about animals, their care, & of course, their looks! Plus, the quality here was far better than any other groomer I have used in the past & the prices (although expensive for a broke college student like myself), are doable! Cheers to Terry, Damaris, & the whole team at AAA Pet Pro's! Keep up the excellent customer service & grooming experiences! UPDATE: I forgot to mention another previous review which sort of spooked me a bit before coming here as well; the one regarding the collar hurting her yorkie. This can honestly happen at any time when using a regular collar, which is why I personally use a harness instead. Whenever taking my doggy to any grooming or vet appointment I always bring this with me & leave it on her so that the staff can utilize this instead of a traditional collar. Also, if concerned enough, mention that you want you pup to not be on anything other than the harness so as to prevent any potential injury. This nipped any potential issue in the bud for me when visiting AAA Pet Pro's as they had absolutely no resistance to using her harness. Don't go here! I took my dog in and when I picked her up, as she tried to bark, shrieking sound came out of her. I asked the owner of anything happened and she said no, everything went well. I immediately took her to the Vet. Vet suspects the collar attached to the styling table must have chocked severe enough to crush her vocal coward. It took three or four weeks to get her voice back with prescription Meds. Now whenever I pass by the grooms, my dog starts shaking and try to bolt across the street. I took our dog to Pet Pros this morning at 8am for his first groom ever..the staff was really nice, and while I was there about 3 other pet owners brought their dogs in to be groomed...well, the dogs were happy and excited to be there which says a lot I think. There was no smell of dog in the shop whatsoever and it was very clean and tidy. I will post back after I pick up our dog and let you know what I think about his new groomed look... Okay, so I picked up our little pooch after they gave me a call saying he was all done and ready to be picked up. (I totally appreciated that they gave me a call letting me know.) When I dropped him off I showed the girls a photo of how I wanted him to look and I left the photo with them in case they wanted to look at it again. Well... he doesn't look at all like the photo which kinda bums me out. He looks clean and cute but shaved FAR too much for my liking. He was happy when I picked him up which I think is a good thing and he is knick free which I have heard can be a big issue with groomers, but the reason I took in a photo is to show them how I wanted him cut!!! Oh well....I will take him back for one more try and when I do I will take in another photo... but if they don't listen after that visit I won't go back. I really hope they do a good job the second time around because I liked the girls in the shop, the location is so close to home but for $58 I expect them to do what I ask. EDIT 1.18.08 Yesterday I received a hand written thank you note from AAA Pet Pros. They thanked me for bringing our dog into their store and hoped I was happy and that I would return. WOW! What a nice touch. Usually I only get a lame birthday card from my dentist letting me know it's time to come in for my annual check up. They killed our beautiful healthy Pug!! We took our Pug for a shave on Saturday not knowing that he will be gone for ever. It was a routine shave for our Pug and they suggested teeth brushing keep in mind he only had 6 teeth left, when we got him out of the cage naturally we asked did you brush his teeth and the lady said oh no it will take 2 min to put gel on his teeth and we said OK not knowing 5 min later the guy brought him out half dead and he said " he just went limp" than he gave our pug to my husband and told him give him CPR!! 5 min later he was dead, we are heart broken that our healthy beautiful Pug now is dead, please don't take your pets to them as you may never get them back, again Terry's team KILLED our beautiful healthy Pug. 1. We were new. We were quoted $100-120 on the phone based on my description--a medium (45 lb) doodle. When I checked out the owner wanted to charge me $150 and pointed out X-Large dog on her schedule, saying that she automatically put poodles there regardless of size--so I was misled on the phone. 2. The shave/cut was awful. I had specifically asked at drop off-- that if they shaved, to make his entire body incl. head close to the same length. I came back to a dog shaved almost to his bare skin, w/a huge balloon head--all the hair on his head was 8-10x as long. The owner's answer, "Well, that's the way I like it" and then said that she expected me to come in every 2 wks for a bath and every month for a shave... So she intentionally had the portions btwn body/head way out of line which will require me to go back to get groomed sooner vs letting it all grow out equally. 3. His underside was full of areas where the groomer broke his skin (small bleeding)--there was no need to shave so close down there. 4. His whiskers on his face had been completely cut off. Was in La Jolla over Memorial Day weekend and Otto needed an emergency dog bath - the poor goober threw up on the way down from LA (I blame the crazy traffic!). I'm so thankful I found AAA Pet Pros - they are absolutely lovely people. Otto is a large adopted golden (actually probably part bear) and is very wary of new experiences, but the ladies were able to take Otts from barf buddy to stud with swagger. He came out clean, happy and very mod. A lovely thank you card was received a few days later. Highly recommended - definitely wish AAA was closer to me. I must say when I called in on Saturday morning to see if they could squeeze my little shi-poo in I was very thankful that they accommodated me. I asked them to cut her very short and around the face and they did just that. The staff was very friendly. The place looks a bit cluttered when you walk in but clean I suppose. How clean can a dog grooming place look?? It took about 3 hours for them to do my pup and when I went to pick her up they were able to cut my big dog's nails. VERY NICE, VERY ACCOMMODATING. My only issue is the price. It was $58 for her cut and $15 for the big dogs nails. Not bad you would say for La Jolla but I have a place in North Park that I can go and get her done for $30 and his nails for $7.... and they do just as good of a job. So... its all about location. I think I would be willing to drive to North Park to save a little money. We will see if this place offers coupons ever or any type of discount. If you need a local place in La Jolla though and don't mind spending the extra money.... I would recommend this place. read more

I've been taking my golden retrievers, Daisy and Taj, to AAA for years and they always coming back happy and feeling and smelling wonderful! There's nothing better than snuggling up to your fur babies after they've been groomed! They are true professionals. I own a dog walking and sitting company called DogZenergy and I recommend them to all of my clients. They are extremely professional and can handle dogs in a gentle way that don't necessarily 'love' going to the groomer. His fur isn't very even, so I wouldn't dare to try to trim him myself and worry about taking him just anywhere. He's a little wiggly puppy and they are super patient with him. I used to live above this groomer. My dog always loved going here, although he can be timid and afraid in new situations. The girls that work here love my dog like he is their own. Whenever he would walk by they would want to pet him and give him treats. He would want to run in and see them. I moved to North Park, and have tried two different groomers since then who have failed miserably for different reasons. I have decided to just make the trek from North Park to La Jolla to see the girls here. I know they will treat him well and be kind to him, so it is worth the drive. read more
