Clarke's have a really good selection of meat wehther you like it sliced, diced, chucked, minced, casseroled, braised and the prices are not silly. The pork, beek and lamb I have bought from there has all been from Wales. The mince meat I had looked low in fat. Lamb is always my favourite. If you are not a great cook, its very hard to go wrong with a pre prepared lamb kebab on the skewer with different coloured peppers. Their home made beef burgers are just 70p each. They are more than happy to give you the meaty facts if you want to go in and ask about what you are buying. Bon appetite.

I have lured into this shop on innumerable occasions and I'm always more than satisfied with the standard of service, the condition of the shop and of course the quality of the food. Longton Hall sell raw and cooked meats. The beef which is truly delicious has a minimum 21 day maturation guarantee and the sausages are award winning! Kebabs and burgers are available freshly prepared, ready to just pop on the BBQ and there's a delivery service so you don't even have to leave the house to collect them! The rotisserie chickens have to my favourite; they're ust so tasty! Piping hot or left to cool for salads and sandwiches the meat is so tender and juicy. nom nom. The are special end-of-day sales where unsold chiken is quartered and packaged and sold for about £1 a box, bargain!

The shop from the outside and inside looks and acts very much like you'd expect a traditional butchers shop to, with slices and legs of meat on show all around the shop and in the window. Their meat is fresh and delicious, offering local residents good quality products at very affordable prices that give the local supermarkets (and the butchers down the road) a run for its money. The staff in there are very friendly and helpful as well, meaning a trip to K & K is always a pleasant one.

Gillions in Crosby is an odd sort of place. From the outside, it just looks like a glorified…read moreconvenience store, larger than usual and generally a bit more open. When you enter though, you realise that it's more like the Selfridges food court than the local One Stop. In here, they stock various different types of goods, including bread, freshly cut meats, drinks and other home essentials. The 'essentials' might not always be your usual kind (a bit more upmarket), but they're essential nonetheless. As it's an independent store, the prices are a bit steeper than if you went to your local supermarket, but by buying from there you are supporting a local business, something which Crosby is struggling to uphold currently. The staff in there are friendly enough and attentive, but I did find the layout of the shop a bit confusing when it comes to paying; the till by the door was unmanned and the only other staff were behind the deli counters, meaning I was unsure where to actually pay for my goods. One member did eventually come over however, crisis averted. They also do catering for events, which I have had the pleasure of sampling (though not paying for, thankfully).

However. I was in need of a christmas gift for a dear grandmother of mine, rather desperately as I had left shoppng rather late, and just days before the big day, I popped to Gilleons delicattessen. Some months earlier I had purchased some unusual cheeses from a delicattessen in lake district and, as Granny had polished those off delightedly, I thought a nice cheese board would go down well over a game of Christmas scrabble or during Poirot. The cheeses were quite unusual, stilton and blueberry and camembert with something, nuts or raisins.. anyway it went down extremely well, Granny even thought I'd been back to the lakes for it, which shows the quality of the produce sold here! I must say I was surprised by the interior of the store, Gilleons has always appealed from the pavement with it's striped window canopies and chalk board it looks so quaint and inviting, inside however it's a little minimartish, it's clean and stocks a good deal of essentials and extras, but it lacks character. Also, the staff were suprisingly inattentive, the cheese deli server was decidedly miserable and the cashier continued a conversation over my head, barely acknowledging my presence or purchase: no bag and no 'thankyou'. A little rude.

You can grab a cut of meat, or you can have it all marinated and cooked up and ready to go. This place has been open for forever, I think. They obviously work hard because they always seem to be open, and there are always people inside. Prices are great, and staff are super friendly. Mmmm, mmm. Get your chicken!
