The repair on my car was excellent, and it runs perfectly now. Unfortunately, after I got it back, my radio no longer worked. When I went back to ask about it, I was told they don't fix those types of issues. I understand that may be outside the scope of the repair, but it's frustrating since the radio worked before my car was serviced. I wish there had been more effort to help. UPDATE: I've found myself coming here to the Morrisville/Cary location of AAA Auto Care in the post-pandemic years to keep my older car (significantly older car) still running. My experience here in the last few years has been much better than the many years ago from my first review. Whether it has been small upkeep items or big huge "gotta get it done or else" issues that come up, they have been great in communication. Not only do they keep me posted on where things are and when to expect my car back but also go over all the possibilities once they diagnose what may be needed. Some visits are small financial ones while others, as you would expect with a much older car, can be more expensive. However I have found that they consider all the possibilities and usually do the best for my old car and my wallet both. I have been happy with my recent experiences here and giving them a much needed updated review for it. read more

On Interstate 40 our Honda Odyssey suddenly made loud noises and lights were lighting up. We managed to get off the highway in search of a gas station. Amazingly a AAA randomly showed up in front of us. The men there immediately figured out the problem and set about to fix it. It was the alternator and battery. They worked on the car and three hours later we were on the road again. Everyone there was kind, professional and sympathetic to our situation. Drawn by its participation in Costco's 15% auto repair program, I took my 17-year old Nissan Frontier in for an engine tune-up (new spark plugs), When asked, I also agreed to their "platinum fuel service". I was NOT provided a repair estimate but based on my previous repair experiences, I assumed the bill would be in the $200-300 range (at most). So naturally I was stunned when my bill came to a whopping $1, 250!! The charge for each spark plug was $58.99 for a total of $353.54! A set of 6 Champion spark plugs can be purchased for less than $50. My car was in their care for a costly 3 hours (at most) and this time cost me $822!! As I was about to pay the bill, I inquired about the high amount and noted that they did not consult with me beforehand. To "console" me, I was offered a free oil change which I turned down, I followed up by phone with the area manager (Pete Bienko) and presented the situation and my great displeasure with such a gouging. He promised to investigate and get back to me. Three weeks later, I have still not heard from him. Strike this place off your list if you are wise. read more

Took Nissan Frontier into shop for repair of overheating/steaming problem. This shop was easiest choice as truck was towed by AAA. The overheating repair has been effective. But the negatives I experienced were: never got calls when these were promised, broke the plastic "lens" on the instrument panel. Said they would replace, never happened. I won't be back. I can't decide if this car care business suffers from incompetence or shady business practices...? I think it's both. Read the reviews, and go to the BBB website and see all the complaints. There are themes of both. A couple of weeks ago, my Honda with a AAA battery would not start. The mobile unit came out, tested the battery, found it was bad, and was about to change it out. Unfortunately he could not get the connector off the negative terminal. So I drove it to the AAA Kildaire location, expecting them to put in a new AAA battery because it was less than 36 months. When I arrived I told them I would wait. After a bit they called and said they think the starter is bad and they wanted $76 "to test it". I told them no. Then after another 30 minutes, they said they put a new battery on and the starter must be bad because their machine says "it pulls too many amps when starting". They added that my battery was NOT under warranty due to around 2,000 miles over the 36,000 allowance but it doesn't matter because my starter ruined it anyway. So they wanted $210 for a new 36-month battery plus whatever extra charges they might add. I told them no thank you, I'll take it to my mechanic, and then there some attitude about ok, we'll have to take it back off the new battery and put your old one on, but if you just replace the battery it will be ruined. I drove it to my trusted Honda-only mechanic. They charged it overnight and tested it the next morning, and said the battery was bad. I spent an extra $60 for a diagnostic (which they said wasn't needed but I wanted peace of mind) and they gave me a printout showing the amperage draw is right what it should be, for multiple starts. I paid $130 for an AC/Delco 42-month battery plus the $60 so the total was still less than a AAA 36-month battery. I will never buy a AAA battery again. I will never go to a AAA Car Care center again. They tried to talk me into additional costs and repairs, and they misdiagnosed = Shady business practices and/or incompetence. read more

We brought our car to them because the check engine light came on. They found several things wrong with the car, but none of them were the issue causing the check engine light to come on. They didn't have the parts and "couldn't be sure what the problem was until after a $900 repair." Once that repair was done, they could check something else, which of course was broken and needed to be fixed for another $500. After that, we got the car and it was making weird noises and the light came back on, so we went back. The guy behind the counter was condescending and chuckled at my wife in a way that really upset her. So then I went to join her and talk to the folks. They first tried to tell us that we weren't hearing what we actually heard. Eventually, they said it was something unrelated but that the repair the did just made the fuel injector work better and that the noise was supposed to be there. We'd had the car for 12 years and never heard that noise. They didn't stand by their work or offer any solutions. We decided to chalk it up as an expensive lesson and are taking our car somewhere else. I had a similar experience with them years ago, but because of the convenient location I thought maybe they'd gotten better and I could try them again. Lesson learned! Save yourself the trouble and find a different mechanic. read more

I've been a AAA member for over 20 yrs. Their service over the last 5 years has drastically declined. My car broke down and I called AAA for help on a hot muggy day in August and after a 3 hour wait on the side of a major intersection they NEVER showed up. I ended up calling 911 for a tow! I went in for an oil change and came out with a car that started leaking oil. I know the car was not leaking because I keep cardboard under the engine. At $73 for a oil change...I brought the car back and told the sales person that I thought the oil pan plug was not properly put back and I could see it was dripping from the plug. After they supposedly checked they said nothing was wrong and of course offered to do a dye test and other excessive, costly, testing. I should have just driven the extra miles to the Honda dealership. read more

AVOID THIS LOCATION- If I could give no stars I would. I have used AAA in a few states in the past without any issues, until I came to the Chapel Hill Rd location. The employee I dealt with was very rude. I took my car for the routine inspection, which has never failed and they failed it after all boxes were checked as okay because of the tinting on the back windows. Mind you, this was how I purchased the car and it has passed in the state of NC every year that it has been on the road. To top it off, they CHARGED me after failing my vehicle. Had a very bad experience here 9 years ago in 2011 regarding my sister's car but they have changed a lot since then and did a great job on my mom's 2006 Honda Civic. I will definitely come back here but I just recommend that they hire more staff so oil changes can be done faster and possibly price match the dealership prices. Let's start by saying that I have my own mechanic. A trusted reliable and cost efficient guy that has always done me right. My car had a problem and I called AAA (I am a member) to have them tow me to him. AAA offered me 10% of the repairs if I would try their shop. Like haircuts you just dont deviate if you dont have to. However the AAA was less than a mile from my house so I said yes. They were thorough and did good timely work. I saw a lot of ratings where people felt they were getting ripped off here. Not sure if it was me being extremely knowledgable about my car or not but the guys told me what I already knew was the problem with no extras and that was before they knew I knew it. read more

As a long time aaa member I was extremely disappointed with 2 facts about this place. The night I brought my car in 15mins before closing, I was informed their shuttle service vehicle was broken down and I am a premier member who pays the highest rate for extra benefits. I had to walk 2miles home in the dark as I had no other means of getting home. They did not discount the quoted price of repair for the lack of shuttle service. And to boot they quoted me $520 to fix a torn transmission pan which included the 10% member discount! I ended up having my car retowed to my regular mechanic who fixed the same issue for $220. I took my car in and it needs a new alternator. $850 is the quoted price from AAA. Quoted prices around town are for around $650. AAA says they will match the competitors price but won't call over to competitor to verify. I guess it is my burden to prove why I shouldnt be overcharged $200... My car was there 2 days while I figure out what to do and manage a $650 hit... I get a text at 5:56 yesterday saying a $25 storage fee will apply if I don't get my car by 6:00... So in the end, AAA insisted on $200 more than market value for my repairs, and its $25 to have my car in its half full parking lot for about 16 hours... never again... I explained my position that I was a long term customer, and that dinging me for $25 after trying to overcharge me for $200 was going to change all that... (AAA very unapologetically rang me up for the $25, plus tax) And, several months ago I took my same vehicle to this AAA and my rear/back door wouldn't shut because the latch was jammed. AAA gave me back my car, still not being able to close the back hatch, saying it would cost me [over $500 I don't remember exactly] to replace the latch... I declined... 30 minutes later with a $5 bottle of liquid wrench I was able to get the locking mechanism free. Thanks for nothing, AAA. read more

The shop, the work and the price were all fine. Unfortunately, the work took longer than promised. Was happy to wait for the service when it was promised as 1 hours 15 minutes. At around 2 hours, I started getting annoyed. When the work was completed at approaching 2.5 hours, I was more than ready to be leave. The only saving grace was the free wifi that enabled me to keep working, but I would have made different plans if I'd known the work was going to take twice as long as expected. read more

I went there today for an oil change & state inspection Elliott was the person working at the front desk, he was so rude to me, didn't greet me when I walked in or anything. Granted he was the only person at the front desk but still that doesn't mean that one should be rude to customers. When it was time to pay for my service, I noticed that the price was a bit much, so I asked him does that include members discount as well as the members coupons & he was like "oh wait I grabed this from your car (a coupon that I left on the passenger seat in my car) let me ring it in". That in itself is rude for two reasons! 1- he shouldn't be taking stuff out of my car & 2- usually when we go to AAA without even a coupon they give us whatever coupons they have available for members. So he discounted $20 off my total as per the coupon, but he took off the 10% off labor that is given to all AAA members which was originally discounted!!! At this point I was so done with him & I wanted to leave so I didn't even ask for that 10% given to all members. As I was leaving he asked if I wanted that coupon card back & since it had other offers on it I was like yeah sure I'll keep it! So he went out of his way to go find a pair scissors to cut out the$20off he used for me! read more

My SUV was put on the lift incorrectly and my running boards were dented as a result. Manager asked the mechanic who serviced my vehicle what happened and the mechanic denied using the type of lift that would cause this type of damage. Unfortunately, the "pre-service" pictures that were taken of my vehicle prior to being taken back to the service bay were "not clear enough" according to the manager to determine if there was damage before I arrived for my appointment. The manager then ran a Carfax report on my vehicle and said that he could see it was serviced a few times earlier in the year and suggested that the damage most likely occurred at one of those visits. I just had the running boards put on less than 6 months ago so they were practically brand new. Now they are visibly damaged and need to be replaced. I do not recommend AAA-Cary and would advise you find a more reputable service center to care for your vehicle. read more

Scammers! Warning: Don't Fall For Their Suggested Repairs!! About 18 to 20 months ago I went to this location for an oil change. They did an "inspection" on my Prius and told me my brakes were more than halfway worn and I should get those replaced ASAP. I declined their brake service and decided I would wait and address that issue in the future. Today was the day I decided to get new brakes. I went to Carmedix in Durham to have them do the job, only to find out my brakes are in near perfect condition, with absolutely very little wear, and they do not need replacing for at least another 50K to 60K miles. Carmedix showed me my brake pads and rotors on the car and they indeed looked to be in excellent shape and they informed me Prius cars are especially easy on brake pads and rotors because of the regenerative braking. I have just under 30K miles on my car as of today. Carmedix's honesty saved me $$$. Such a rare thing to find an honest shop. SHAME ON YOU AAA! You deserve every bad review you get and then some. I will never take my car to any AAA service center. I have the proof of your scamming people and I will let everyone know how dishonest you are. read more

He has been very honest with my previous repairs and today was no exception. I had authorized the two repairs but when I checked out I was told the mechanic found a way to fix one issue at no cost. My experience with AAA in Morrisville has been less than positive. I've been using them on and off for several years due to proximity and convenience to my house. My father owned a service station and I worked there growing up, so I know more than the average person when it comes to cars. Here are my issues with this location: State Inspections - They almost ALWAYS find something wrong to fail your car during state inspections. Take it down the street to Jiffy Lube and they will laugh that AAA failed due to that item and pass you immediately. Of course AAA always provides an estimate to fix the problem that caused the fail. I've had several fails that other shops passed without any repair. It is clear they use the state inspection to secure mechanical work. Knowledge - Had many experiences where their mechanics were just plain wrong. They either are not knowledgeable or they are trying to secure more mechanical work, either way is not good!! Cost - On certain repairs is sky high. Recently quoted over $1500 to replace wheel bearings in my car. Bought the bearings myself for $200 with lifetime warranty and replaced them in my driveway in less than an hour!! The one thing I still use AAA for is oil changes. They almost always have coupons online that make their oil changes the cheapest around. Just be prepared that they will find other things wrong with your car during the oil change and they will try to scare you in to fixing it right away. Hold firm with a "NO" to any repairs until you get a 2nd opinion!!! It's disappointing to me that this location seems to use the good AAA name to get away with less than stellar business practices. read more

I've had work done there several times - brakes, alignment, oil changes and general maintenance. Everything's worked, so good enough. One disappointment on the last visit (this week)... they send a coupon card every month, it seems, with discounts on several items. The recent one had two coupons I intended to use for wheel alignment and an oil change. $20 each, totaling $40. But I forgot the card. I mentioned that as I checked in. What I expected: "No problem. I see you've been here several times recently. We'll apply the coupon discounts anyway". What I got: "We can't honor the discount without the card. There's a code number on it that we need". I got the $10 AAA member discount, and that's all. The total for the work was over $300. I suppose I could have walked away, or returned home and retrieved the card. Time was short, so I didn't. The guy wasn't rude. He just wasn't helpful. He didn't go an extra step, let alone the extra mile, to secure customer loyalty. I've been coming here for several years and my experiences have been going downhill, but it is so convenient and close to work for me that I've resisted finding somewhere else despite that. Recently they've been so bad that I've decided to stop using them and I felt that I needed to write a review to warn off others. A few positives first: - Comfortable waiting area with good wifi - Friendly staff - Good prices, especially if you're a AAA member Negatives that have finally driven me away: - Length of service: I work about 10 minutes away so usually when I need an oil change I'll make an appointment around lunch time and work while it's being done. When I first started bringing it in a couple years ago I could consistently come in and be out in well under an hour so it was very convenient. A couple other reviewers mentioned this, but the last few times I've been in there for between 1.5-2 hours. I even had one occasion where an oil change took over 2.5 hours. From looking into the garage on all these occasions they never looked that busy. - Bad experiences with mechanical work: I used them once for some mechanical work a couple years ago on a previous car. They told me it would be a quick fix, at most a couple hours, so I scheduled a couple hours when I was clear at work and brought it in. I ended up working in the waiting area for almost two hours and was starting to wonder what was going on, but figured they must be close to being done. They came out and told me they couldn't get the parts and I would have to bring it in again. Despite my frustration I did and my problem ended up coming back in a couple months. They had a warranty for the work, but my car ended up getting totaled before I could bring it back in. At that point I decided I'd only use them for the cheap, convenient oil changes, but never again for mechanical work. - Dubious assessments that work needed be done: It's been mentioned a couple other times, but after a couple of my long oil change waits I was presented with a long quote for work that needed to be done. The first time I went to another mechanic and they confirmed it was a legitimate issue and fixed it for a much lower price. The second time I did the same and they told me it was a non-issue. On one of those occasions I was actually given a quote to replace parts that I had literally just had replaced and were working fine. I had tried to give them the benefit of the doubt several times, but that did it for me. Long story short: I was a loyal customer for a long time, but the level of the service and my question of their honesty has caused me to move on. Hope this helps someone else avoid a similar experience. Two stars from a few positives and a few previous years of good experiences. read more
