Being preggos, I've been suffering from low back pain, shoulder pain and carpal tunnel in both hands the past month. The pain and numbness in my hands got so annoying I looked on yelp for help. I came across this business after searching for pregnancy massage. With good reviews and being close to my house, I called to see if I could make an appointment. My phone call was returned almost immediately and I was able to get a next day appointment. When I went to my appointment, Kara greeted me at the door. She did an initial consultation and asked where my sore spots are. She then worked her magic hands on me. She hit those sore spots on point with strong pressure. Even though it hurt, I actually like the pain knowing I'll feel better in the end. No pain, no gain. She took care of me knowing I'm pregnant, having me lay on my side while she worked on me. I was amazed after, for my hands felt normal for the first time in a long time. No pain, no numbness! My shoulder also didn't ache, my lower back pain was gone. She even massaged my feet and legs (thank goodness I went home first and washed off my toe jams). She's a super nice person and incorporates her business with charitable work within the community. I decided to treat myself to another pre-natal massage at about 34 weeks. I checked out yelp, and Kara's reviews were so positive that I thought she'd be someone I could trust. I left her a voicemail, then forgot about it for a few days, until she texted me back to make sure that I got her voicemail - oops, I'm terrible at checking voicemails! Anyway, the one concern I had was that it was at her home - it feels weird going into a stranger's house by myself - but she was incredibly sweet and told me a lot about her family on the phone that I felt comfortable about going there. Plus, she had an opening the very next day, a perfect day after a 3 day weekend, end of the work day treat to me! There was plenty of free street parking available. Her house was also easy to find using my phone gps. The 75 minute massage was amazing - SUPER strong pressure, despite laying on my side most of the time. I always thought that you need the massage table and the use of gravity for a really deep massage, but Kara proved that wrong! It was probably the strongest massage I've ever had! I LOVE strong massages - seriously, I don't want to pay for someone to just rub my back! I don't know how she's able to keep the pressure so strong for so long, but I really appreciated her hard work and effort to make sure that my aches and pains were resolved. I don't think I've ever had a 75 minute massage before, but it went by super quickly. The low cost is really amazing. Other reviewers mentioned how Kara's able to make her massages more affordable due to them being at her house, but I wasn't sure if her prices went up. Her price was REALLY good, I don't want to advertise it because it was a special (she didn't tell me on the phone, but she later explained the price was discounted if you bring in new/slightly used stuffed animals/books for kids waiting to see the judge for Family Court child abuse/neglect hearings, a cause most dear to my heart). She still gave me the special price, even though I didn't bring the stuffed animals, though I dropped them off a couple of weeks later. I'm so grateful that she's supporting these deserving children. She also supports other very worthy causes and makes it so easy for her clients to also share in her passions and wonderful causes. I also appreciated that she accepts credit cards (though I need to remember to bring enough cash for tip). I'm already hoping that I don't go into labor too early so I have an excuse to get one more prenatal massage. And if I get an appointment scheduled for 39 weeks, I'll ask that she massage the areas that are known to naturally induce labor! read more

The location is odd (it's at her house), but from a business standpoint--I guess it makes sense (less overhead). I tried this place out because I bought my dad a massage and he didn't like it. So I used the other voucher (originally for my mom) to get an idea of what he considers a bad massage. So I went in to this appointment with low expectations. Kara is very sweet and seems to really care about her clients. I went in for a prenatal massage and I liked that she warned me which spots she would avoid to not induce labor. I really appreciated this (gave me an idea what to expect, eg. light pressure and no work on my normal/non-pregnant spots to massage) and this gave the impression she knew what she was doing. During the beginning of the massage, she was chatty--but I didn't mind this because I felt chatty too. I thought her technique was odd: she seemed to flutter around but eventually honed in to the knots she found. She didn't go as hard/deep as I can take (but I didn't request for her to go deeper since I felt like having a light massage that day--and to work out the kinks from my flight into Hawaii). BUT... OMG... the day after the massage I was sore! This was proof she was able to work the muscles along my back and the muscle constricting my sciatic nerve. It felt great the next day. I wish I could go to her more often but she's in Hawaii. If you're on the west side of O'ahu and want a decent massage, try this place out. It's no frills (no spa experience since it's at her house), but she works you out. read more

I looked up Kara at A Time To Heal on Yelp for a certified prenatal massusse and also something close to home. I was lucky to have found her. She is literally right down the street from me. Kara does her massages in her home. It wasn't weird in any way to me at all. She has a room dedicated to massage with a professional massage table, relaxing music, and cold and hot towels/stones. She lets you choose between three different oils: lavender, eucalyptus and orange. She had prepped all the comfy pillows that are needed for a prenatal massage, and did her magic for 75 minutes. The massage was amazing and relaxing. Kara knew the right amount of pressure, and which side to lay down that would benefit the baby's breathing. Kara has a nice, mellow personality that puts you at ease. Once leaving I felt my muscles were much looser, and my neck and back were feeling much better. Three days later, my neck still feels a lot better, considering I have 3 herniated discs in my neck. The price is very fair, and I'd definitely make these massages part of my monthly ritual. read more

I found Kara via Yelp. I been looking for a reputable massage therapist that has experience with prenatal massage considering #1 I'm 37 weeks pregnant and #2 my standards being a massage therapist myself. After reviewing her website I was instantly drawn in because of her extensive work being in the medical field and her giving the gift of massage to previous and current cancer patients, which was really dear to my heart being a caregiver for my aunty while she battled and lost her fight to stage 3 breast cancer, I picked up the phone and called. I got to her home a quarter to 9:00 knowing on a Saturday morning knowing I would have to fill some papers out, basic "where do you hurt?" and medical history stuff. She had aromatherapy oils out so that I could choose which ones I would like during the massage. Her calmness and sincerity is wonderful and I instantly felt comfortable. Keep in mind the massage is 75 minutes long and does not start until she starts massaging you, not when you get there. All for $55!!! BONUS BONUS BONUS! She led me to her massage room and put some eucalyptus oil on the sheets, I get stuffy during a massage, and it smelt nice and it wasn't too much. She left the room and got ready. She informed me to lay on my right side which would allow the best amount of oxygen to my body and the baby (which I knew) and was glad she reminded me of that. When she came back into the room she put a cold compress on my ankles so they wouldn't get swollen. During the massage she used hot stones, and all the massage modalities you can think of. I was so impressed and happy with my experience, I probably won't go to any one else even post birth. My massage went over 75 min, yes I was watching the time, because she wanted to make sure she worked all my problem area's. Kara is FABULOUS! I was on vacation and needed a good massage to stay feeling good and stress-free. I started looking for therapists both on Yelp and other referrals. The reviews on YELP were so good, I decided to give Kara a call. She was able to see me on pretty short notice, was very open to hearing about what areas were giving me problems and how my normal therapists address them, sharing her own thoughts on what might work well. Her prices are very reasonable (she was running a special if you donated to the Hawaii Meth Project when I was there) and she has a great touch. I loved the aromatherapy and the setting. Kara is very professional and I loved the different modalities of therapy she provides. I found Cara on Yelp, was so glad that she's located so close to my home! Certain times of the year, Cara runs various Special's that benefit two shelters (canned goods, back to school, Christmas, etc), she offers you a special rate if you donate items to her current drive. It's a win win for all! Now onto the massage. Cara sits down with you to find out the general problem areas you'd like her to focus on, if you're a return client; she has your previous info, select one of her many oils (lavender is my favorite), when you're done; she gives you a cup of water and goes over her findings & recommendations for future care, all of this is not a part of your massage time!!! Cara's massages are so awesome, she knows the right amount of pressure to use, her massage room is very clean with a tranquil setting! Cara's schedule is open to her clients needs. However, she is located in a residential area, once I took a 600pm appointment, it was hard to find street parking and the owner's of the house I parked by seemed very territorial with the open space in front of their house! The best experience I've ever had! Kara is the best at what she does. First when I got there, she welcomed me in her home with open arms. Sat me down and asked me before we started what area of my body I would like her to work on today. I explained to her how painful my entire back was and other areas that were being affected by my back pain. (my legs and neck). Then she told me what she'll try to do to ease the pain. She told me the position she wanted me to start in which was to lay on my right side so she can work out the knots on that particular area(my left lower back and shoulder) that hurt the most and to avoid making my pain less easy as she massaged my back. She then brought me into the room, by the way it was very clean and calming to be in. Then got started massaging my back. She worked out the most painful parts and continuously asked me how my back was feeling. Usually at other massage parlors I've been to, they only work the area you want for a few minutes and then proceed to do other areas that you don't want to focus on. But Karen made sure she worked on everything I wanted, my back, legs, shoulders, and neck. Oh and I forgot to mention I got a foot scrub too. That was apart of her special this month. She is very lovely and amazing at what she does. My back in no longer as painful as it was before. And at the end she added some tips that can help my back pain get better. Kara is amazing from beginning to end. I was looking for a new massage place in Kapolei and had left her a message on her phone. She returned my call the next day but by that time I had already purchased a groupon at another place in town. :( I know that technology seems to remove interaction between people but when you're busy like I am, sometimes it just makes life easier. We communicated through text messaging and she had even text to confirm the morning of my appointment. I was REALLY busy at my other job so I appreciated being able to respond back via text rather than calling back to confirm like some businesses request to do. Plus it feels more personalized to me. Anyway, she is my new FAVORITE. She sits you down for a consultation and to sign the proper paperwork. She asked me about where my sore spots were and how I like my pressure. Since I'm picky but LOVE massages, I'm not exactly an "even pressure all around" type of gal. She was amazing. She remembered everything that I said and was gentle where I had asked. She focused in all areas I told her I was feeling pain and EXTRA focused on my sore feet, which I know aren't the easiest areas to massage. After a weekend of being on my feet, it felt great! There was conversation but not too much to where I couldn't relax. I completely regret getting that groupon now because why travel to town for a decent deal when I can just drive down the road for a great experience?! I would recommend seeing Kara at her home... unless it means less availability for ME to book with her. My husband and I got massages here on our honeymoon. They were amazing. Before the massages they took us back in the quiet spa area and soaked our feet. The girls brought us water and were so nice and friendly. They offered to take some pictures of us relaxing, they offered tons of tips for places to visit. When the masseuses were ready they took us back into the rooms and we each had a 50 minute full body massage. It was so relaxing and amazing. So, ive been going to Kara for about 5 years now ever since I got injured on the job. I just recently seen her last week friday. She is awesome as usual. Yes, she does run her business out of her home but i feel the atmosphere that she presents is just as good as any spa Ive been to. She has relaxing music, mood lighting and the aroma therapy scents of name brand essential oils. The only thing that could possibly make this experience any better is if she had an ocean in her backyard, lol! She's very knowledgeable in massage and knows what type of pressure my body needs especially for the type of work i do, which is very physical.
