Gotta love when its 5pm on a Friday and your engine shuts off in rush hour traffic. LUCKILY AAA came running to our rescue, despite being understaffed and super busy themselves. Our tow driver was very nice, patient and even got us laughing during a stressful situation. The guy working at the shop was very accommodating and told us up front they wouldn't be able to give us a fill diagnostic till after the weekend. Honesty up front is always appreciated even if its something bad. We'll probably have to get another tow to a different auto shop due to timing + services available but if we ever find ourselves in a situation, glad to know we have AAA there to help. read more

I'll go a step further, ask for Michelle -- she'll really annoy the shit out of you. First, I was told, after going through 20 minutes of robot calls etc., that it would be a $65 fee for a roadside assistance request in the first 24 hours. I was told it was in my confirmation email "in fine print." That's just a plain lie. It's nowhere to be found, and if a 39 year old tech-savvy person like myself can't find it, that means it's designed to be hidden to screw people over. I went in to recharge my air conditioner and somehow, they found $500 more in repairs. They even sent me a link to all of the repairs that needed doing. I can handle basic stuff on my own but overall, I'm not really a car person and the repairs sounded fairly dire (wtf is a throttle body anyway?) so I said yes to them. I was hidden away in the break room of my job for 10 minutes trying to figure this out because I have one of those jobs where we don't exactly get a lunch break. I really needed my car back for work so I figured I'd just bite the bullet and do the repairs if they were really necessary. When I got the bill, there were different, significantly less dire sounding things on the bill that they charged for. Meanwhile, the things listed on the AAA link they'd sent me were all conveniently missing from the bill. Like are you kidding me? You charged me for topping off fluids and changing out my spark plugs? I could've done that! It felt like a bait and switch! Plus, ever since then, my car developed a rattling sound whenever I make a sharp turn when it never used to do that. So thank you AAA for finding the most expensive way to charge for the easiest fixes (while telling me that you were going to do more complicated ones) while simultaneously messing up my car. They are also extremely rude. My job is customer service adjacent so I always try to approach things in a very polite, calm, level-headed manner. Never before have I've been so interrupted, disrespected and mansplained to when addressing my concerns. So misogynistic and not worth my time. Uncommunicative, over priced, and incompetent! The main service I brought my car in for was NEVER done! I brought my car in, with an appointment, for an oil change and tire rotation. my car was also making a noise, which was to be diagnosed. everything went as planned. I was told I needed new tires and ball bearing. so I made an appointment for the flowing week. When I brought in my car at 9am, I was told it would be brought in shortly and would take about 2 hours if the noise is from the tires. it would take 4 hours if it's the ball bearing. 6.5 hours later I get a call that my car is ready to be picked up. I asked if the noise was fixed, "oh, I'll have them test drive it now." Then why call me to tell me it's ready?! 30 minutes later I get a call back saying it is the ball bearing and it can not be fixed today. What happened to the 4 hours? I have never had such a bad customer service experience at a mechanic. I came in asking that my fluids and cabin air filter be checked per a maintenance light. The desk guy talked down to me repeated but then agreed to look at my car. Fast forward 10 minutes and he comes in to tell me that I'm all set. When I asked if they checked the things I asked, he said they just reset the light. I know how to reset the maintenance light myself...that's not what I asked for. When I tried to explain this to the man, he repeated cut me off, talking over me and invalidating my voice. I have never felt so unheard and disrespected. The absolute best mechanic service I have ever received . I was headed up a mountain at 9pm on a Friday when my alternator gave out. Ontop of my truck being immobile, it was 30 degrees and snowing. I was able to get my truck towed to this shop and a man by the name of Matt was still there working and was willing to help. Matt got everything scheduled to have my truck up and running by the next day. Along with my alternator being out, the inter cooled piped had completely exploded. Brian addressed this to me and was determined to have it fixed by the end of the day, on a SATURDAY! These awesome guys went well out of their way to help out and get me home. I joined Yelp just to write this review -- that is how bad AAA of Asheville is. I took my truck to this shop on Nov. 23 and told them I thought there was an issue with the motor, that the night before my motor had been smoking from under my hood, and I checked the oil and there was none. The manager Andrew called me 2 days later to tell me there was nothing wrong with the motor, no oil leak, and that it would be $2,000 to fix my power steering system. I paid them the $2,000 and picked my truck up that afternoon. On Monday Nov. 27, three days later, my motor blew up while I was driving on a 4 lane road -- left me stranded in the middle of traffic. Shop then had my truck for 8 weeks to install a rebuilt motor. Paid a $4,000 deposit first week of Dec. Told me it would be done by Christmas, then New Years. Would not communicate with me. I had to keep calling for ETA. They took the week between Christmas and New Year off. Then they promised me the truck would be ready by Friday Jan. 12. No communication. I had to call them. Nope not ready. New ETA: Tuesday Jan. 16. Nope, no communication. I had to call them. New ETA: Wed Jan. 17. Finally picked up my truck yesterday, Jan. 17. Paid $4,836.27. Then they take me to my truck which is running, idling, key in the ignition in the middle of a busy public parking lot with no one attending it. Got in, drove it home. When I got home, I noticed, the driver side lock is busted. They key in the ignition was not the original key I had given them. It was a new key. Today found out they "lost" my key. They had a new key made without my permission. When Andrew the location manager told me they had made a duplicate of my key, without first asking me, he had the audacity to say, "But you were'n't charged for it." When I asked to speak to his manager after that, Andrew refused to let me talk to his manager. First he told me he knew nothing about the situation. Then he told me he is the one who authorized the new key to be made. When I demanded to speak to his manager, he told me he he was not going to give me his manager's number. Spent almost $11,000.00 with this shop for them to deliver a damaged vehicle to me twice. Do not use these scam artists. These people are unethical and dishonest. Worst shop I have ever been to. Went to AAA to get my oil changed yesterday. When the car was finished and I went to pay, I almost fainted when they told me the cost - JUST FOR AN OIL CHANGE - was $81.15. I was shocked but should have checked other repair shops. Valvoline and my Honda dealership were both a lot cheaper. One of the best customer service I experienced. Brian went above and beyond to help me with a new battery. I walked in without an appointment abt the 12 bay shop was pretty busy. He stated it would take about 1.5 hours to finish but from expression Brian knew I could not wait. Brian volunteered to replace the battery in the parking lot while it rained. I talked with a few people and everyone says that we paid way too much for a simple brake job. Will never give them our business again. I seriously considered before deciding to post a review due to my most recent experience. I'd had occasion to use AAA for a couple of oil changes, and a tire repair. Those experiences were basically average. Not good, not bad. Honestly, oil changes and tire repair? Hard to mess up on. About 3 weeks ago, my little truck quit. Literally. On Merriomon, at Beaver Lake westbound, at dusk. Anyone local can tell you that that road at that time is bad, and I was quitel lucky to pull over on to the edge of Merrimon, and Midland road. Bummed but not terribly disturbed, I called AAA for road service. Dispatcher said an hour for the tow truck. Ok, an hour, no big deal. Called my partner, she came over and we hung out. When the hour passed (and more) I checked the text from AAA which gave the name of the tow company. They're based in CLYDE. Check your map program - 34 minutes on a good day, NOT rush hour. Ok, poor choice for AAA, but..... Called AAA back again. I was getting steamed as it had been an hour and twenty, with no communication. The new dispatcher was apologetic, and confused. He called the tow company. The tow company, who frankly, I can't recall the name of (and deleted the texts) said that their driver was up on the BRP and it would be ANOTHER hour at least! When asked why they didn't update to AAA, they apparently said "hey, no big deal". I did get heated at that point, and was pretty harsh with the AAA person, but did say it was not his fault, but the service I was getting, being a top level member since 1987 (yes, NINTEEN EIGHTY SEVEVN - thirty one YEARS) was less than s****y. After more apologies, he said they'd find another tow. Forty minutes later, the truck arrived, and found out from driver that the Clyde company was contracted to be the primary tow for AAA - wtf? I happen to live just north of Beaver Lake and KNOW there's at least 2 accredited tow companies not 2 miles from there!! The fun continues........had them take it to AAA as I don't have a mechanic (not many work on older vehicles...1991). They called me the next day for approval to work on it...?? Why the **** do you think I had it towed there? The next day, they called to say it was fixed. Great. The mechanic wanted to talk to me. ?? After being presented with a bill for $103.xx, The mechanice went outside with me and showed me a broken wire. Said it had to be connected for the vehicle to run. Also mentioned that it had a replacement motor (which I knew) and someone had been "creative" with the wiring, and that there were issues with a couple of relays. His "repair" was to stick the wire back in. Wouldn't put a connector on it, and said so, just stuck it back in. Also didn't work on the relays at all. Was unconcerned and disinterested. They also charged me for parts. Apparently, 10.00 for the connector he didn't put on .... so I put one on that I had on hand...about five cents, ten minutes. Subsequently, the battery kept going flat. Would charge back up ok, but?? There was NO WAY I was going back to AAA. Took it to the folks who put the motor in. Not only did they fix the battery drain, and the relays, but reported the battery drain was due to AAA yanking on the wiring and breaking different wires in the harness causing the drain. IT SAYS SO ON THEIR BILL. $300.00 later (and I am FINE with that company...) truck's been 100% I will keep my membership (and all of my family that's on it, for more $$) until it runs out - and hope like hell I get towed 20 more times just to get some satisfaction that the thousands I've spent over the years have been worth it. Heading out for our first trip in 14 months we were looking forward to some time out of the house. Headed to Pigeon Forge for a short vacation. Had a catastrophic tire blowout about 40 miles east of Asheville on Interstate 40. Gathering my wits, I thought to call AAA. A tow truck arrived on scene within 30 minutes The operator changed my tire and we were back on our way in another 30. What could have cost us our lives and I thought would at least cost us a full day was mitigated within an hour! Extremely responsive, cost conscious, service oriented and professional! Very dishonest garage, borderline criminal. I have had several extremely negative experiences with this garage over the last few years- they routinely sabotage vehicles in hopes of further business. I will detail my experiences below. 1) I stopped in for an oil change because I received a coupon that made it seem worthwhile. They rotated my tires without mentioning it or asking if I wanted my tires rotated, and they did not test drive the vehicle after doing so. When I got onto the road my car was pulling violently to the left - I brought it back and they told me I would need an alignment, not a rotation. I knew this wasn't true, so I brought it to my regular garage where they told me that 1) my alignment was perfect, and 2) my tires had been irresponsibly rotated. They re-rotated and balanced my tires and my drive went back to normal without any adjustment to my alignment 2) I had a leaky radiator and they quoted me $400 for the part + $800 labor. I bought a new radiator at the auto part store for $99 and my regular mechanic charged me $140 in labor. 3) Several days after a routine service (oil/fluids/etc) I experienced overheating and oil in my coolant reservoir. AAA towed me to AAA garage who told me I had a blown head gasket, that seemed accurate. As I didn't have money for that repair at the time I towed my vehicle to my regular mechanic and had him wait a few weeks. When he finally got around to it he found no sign of a leaky head gasket, and as far as he could tell someone had poured oil into my radiator and gummed up the thermostat, which stuck shut and caused the overheating. He did a cooling system flush + thermostat change and that vehicle has been rocking ever since. 4) most recently- serpentine belt snapped and I rolled into the AAA garage as it was 1/4 mile away. They put in a new belt and all was fine for a few days until my power steering started going wacky. Suspecting sabotage based on past experience I brought it to my regular mechanic, who told me that a component of the power steering pump had been glued shut and that was the reason for the failure (I am paraphrasing). I called AAA for a quote on the job and it came in at $1800. Parts and labor at my mechanic totaled $440+ tax. My conclusion is that the management of this AAA service center is inherently dishonest- I could forgive the pricing discrepancies if not for the fact that they are deliberately deceptive in their diagnoses, and flat out criminal in their propensity to sabotage vehicles. I would rate them 0 stars if I could, and will be cancelling my AAA membership in favor of a roadside assistance package from my insurance company as a direct result of this garage's blatant and systemic dishonesty. read more

I do not write reviews often but feel this needs to be known. Do not bring your vehicle here for any sort of service. I have had multiple poor experiences here. They will try and milk you for every dime possible. I had my check engine light come on and took it to them. They said I needed to replace my manifold gasket, to which I said okay. An hour later they said, while they had the manifold cover removed that they could replace another component that was working fine, but sometimes goes out. They said it would make sense because they already had the manifold cover removed, it would save me money because they would not have to charge me to remove the cover in the future if anything went wrong. I asked again if the part in question was currently working and they assured me it was. So I declined. Low and behold, the next day my check engine light comes on and the part they said was fine was now bad and needed to be replaced. I called them to let them know, and the "manager" told me I was not telling the truth and that they had told me the part was bad and I needed to replace it while they had the manifold cover off. I explained to the manager, that I am of sound mind and body, and what person would not fix an issue deemed to be defective when they had the manifold cover off and not have to pay more labor to have it removed again so a fix could be made. Again called a liar. Long story shorter, I had to escalate to a regional manager who reimbursed me, in full, so i could take my vehicle to a reputable mechanic to have all of the problems they created fixed. Over $400 dollars. The store manager would not even return calls to the regional manager. All in all, I will keep my AAA, but will never again use any of their repair services. Good luck if you do...You have been warned. Oh and almost forgot to mention that I had them change the oil during this time, which was over filled and caused my pressure sensor to spike to its peak. Had to have my reputable mechanic drain the oil to proper levels. read more

This place is a scam, to anyone who cares; I hope you see this message and save yourself money and a LOT of stress...Hopefully, you will do yourself a solid and get your car out of there asap; Also, in addition to the above they also charged me a $150 "diagnostic fee" that was not even accurate to get my car out of what I would call "car jail", aka there. Our car broke down on the way back from Florida about 30 miles east of Asheville. We had AAA tow the car to the AAA car care center off of Merrimon. The transmission had blown and needed to be fixed or replaced. The AAA could only replace it but offered a 1 yr or 3 year warranty. The fix would take a few days. The car was ready the following week and we drove home, so far all appears to be ok. The fix was the amount quoted and it was ready when they said it would be. Thanks. read more

When the coupons come in the mail, throw them in the trash. You'll probably not ever get an oil change for $19.95 My truck required 2 extra quarts of oil. Ok I get that. My bill was $32.99. They said the extra $13 was tax, the 2 quarts of oil and "shop supplies". I asked what are these supplies. They said shop towels, grease guns, etc. They said "you know, the stuff we can't really bill you for so we put in under shop supplies" (exact quote). So, a little math here. The going cost for convention oil is around four bucks. Ok, there's 8 of the extra 13. Tax on 27.95 is $1.96. Grand total of $29.91. So, did I honestly just pay and additional $3.04 for the mechanic to use the red shop towels in his back pocket? Never again! read more

AAA might tow it there for free but this is the worst garage around stay away! Terrible experience all around. Way over priced labor charges $150 per hour then they wanted to make up a $418 part to $720! When I called and asked them for a reasonable charge they claimed it was system generated and there was nothing they could do about it. I told them I would call and complain about that to corp because that markup is ridiculous. the rep called me back and said I had to pick up my car and they wouldnt work on it because as the rep said " my manager said since you are going to complain to corporate anyway that working in your car Isn't a good fit for us, you need to come pick it up". These guys are awesome! I had a unique problem with my vehicle and Graham and Andrew researched it with their technicians and finally diagnosed the correct repair. It took several tries and they ended up having to contact the local Chrysler dealership for the correct diagnosis. It was a strange problem, but they persisted and it had a happy ending thanks to them! I highly recommend them for car repairs. I am visiting from out of town and got a flat. I was already upset from several other bad experiences within our first 12 hours of our trip and having a flat tire was like the cherry on top. I called AAA and they told me that they could get me in immediately and had a tire my size in stock. I dropped my car off and it took about an hour and a half for them to swap it out. They recommended some places to eat and get drinks while we were waiting and they were super nice. The price for the new tire was great as well. I was told to the facility after being stuck on the side of the highway for 2 hours. My alternator was replaced at this facility for over $400 worth of repair. 730 miles later the alternator had came loose due to the fact the person who put it on over tighten the bolt and had broke it and I had to have it repaired at a AAA approved auto center 700 miles away. Been there a handful of times. Mostly positive. However, last trip (about 6 months ago) to get an oil change I discovered later that the staff didn't bother to put the oil cap back on. Luckily, it stayed in the engine compartment and I was able to put it back in. Honest mistake perhaps. I didn't hold it against them but I'm going to be sure to check behind them. Yesterday, I called to schedule an oil change & state inspection. Appointment set for 10 am. I arrive and I am told it would be an hour wait just to get to me. Okay, I'm there, might as well adapt and keep the "appointment." 2 hours later and I haven't heard anything. Oil change and state inspection don't take very long so I think it is a reasonable time to go back. I was told they were an hour behind. They have to be finished by now, right? I go back and they "haven't got to it yet." Are you kidding me? What is the point of setting an appointment? I don't have time to wait around on a workday. I don't have time to make multiple trips to a business and then the end result is that I've accomplished nothing but wasting my time. I won't go back and I won't recommend to my clients. read more

I have a AAA Premier membership - took my Jeep Wrangler there for an oil change & a yearly state inspection. Told me I had a turn signal out needed to replace the bulb & recommended I replace the windshield wipers as they were a little worn. They charged me $50 in labor to do those 2 things (on top of the $15 in labor for the oil change). I will never under any circumstances ever go back there again they have lost my business for life. read more

I've been to this shop several times and had good experiences but not today. I had a 9:30 appointment to drop my car and very specifically stated I would return around noon, which they stated was fine. When I came to pick it up they said it wasn't ready and In fact had not even been taken back. I said that I had a 9:30 appt and how on earth had it not been looked at by 12:15??? They said everyone here had an appointment! What do they do, schedule appointments 5 minutes apart???? The concierge woman was extremely apologetic and kind as she has always been, but the service manager just acted like it was no big deal! It was very easy and pleasant to make an appointment to get new tires. My car uses an unusual size and they were quickly and correctly ordered and ready to put on the next morning. ( I had called in late afternoon.) Upon arrival I was immediately met by a friendly person who had all paperwork ready to hand and was directed to a spotless and comfortable waiting room. The whole facility looked new. It was hard to see from the street (Merrimon) but is beside the Harris Teeter. It took an hour and twenty minutes to replace the two tires. I had thought it might be faster but that's not bad. Then I added having the front end aligned so all told it took almost two hours. I was checked out by a pleasant and competent woman. This location offers many services and I expect to use it in the future. read more

I have had multiple bad experiences here. This most recent time was the worst. I felt tricked into sending my car here when I called AAA for assistance Saturday morning. They implied that it was the only place close that would have time to work on my car on a Saturday. They also told me, after I said that I think my battery died, that it couldn't be my battery, because my car wasn't making any noises when I turned the key over. So instead of sending their battery road assistance, they suggested that I should go ahead and get my car towed. It took an hour for the tow truck to come, then the man with the tow truck didn't know how to tow my car. So I stood out with him in the hot sun and looked up directions (for how to tow my Toyota Rav4) on my phone. Then, after hearing nothing about my car, I called Monday morning and was told that they had no record of my car and didn't know where the keys were. I called them an hour later to make sure that they had found my keys and was told that I needed a new battery. They told me the cost would be $157. A complete rip off. At this point, I just payed the money, so I could have my car again. After I payed the ridiculous sum of money for a battery, I asked where my car was located. The man, who just took my hard earned money, told me that it was "somewhere outside." That's all he said. No further instructions, so I walked around the building until I found my car. I will NEVER go here again and would not recommend them to anyone. Not only are they an absolute rip off, but they are RUDE!! read more

The more I have had to deal with AAA, the less impressed I become. Every time I have called there has been some issue with the most common being that they don't seem to be prepared to come to your assistance without making you wait at least an hour or even much longer. Tonight was a good example of how they tend to leave you waiting forever. I submitted a call for assistance at 2:54am, and was told I would be contacted within 30 minutes to 1 hour. At 3:27am, I did receive a reply, but was informed that my wait would only be 2 to 2 and 1/2 hours. But fortunately my vehicle finally started by 4:38am so I called and told them to forget it. Wow. Terrible but brief experience. Aaa suggested I tow it there, and like an idiot I did. The $100 "diagnostic fee" found a problem that had been taken care of a year ago elsewhere. They nearly doubled the price of the fuel pump that needed to be replaced and explain to me that this is standard for Aaa to do a 40% mark up of all parts. I refused to pay the diagnostic fee, and had it towed to Appletree Honda instead, where instead of $1200 for the fix it was $700 and entirely covered by my extended warranty. Appletree told me the clods at AAA Car Care tore stuff apart that they had to then fix. Last thing: I had a small cat shaped change purse that I deliberately left to see if it would disappear - of course it did... pitiful. read more

My car was stuck in my garage and would not start. I had an idea it was the alternator or starter. I called AAA early in the morning and they came and towed my car to their office location on Merrimon Avenue. They called and told me it was indeed the starter and would replace it if I wanted them to. I was very impressed with the service from that day. All the employees on Merrimon Avenue are A+. They are very kind (Tommy, Renee, Randy) . Dealing with a car that is torn up and waiting on it to be fixed can be very trying. You want to feel as you are the only one who has a car that is being worked on. I know they work hard in the back to do a good job and get our cars fixed and back to us as soon as possible so kudos to all the mechanics too! read more

Though I had called several carriers looking for the best price, only David was prompt and thorough with his estimates. Ultimately, we decided that when we have an insurance issue, what we want is an agent that will return our calls and really knows his stuff - not just give us the cheapest price.
