Brittney was terrific and patient. She worked the best she could to work within our time constraints. Justin was super fast to come measure to get us rolling. The installers cleaned up everyday (actually as they went through room to room).
Here are some tips to make your experience smooth:
1 Research! Learn what words mean and how and if they should apply to your project. Underlayment. Do not assume this is done. Ask. Your house will have hollow sounding spots all over without it. According to another company we had inspect while measuring for another project, this could weaken the locking grooves over time (longer than the warranty).
2. Ask how they will take care of nonlevel areas. Between areas of former carpet and linoleum that isn't removed, you could have areas that feel lumpy or air pockets to bare feet.
3. Research acclimating your planks and how long. They are not acclimated if brought in sealed boxes to the project the morning of the start of install. I tried offering to come pick up to do this, but that didn't seem necessary to them. That may, too, attribute to the hollow sounding and unlevel areas.
4. Problem solve all heavy furniture and appliances ahead of time. The installers are put in a difficult predicament when they hurt themselves moving the first heavy piece. Measure heavy items and have a plan of how to move them. Even if the person that measures says they will move things, they won't if they change their mind or are hurt from moving the first piece of heavy furniture. Honestly, just hire some teens to come help move. It helped us after day 1 to lighten the load on the installers. We ended moving everything else except one item that couldn't leave the room. It was just slid over to the finished part of the room. Everything else, we moved for them and moved all furniture very carefully back for them.
Without your planning ahead, you could find yourself alone trying to problem solve and move things alone while they wait for you. They will not demo the next empty room while you problem solve. They will just give you 30 minutes and threaten to leave for the day even if it is only noon.
5. Ask to keep the extra boxes that you paid for or they will just take them. You may need them in the future to fix things.
