Like other reviewers, I noticed a very large amount of political stickers on display. I had a coupon and was unaware of this before I set foot on site. I believed, however, that the business would continue to treat me professionally with respect. I am saddened and baffled by some of the owner's comments to previous reviews. My car drives very well; the only outstanding issue, we believe, is that the hybrid battery is not fully charged. I consulted with my mechanic and we are going to go for a second opinion. The service was fast and the price was OK I guess. I'll see what another smog tech thinks. read more

I've gone here before and they've done a good job. But when I showed up today there was a super weird sign on the door that told Biden voters to basically F off and die, and then one of the loose dogs that hang out at the garage ran out into the road and almost got hit chasing a motorcycle. The whole vibe was pretty surreal (and sketchy), so I left and went down the street to another place. ** Oct 2022 Update: Please see the owner's response to my original review. Friendly, easy-going and honest people here. Easy to find/access location. It was easy to drop in for a smog or come in for an appointment. Came in for two vehicles this week (first a drop in, second day with an appointment) and they accommodated us immediately and were done within a half hour. I felt the waiting room was big enough to be appropriately "socially distant." There was a plastic cover (think sneeze guard) in place at the counter with enough room to slide the smog paperwork through, which was appropriate for covid-era precautions. Comparable smog prices here as well. I will definitely be coming back in the future. read more

$117 for a smog check is outrageous. I made the mistake of signing the contract before checking the price. My bad. When I said I'd prefer to take my business elsewhere the employee simply brushed past me, got in my car and drove it into the shop despite me telling him not to. read more

The smog test was completed and done as expected. However, multiple signs indicated that if you did not have the same political beliefs that you should take your business elsewhere. There were also signs that implied if you were not white that you were not welcome. I would have taken my business away had I not been on a timeline. read more

I made an appointment over the phone for an $86 Smog check. Then I found a deal elsewhere for $40. When I called to cancel the appointment 3 hours in advance, the man over the phone was rude. Way over-priced smog check and rude customer service. I didn't even end up going and would never plan on it in the future.... After writing my review here is the private message I received from the business: "I was not rude to you. I plainly stated that it wasn't very courteous of you to make an appointment, and then start price shopping. I'm glad you found something that's affordable for you, maybe now you can work on your manners. Considering you took the time to post a 1 star review based solely on me calling you out for uncourteous behavior, I doubt that will happen." Case in point. read more

I've used A+ many times with okay results. This last smog, they did not send the certificate to the DMV and would not help remedy the problem nor would they print a duplicate certificate. At the very least they could have offered to re-smog to produce the certificate I could send to the DMV. Now I'm being forced to have the car retested and pay again at another facility (it did pass at A+ BTW). Unfortunately, I will not be using nor recommending them again. Message to A+; this is why people like using local businesses, for good service! To be turned away with a "sorry, I can't help you" really is a reflection on how they value their customers... New location and a vast improvement from the previous. They were able to smog test my car without an appt on the day I went and it was a very fast half hour. The $20 Yelp check-in offer makes me wonder why they don't just lower their prices, but given the convenience and friendly service, I'm not complaining. There is a nice waiting room w/ a vending machine. There are books and magazines to select while you wait, and a clear view out to Aero Drive. The bathroom was very clean and tidy. There is also a water dispenser at the front counter, if you don't want to pay for sodas, etc. I'll likely choose them next year, when I have to have my old car smogged, again. read more

Called on a Friday and the very polite gentleman on the phone was able to get me an appointment for the next day, a last minute Saturday appointment! Arrived Saturday at the same time as a few walk-in customers, and they were able to help us all. Having an appointment got me in and out of there really quickly. Our technician, Tyler, was friendly and helpful. They have some really good coupons on their website and in the Value-Pak mailers if you can schedule an appointment for a Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday (which I will try and allow myself time to do next time!) I highly recommend A+ Smog, and will be returning the next time I need a smog check done. I do have a lot of professional background with the Automotive Industry, among others, having been a Consultant for many Businesses in my 'Former Life'. I always make an appointment, but in years past when I haven't they were very accommodating when they could be. Conrad and others are always very polite, courteous and genuinely appreciative of their Customers! These folks are honest, straight up...don't try to sell you another service which they could easily do unless you inquire. Unlike many who I have seen review this establishment, I did not receive a discount for doing so. I say this not because I am upset, but because I would like people to know they did not solicit this review. I scheduled my appointment and was informed that I should download and print a coupon and save myself about $20 (my car is older, you may get $40 off!) I would not have known, and would have ended up paying full price had he not let me know to do so while I was on the phone. They took care of me in a polite and timely manner. I would guess from the time I walked through the door to the time I drove away was about 30 minutes. It was a smooth running clean operation and I appreciated the timely test! read more

Have used A+ Smog on Aero Drive several years for both our vehicles. Location is clean, service is friendly and prompt. Only complaint is that they have decided NOT TO HONOR their $20 OFF coupons during Covid-19 shelter in place. Total cost for a 2000 vehicle was $95 read more

No masks. Charged for a no pass. Wouldn't have been a big deal but, check engine light was on prior to smog. Apparently most places tell you to fix your engine light before attempting a smog. Basically, charged twice. At least they applied the original coupon discount. Didn't wipe down the steering wheel like other business. Had to do that myself. read more

After bringing my car and my Husband's truck to A+ Smog for several years, I was selling my 2003 Saturn to a couple in Santa Rosa. After being told that there was a cheaper place in Santa Rosa which was also closer for the people that bought the car, we made an appointment there instead of A+. Sure enough it was right down the street for them and it was definitely cheaper. I sent them there to get the car smog checked so we could do DMV paperwork. Much to my total surprise they called and said the car didn't pass and they wanted to charge me not only the $40 for the smog but $110 to diagnose the problem. I called A+ in a total panic because the car had just passed smog 6 months earlier and had never failed smog since I bought it 11 years ago. Conrad was about to close but said please bring it in. He re-ran the smog and it passed with flying colors. I will never try the cheaper/more convenient place again. I trust Tyler & Condrad and A+ Smog. Went in to get my smog checked. We didn't pass the smog and they said they would do an inspection and repair of the vehicle. They never found anything and they didn't repair anything but surprisingly the smog passed the second time with some strange explanation that "that just happens sometimes when carbon gets caught yada yada yada" $500 later. The more impressive thing is that they quoted us $500 assuming something was wrong but nothing was wrong and it was still $500. All just labor. After reading some of the reviews I noticed there were quite a few like mine. Seems fishy considering every reply they have is "we just might be out of your price range" and "we've never been in trouble with the better business bureau". We will never be back. I've never had a smog be so ridiculously expensive. Like $500 more expensive since we already paid $100 for the initial check. And... when there is literally nothing wrong apparently. Sounds like they just expected to get $500 out of us regardless. Maybe it's time the better business bureau should get in there and take a look? read more

Incredibly bad experience. Rude and infantile staff. The manager shouldn't be in any business setting requiring interaction with the public. I declined service after seeing up charges on the invoice that I did not sign. There was absolutely no work or service performed on my vehicle at that point. I said I would go elsewhere for a smog. They refused to return my car and held it it hostage for 45 minutes ,refusing to return my property. I had to call the Sherriff to get my car released. The deputy had to threaten the manager with jail if did not return my car. Who in their right mind behaves in that way? Mean spirited and totally disrespectful! How does a business like this stay open. No rational explainable reason for this insane behavior. Would NOT recommend this business to anyone! Went elsewhere had a great respectful and smog done in 15 minutes. Go anywhere except A+ Smog. Should rename it F MINUS Smog ! What a unbelievable nasty experience. read more
