Called for what I thought was 24 hour roadside assistance only to find that they say Cumberland county does not have anyone on standby for service. The American Automobile Club, aka AAA, is one of the two organizations that is permitted to issue an international driving permit (IDP). These are required if you're an American planning on driving a car somewhere outside the United States or Canada. I'm planning a trip to Italy this winter and we're going to be renting a car. Therefore, I need an IDP. Getting this done at AAA today was super easy and very fast. A short wait for the next available agent and she brought me back to her desk. She took my picture, filled out the little IDP, attached the picture and stamped the bejeebers out of the booklet, which I then signed. Easy, pleasy, and only $20. Great service! Before the COVID19 pandemic, organizations similar to AAA were staffed by more mature, "seasoned" employees. As businesses "open up", these same businesses are fielding staffs of younger employees. This has the potential to be disastrous for.customer service and knowledge of business systems. After a visit to Central Penn AAA for help with US Passport renewal (Trindle Road, Mechanicsburg), I was pleasantly surprised. Was the staff "younger"? Yes. Did customer service or system knowledge suffer as a result? No. If you need AAA help, call/stop by their location; you may be pleasantly surprised! Nice job, AAA! read more

I'm new to the area & knew little about titling/new registration. On the phone w AAA I was told I'd need to pay tax on the title. I pointed out I was neither buying nor selling & she amended her statement The 1st rep I visited, whose name I won't use, insisted I move my truck because he couldn't see the VIN. I pointed to the VIN on the insurance card & he said that it didn't matter, he had to see it himself so he asked for my help to find the VIN. Later, he informed me that I'd need to have my truck weighed at "Triple J" & make another appointment to come back another day because my allotted time would conflict w my need to go to Triple J. I sat in my truck googling Triple J. I finally went back inside and asked if he meant Flying J. "Oh, right", he said. "Flying J." I drove to Flying J and spent more money, then called to see if I could come back and finish up. I left a message. He called back the next day... The 2nd rep didn't know enough to make copies of my documents. Seems she wanted to keep them. Insisted she needed my mileage. Good thing I parked close to the building as the wind chill factor made it 14 degrees. Also told me to throw out my NJ tags because they couldn't take them. When I got home ($183 later, plus the cost of weighing the truck) I double-checked PA laws & discovered she neglected to say I had only 10 days to have the truck inspected!! I live on ss. I will not have any $ to spend until the end of March. I should have done my research more thoroughly & not trusted AAA to help me. I need to wait to get the truck inspected & hope I don't get in trouble. Don't go here. read more

This is the third time I have used AAA and they have been just terrible. Two summers ago they were called to assist with a flat tire. It was over 90 degrees out and the wait time was about 2 1/2 hours. When the driver arrived he attempted to change the tire, I believe he stripped the lug nuts and then said he need to go get better tools. He left and never returned. I called a private tow company, they were there in minutes and towed the car. The second experiment was a call about keys being locked in the car. No one ever called back in response to my message. The third most recent experience was when I waited on the phone for more than an hour for someone to pick up, I finally hung up and called again and was then asked to leave a number for a text exchange which I did. I was contacted about 1 1/2 hours later and told that the driver would let me know when he was on his way. He did and arrived when he said he would. But the whole process was more than 3 1/2 hours long. The driver was great, very friendly and professional, but AAA gets an F-. I will be canceling the service. read more
