This is truly a family butchers, as most of the family are involved in the day-to-day business. They would deliver to us in time for the afternoon cooking session even when my wife forgot to order until after midnight! (They have an answerphone and act on the night's messages first thing in the morning. The few times we were even slightly disappointed in something, it was changed immediately. I would recommend Houghton's to any business interested in local, good quality cuts of meat.

They also sell veg and tinned produce. I'm not sure how much real butchering they do nowadays. I've asked for some lesser known cuts and have been told they don't do them. The back of the shop where most of the work is done is blocked off and I never trust what I can't see. (That is no reflection on hygiene, just my preference) They do source lots locally so should be commended for that All in all it does what you'd expect of this type of shop.

All laid out of ice beds and selection of all sorts of usual vegetables. Information boards to explain what different veg is. Rest of supermarket is same as always has been. Morrisons does seem to have a better meat section. I can get cuts of meat I can't get elsewhere.

Never had a bad cut of meat from here, (unlike the supermarket) very reasonable prices and no rubbish. They will cut you any size of joint, score the pork correctly, make there own sausages, cut you a crown, anything. You cant get that in a supermarket either. The meat is always fresh and the shop is kept prestine whenever you call in. In summer they do fresh bbq packs and all the trimmings, at Christmas they do the best pork and turkey I have ever tasted all localy produced meat. The guys in here are great, if they see you ones they will always say hello.
