While this place has been here since 1962, the first time I came was in 1993. I love it here because it is a classic, old-school restaurant, between the decor, the waiters and the grill as you walk in. The service has gone downhill a bit over the last couple of years, but I find that if you connect with your waiter when you finally get him to your table, he will check on you more often. They have a great wine list as well. The steaks are some of the best I have had, and I love that they bring your steak on a steel plate over a charcoal fire- do not let them take the grill- I love putting the fat on there to render away and then ladle it over my steak- so much better than butter! The fries are to die for, as is the Morcilla- so good and creamy- if you like that! I am usually too full for dessert, but I recently had their ice cream- so good and creamy!

Thank goodness for Goggle Translate, we were able to fully understand the menu and communicate with our waiter. The restaurant is very authentic and has an open grilling area for client viewing. Did Don Julio's live up to the hype?…read more Can any restaurant ranked #10 in the world by World's Best Restaurants -- and crowned #1 steakhouse three consecutive years -- truly live up to its reputation? I'd say yes, and then some. A word of advice: sit inside. That's where the magic happens. The open-flame grills roaring indoors create an incredible ambiance -- intimate, lively, and unlike anything else. The outdoor seating is charming in its own right (cozy blankets draped over every chair), but the interior is the real experience. Service was exceptional. Before we even ordered, our waiter personally walked us through the kitchen to introduce us to the various cuts on display -- a thoughtful touch that made the whole meal feel like an event. We settled on the ribeye and one other cut, with the ribeye stealing the show: thick, juicy, and cooked to perfection over open flame. To top it all off, the meal came with complimentary champagne, chorizo, empanadas, and dessert -- generous extras that made an already outstanding dinner feel truly special.

This was one of the things I was most looking forward to on this trip, and I made a reservation through our hotel months in advance. Fantastic meal overall. The steaks were great. Service was on point right from the beginning when they gave us wine and yummy corn empanadas when we arrived. The chocolate-covered dulce de leche at the end was delectable.

The lighting made the ambiance very cool, but still conversational. We ordered a bunch of items, but that included the short ribs, the creamed kale, the squash, the spinach fritters, and a provoletta. The meat was amazing! Cooked to perfection. Even our friend who is vegetarian tried and thought it was delicious. We loved everything, and did not have leftovers to take home. The natural wine was also a standout! So delicious and worth every drop. For a Michelin recommended restaurant it was standard, but truly a delicious and great meal.

The food was outstanding. We were tired of eating meat everyday and opted for pastas. We started with a bottle of Malbec and Meat Empanadas. The empanadas and accompanying chimichurri were excellent- probably the best we'd had in Buenos Aires. I chose the stuffed pasta. This was outstanding, right portioned and super tasty. Transported me to Italy. We ended with the decadent crepe with dulce de Leche. This was a letdown as the crepe was over cooked, but the dulce de Leche was delicious. Overall, a great experience and I would highly recommend. Total cost was around $80 for 2.

Los mejores choripanes en Buenos Aires!…read more Love this hole in the wall for 20 peso choripan (chorizo + pan), 35 peso vaciopan (vacio + pan), or a cup of red wine for a ridiculous 8 pesos. They've got a bunch of other items, too, sweating away on the grill (bondiola, morcilla, etc). The choripan is excellent. The vaciopan involves a huge slab of unexpectedly tender, fatty vacio (flank), though you'll need to salt the thing yourself. Chimichurri and salsa criolla in big tubs on the table are garlicky and herby, there more for the principle of it. When you get your wine, ask for "soda" - you'll get an old-timey siphon that spouts carbonated water into your wine. Sounds weird, but this was the best thing ever. If the youngish grillmaster (is this the famous Fredy?) isn't slapping together your choripan or raking the coals in the grill, he's chatting with his buddies who hang around the open entrance drinking beer. Yellowed notes left from worldwide visitors cover the walls. Worth a visit? Yes! Not only is it one of those fun, irreverent spots for good cheap food, the super old-school Argentinean wine with seltzer is a must-try!

This was my first time here but my mom has dined here before when she visited. Our server was a nice gentleman and older. Most of the staff was older and I liked that because I don't see that often when I dine out. Complimentary bread was provided. I did a house red and the server gave me a generous pour; it was deliciously smooth. My mom ordered grilled chicken (it was a huge portion) and a side salad (also pretty large portion). I ordered beef and chicken empanadas. I preferred the beef over the chicken but both were really tasty. The pastry was nice a flaky and the filling inside moist and flavorful. More food than we could possible eat. Skip the empanadas and go with the olives and skewer and you'll be full.
