I hate giving bad reviews to any business but in this case I feel like people who are thinking about getting highlights or color here need to be warned, because I didnt get one. Ive been coming here for 3 years now for hair cuts. Hair cuts are good if you show them a picture and help them understand exactly what you want. There is a major language barrier but if the point gets acrossed you have succeeded. Now for the bad, I use to look past the uncleanliness of the place dusty and unsanitary. It wasnt until after covid I realized they still havent got their act together with being cleaner. They brushed my hair with a filthy brush that was just laying around and when he was done and laid it on the counter i saw that it was filled with blonde hair which i had none of. I didnt say anything because I didnt want to be that person and just wanted to get my hair and be gone. Next the pictures will explain itself, A picture of what i showed and explained numerous times of what i wanted to what i actually got and still he tells me thats what I got and thats its exactly like the pic, again I didnt want to be that person and argue b/c that takes alot of me and I Just wanted to leave. Never going back to this place they are unexperienced and needto learn better english if they want to do better. I was really in need of getting my hair done. My birthdays on Monday and I couldn't find anyone with a last min appointment. I got referred here by a family member and decided to give them a try. I called and I was able to be seen right away. At first I was a little skeptical trying somewhere new but I was soo happy with my results. My hair came out perfect and it was very affordable. I decided to give this place a try since I heard some good reviews about it. The worst thing is that I have spend about 30 minutes trying to find the place driving in circles around the Franklin Mills plaza. My car navigator didn't get their exact location so I parked next to Big Lots and called them. I was talking to 2 different people but none of them couldn't clearly explain how to find them. This is s huge language barrier which comes first. There is an old photo saying the salon is a couple of stores away from Walmart, but there's no Walmart here in this plaza now, just the remains of Walmart sign on the wall that looks confusing. Walmart moved to a building across the street. If you need a landmark, look for Dick's or Pathmark - this place is between them. As for service, I asked for a teeny-tiny-bit trim but he took off a little bit more that I expected. Be ready to stop him if you don't like anything he does. I paid $20 for a trim with no washing or styling (I washed and set up my hair in the morning) so I can't say it's something very cheap, my regular salon charges me $30 but there I can easily discuss what I want to have and I won't be nervously sitting in the chair and wondering if he knows what to do. So found this place while looking for a Salon on Groupon, I was nervous for it was my first Groupon and never knew this place existed. I was very pleased with my results. I was there for 4 hours due to the work to fix my mess of a head. My hair was a mess, dark color for I used "Boxed" dye lighter roots, the length was below my shoulder and uneven and it's VERY thick. Pros: 1. Jacky was my stylist and took his time. 2. Did what I wanted and added his own twist that worked out awesome. 3. Appt. was at 10:00 AM and took me as soon as I walked in the door. 4. When I had my final rinse, the woman (did not get her name) was AWESOME. I got a head an shoulder massage and she chatted with me. Was very nice. 5. Jacky cut a child's hair while I was waiting and was great with him. 6. I saw the other gentleman cut a 2 years old hair and he was SOOO patient this little guy had no problem getting his hair cut. Cons: 1. Small staff and it got busy, so at some points the staff had to stop and finish up a paying customer wanting to leave. (this is not a super bad thing for again they are busy) 2. Their english was hard to understand. 3. CHRISTMAS LIGHTS as a part of the decor..... So, my end result to me was awesome; angled bob, base color is a dark red, with caramel highlights and dark low-lights. I will go back... PS - While there and waiting for my color to set, Jacky was talking to a women who is was cutting her hair. He asked her how was the move and she said it was good. I like Harrisburg but still come down to see my friends and for you to cut my hair. She traveled two hours to get her hair cut. Going back this weekend for an hour facial, and back in 6/8 weeks to fill and trim my new do!!! read more

Not the best cut, but very friendly people. I went for a haircut because my hair was really unhealthy and it needed a good cut to get rid of damaged ends. I told the stylist that I wanted him to cut off as much as needed to get rid of damage. After the cut, he flat ironed my hair without asking. I could tell it was too hot because it smelled slightly singed. When I left, the ends still felt damaged. 2 weeks later I made an appointment at a chic salon in center city. I had to get ANOTHER haircut. And additional 2 inches had to be removed. I'm sorry it didn't work out, because they were ry nice. read more

I have mixed feelings about this place. Prices are great and the free head massages are a nice bonus. That girl knows how to scalp massage! They really do try their best to keep you relaxed. I've had my hair cut there several times and they only bad thing I really have to say is that the language barrier is a pain in the ass. They barely speak English, but they do know what they are doing if the message gets through. They also take quite a while working on you so you don't feel rushed. I have issues with sitting long periods of time like that so these are my only complaints. If you're willing to try to break that language barrier and give them a try, be very specific and detailed with what you want, stop them on time if you don't approve of what they're doing and redirect, they will listen. They keep a file on you once you've become a customer, let's say you get your hair dyed a certain color, they keep that noted in a file in case you don't recall what color it was. I didn't have appointment and was quickly taken in. If you are looking for a fancy nail salon this might not be a place for you. But if you are looking for someone who does the job for a quick cut with reasonable price, don't hesitate to come here. Everyone is friendly. My husband doesn't understand my need to drive at least 30 minutes to Franklin Mills, but Jacky is the only one who seems to understand the styles that fit me. The shampooing there is thoroughly enjoyable, with a added bonus of massage on the shoulders. It gets busy on the weekends, so I try to go on the weekdays when I can. read more

DO NOT GO HERE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I left this place crying in anger. That's not the sort of service I can recommend to anyone. I got the Groupon for this place which included shampoo, conditioning treatment, and blowdry/styling. The shampoo and treatment were done by an older lady and it was good. Then I moved on to the haircut with Jacky. I couldn't really tell how the cut turned out when it was wet so I waited to see it dried. As he was blowdrying, I asked him to not blowdry it straight down - I didn't want it to look too flat. You know when you blowdry with a round brush and the bottom of your hair gets a half circle like curl? That's what I asked for --(it wasn't even that important to me - he could've just said no and I'd have been happy). Firstly, he literally only blowdried half my hair; and he was rough with my hair so the back half was frizzy af. Then, instead of using a round brush to blowdry my hair, he starts curling the bottom 4-5 inches of it with a curlilng iron. I have really long hair so I couldnt tell what he was doing for a while. But I spoke up like 2-3 times telling him this isn't what I wanted but he said it would turn out fine. He also didn't use any heat protectant DESPITE me asking for it twice. I ended up looking so horrible. Stick straight hair at the top and 2-3 full curls at the very bottom of my hair. It looked straight up dumb. When it was done, I spoke up and said this isn't what I asked for -- I wanted him to straighten out the curls and do something about the frizz in the back of my hair, but not only did he not offer, but he was rude about the whole thing. I was in tears at this point and mumbled "I'm going to have to go home and wash this out." And he goes, "Yeah, go home." Then he repeated that a bunch. I felt humiliated and insulted. I angry-cried and I know he saw it and he still just told me to leave. He kept saying he wasn't charging me for the curling. HAH!!! I didn't ask for the curling AND it looked absolute shit! I wouldn't have paid for it. I did tip him btw, and still question whether I should have. When I finally washed it out, I noticed that my haircut wasn't what I asked for either. I asked for a 2 inch trim and some layers. He cut 3 inches in the front and not at all in the back! My layers ended up being really far apart because of this. I had to trim it myself. I have been going to this salon for quite a while now. I just have to say the hairdressers there are wonderful. They take the time to do exactly what you want. They check and double check your coloring and cut. The woman who washes your hair is so friendly and gives the best hair washing along with a great shoulder massage afterward. I had an emergency, where I had to get my hair done asap. I went into A1 because they were the only place open (and that wasn't booked full) on a Sunday morning. I showed the male stylist a photo of how I envisioned my hair (slight, loose updo, with very loose curls). He proceeds to curls my entire head Shirley Temple style. Mid-way through, I'm thinking this can't be right, and asks if he wanted to see a picture of the hair style again. He barely spoke English, but he brushed me off and assured me he knew what he was doing. After he was done, I told him, "No, this is not at all what I want," and then he proceeds to ignore my direction and plays with my hair how he pleases. After tearing up in the seat, right in front of him, he starts putting sparkly, pink hair flower decorations in my hair-- as if that was going to make everything better. Bottom line is, I would never ever ever EVER go here again. read more

i was heading to walmart few days ago, and this new place really caught my attention driving by, since i needed a hair cut anyways, i figure i might as well give this place a try. from the look of this place from the street, i thought i would get a sticker shock when i walked in, but man, was i wrong. for a guy's cut & shampoo only cost me $16 right after i walked in the door, i was greeted by arlene, the receptionist with a warm & sweet smile, later i found out that she's my shampoo girl ... initially i was going to pass up on the shampoo, but she insisted that it will make alot differences for the stylist and the result will be noticeably visible .. i gave in, since it was only few dollars more.. she first washed my hair & gave a great scalp massage while at it, and right after i got up, she gave me this mini shoulder/back massage that is out of this world ... jacky was my stylist, and he really knows his stuff, i originally just wanted my the back and side of my head clipped & top trimmed, but instead i got a little styling consult from him and he cut my hair according to the shape of my face&body, and not just by using the generic #3 clipper like i've used to in the past after everything was said and done, i feel like a million bucks ..i tipped both jacky & arlene very well, which i don't usually do, but simply the atmosphere, decor, and the staff's attitude, i just wanted to make sure they're taken care of .. since then, i've been gotten alot more compliments on my hair, definitely feeling very metro now read more

Went there because it is close to my house and needed a quick cut. I walked in and they insisted to get shampoo. The shampooing was the best part of the trip. She massaged my head and shoulders while shampooing. After that I got a rude hair dresser. Asked for a simple 2 on sides and 4 on top. He missed half the front off of my head. He also cut my beard which made me Breakout all around my neck. I then notice the beard was crooked when I got home. I would not recommend this place to anyone read more

Just came back from my friend wedding dinner in ny and just cannot wait to write this review to compliment both hair stylists in the salon. Kudos!!! I moved to north east few weeks ago and before I was having hair cut in central Phily. I was so rush did not have the luxury (40mints drive) to central Phily to have my hair setup. First impression that when i walked into the salon was the place completely renovated - i mean decent professional design feel. I do not recall the real name of receptionist, "ling ling" nickname instead. She was politely greeting and asking what kind of services i need today. I then promptly replied her that I got only 45mints for you guys and rushing to ny for my best friend wedding dinner. she then took me to hair shampoo hair and did a 15mints hair wash + massage. oh yeah, i mean a real head massage while washing my hair. I was so relaxing but at the same time nervous because i told her i got only 30mints left for the hair stylist. She calmed me down and said do not worry, their hair designer were very professional and will get it done on time. She was so nice and offered me a cup of coke to drink (well, i guess her intention was to calm me down and pull my concentration away from the timing). the senior hair stylist - jacky (hopefully i did not spell his name wrong because i lose his name card) did a tremendous job on my hair. I kept heard that besides the bridegroom, my hair style was the best and sharp. because of that, i happened to get some phone numbers in the wedding :). I was so surprised that being for only 16. Yes 16 - 15mints hair shampoo + massage + hair cut + hair style design. I don't think i would try other salons in north east phily unless i move. Kudos to Jacky and A1 Salon !!! read more
