We needed the driveway plowed and they were able to come out and do it the same day. Very fast and responsive.

Estabrook has done a great job for us! Thank you! Be aware that in heavy multi day storm cycles,…read moreonce a day plowing from a service will not be enough, if you want to go out driving somewhere. So in those circumstances, you of course have to do some clearing work yourself. And if you want excellent road accessibility in winter, think about living in a home with a flat or nearly flat driveway. For best road accessibility, living on Northwoods (if you live in Tahoe Donner) is best, but you will experience more traffic and road noise.

Worst snow removal company experience ever…read more Christmas 2025 we were snowed in for days at a time. We'd wake up and have over a foot of snow in the driveway and a 3' berm at the street. We'd contact them to see when they were coming and they'd say "we already came at 2:30am". Well, that's great, but it's 9am now and our driveway isn't passable. After a few days of this, with our driveway not being passable, and them making midnight runs that don't actually help you in the morning, they charged us an extra $75, on top of the $2,300 season contract, to make our driveway passable for the first time in days. Then, a week or so later with the next snow, we had another foot in our driveway and they said "well, it rained most places in Tahoe Donner and we drove your street in the middle of the night and it wasn't that bad so we didn't bother to plow." I sent pics of the snow in my driveway, both fresh fallen and drifted, and they decided to cancel my contract in early 2026 rather than just do their job of plowing when it snows. If you live in the Bay Area and come up here every few weeks, they'll likely have your driveway clear for you when you happen to arrive. If you live up here, or rent your place out, find somebody else -- anybody else -- they want to take your money and make excuses for why they aren't driving their big fancy plows. Cancelling someone mid season is actually dangerous, too. There is no practical way to make other plans at the last minute, someone could need medical services etc., and it just shows their very low business ethics. Also, they say clearing the berm from the city plow isn't included. So, hope you like shoveling a 3' ice wall after a storm, because they say they're not going to come back and do it. Avoid at all costs.

According to Yelp ratings' definitions, that's "Ok". That to me is an acceptable rating of something that does day in and day out what it is there to do. It's NOT a negative review because doing day in and day out what it is there to do is NOT an easy thing to accomplish. Since its inception some 150 years ago, a very few 3,535 to date have been awarded the Medal of Honor. Daniel John Atkins' was born 18 November 1866, in Brunswick, Virginia. He enlisted in US Navy 27 January 1888. By the time the Spanish-American War broke out in 1898, Atkins had attained the rank of Ship's Cook First Class and was sent to Serve on US Navy's first torpedo boat, the USS Cushing (Torpedo Boat #1/TB-1). 11 February 1898, the USS Cushing was on its way from Key West, Florida to Havana to deliver stores to the battleship USS Maine, which was there to protect American interests during Cuba's revolt against the Spanish government. Most of the details of what happened were told in a letter written by US Navy Rear Admiral Albert Gleaves to the father of Ensign Joseph C. Breckinridge, who was the Cushing's Executive Officer. The letter was published in various US newspapers a few days after the incident that earned then Ship's Cook First Class Atkins the Medal of Honor. According to Rear Admiral Gleaves, a large wave whipped up from extreme winds from a harsh storm swept Cushing's Executive Officer overboard into the turbulent cold sea. A boat that was dispatched with two crew members for a rescue was flipped over by the violent sea and wind. One of those rescuers now in the cold and heavy sea was Gunner's Mate 1st Class John Everetts. Those two rescuers now in the cold sea were hauled back onto the Cushing while all the rescuers aboard and in the sea were thrashed by wind and waves, Seeing that the swept overboard Ensign Breckinridge was now some 30 feet away from the Cushing Gunner's Mate 1st Class Everetts jumped overboard, swam through the choppy sea and managed to tie a lifeline around Ensign Breckinridge's body. Ship's Cook First Class Atkins, who had been part of the rescue effort, saw that Gunner's Mate 1st Class Everetts was now struggling with exhaustion in the brutal sea. He knew more help was needed. According to an account of the incident in a 1969 Pittsburgh Courier article, 32 year-old Ship's Cook First Class Atkins then heroically jumped into the frigid and turbulent sea to save swept overboard Ensign Breckinridge and now exhausted rescuer Gunner's Mate 1st Class Everetts. When Atkins reached the two men he tied lines around both. One at a time, they were all pulled back to the ship. For his actions, Ship's Cook First Class Atkins the Medal of Honor was awarded the Medal of Honor. After 33 years of Service, black American Atkins retired from US Navy October 1921 as a US Navy Chief Commissary Stewart. Nineteen months later, 11 May 1923, at the age of 56, Atkins died. He was buried at the Captain Ted Conaway Memorial Naval Cemetery in Portsmouth. Gunner's Mate 1st Class John Everetts also received the Medal of Honor for his attempt to save his ship's Executive Officer. Ship's Executive Officer Ensign Joseph C. Breckinridge drowned after being swept overboard and the crew of Cushing was unable to resuscitate him after rescue.
