The steak was perfect (well it should be as I cooked it). It is so much fun to have a hot stone placed in front of you and you get to sear your steak to perfection. I ordered a fillet and the cut of meat was just beautiful. For €22 the ability to cook table side and have a hot bite ready to melt in your mouth on demand is fun and yummy This delicious chunk of meat came with a baked potato and vegetables which I also tossed on the stone after I cooked my steak. The plate came with some dipping sauces and garlic butter. I asked for more garlic butter and cooked everything in it. It was so delicious and the wine list gives you many paring options, but being in Portugal even the house wine is amazing. This area albufera is not for the faint of heart. This is a crazy party zone so go early in the evening if you want some easy people watching and later in the evening if you want to see some really crazy antics. Service is fast and the waiters are attentive.

Although down a star, Look remains in my top 5 Luz restaurants. After a week with the other half's…read morefamily, staying in a large villa 5 minutes away from the centre of the town, we headed to Look for a quite night together. We booked during the day, though it wasn't necessary on this occasion, but totally recommended if you're visiting during peak times i.e. weekends and summer. The decor hasn't changed dramatically, with a modern feel that can feel at odds with the surrounding natural beauty of Luz, but helps to make it stand out. It has changed managerial hands since our last visit, but is still owned by the butcher of Baptista (the local supermarket) so the meat and food quality was on par with our last visit. Our waiter was super friendly, explaining that it was his first night, but there was really no need as he was spot on throughout the night. We started with the grilled goat's cheese and some seared scallops. The goat's cheese was overdressed in my opinion, with strawberries and pineapple, taking away from the actual simple beauty of the dish. The scallops were tasty, on a simple bed of grated carrot and salad leaves, but there was too much oil on the plate to fully enjoy the dish. Onto mains, it would just be rude not to go for the steak! I had the fillet and the other half went for the rib eye, both cooked medium rare, with the standard side of vegetables and 'steakhouse potatoes' i.e. chips. We were both going to have the peppercorn sauce but were recommended the mushroom along with the pepper and were more than happy to listen - really glad we did as the mushroom actually turned to be the best! The chips were a bit of a disappointment in my opinion as they weren't anything special, but the vegetables with garlic were very tasty, and the steak was simply perfect. It's quality meat cooked perfectly, and everything we had remembered. We were both stuffed at the end so no desserts, but a white port on the house - very much the style of Luz - was the perfect finisher offer.

Service was like any other European restaurant. As far as the food comes, it delivered! For bread and butter-my favorite was the orange butter because I wasn't expecting the flavor to come through so well. We started off with the scallops which were cooked to perfection. The prawns in a piri piri sauce had a kick, but nothing overwhelming. I ordered the monkfish and prawn curry-you could taste the coconut. My friend ordered the lamb and that might have been my favorite amongst them. It was so moist and had such good flavor. Almost like a bbq but not so sweet. As far as dessert goes, the creme brûlée was a miss for me. The top lay offered the perfect crack, but underneath it felt too sweet and eggier than most creme brûlées I have had. Now what really sold me was the house dessert. It was so light, fluffy and not overly sweet. The sweet potato fries were so crispy that my friend gave it the highest compliment of saying it didn't need a sauce.

I have seldom had more fun eating than at Fernandos Stone Steak house, in Carvoeiro, Portugal…read more Maybe it was the fact I was on holiday - maybe it was the company - maybe it was the freely flowing Portugese beer - but I didn't think that going to a restaurant and then essentially preparing and cooking your own dinner was going to be a barrel of laughs. But it was. It works like this: you are presented with a very hot stone slab, and some raw meat of your choice. The meat can also be prepared with various marinations and methods, but the underlying theme is that it's ready to be cooked. Add a dash of the sauce of your choice, a small amount of garlic butter to the slab (and watch in horror as the table is surrounded by acrid smoke) slice off a little meat, and get cooking. I chose the medley selection, consisting of chicken, pork and steak. All of the meat was fantastic - not an ounce of fat or gristle to be seen. The steak was wonderful - the very fact you could control each tender mouthful - one rare, the next well done, and then apply the sauce of your choice. There were 10 of us at the restaurant - and the waiters were open and friendly. For a while we tried to work out if the owner was German, but then, distracted by some fantastic garlic prawns, the topic was dropped. If you are holidaying in the area - it's worth making a trip to Carvoiero and Fernandos. The atmosphere was lovely, and you'll find your meat cooked to perfection.
