Finding a good nursing home is very important because older people need a safe and caring place to…read morelive. In my opinion, Maplewood Senior Living is one of the best nursing homes because it provides excellent care, friendly staff, fun activities, and a comfortable environment for its residents. Families want to know their loved ones are safe and happy, and Maplewood works hard to make that happen every day. One reason Maplewood is the best nursing home is because the nurses and workers are kind and helpful. The staff members help residents with daily tasks like eating, taking medicine, and moving around safely. They are trained to care for older adults and make sure everyone feels respected and comfortable. This helps residents feel less lonely and more supported. Another reason Maplewood stands out is because of the activities it offers. Residents can play games, exercise, do arts and crafts, and attend social events. These activities help people stay active and make new friends. Staying busy and social is important for mental and physical health, especially for elderly people living away from home. Maplewood also provides clean rooms and healthy meals for the residents. The building is designed to feel warm and welcoming instead of cold or boring. Residents can enjoy comfortable living spaces and nutritious food that helps keep them healthy. A clean and positive environment makes people feel happier and more relaxed. In conclusion, Maplewood is the best nursing home because it offers caring staff, enjoyable activities, and a safe and comfortable place to live. The workers truly care about the residents and help them enjoy their lives every day. Families can trust Maplewood to take good care of their loved ones, which is why many people think it is an excellent nursing home.

My father spent the final 2.5 years of his life at St. John's. While we were initially relieved he…read morewas placed here, we soon discovered that the "community-centered" reputation is a facade. St. John's has dropped from a 3-star to a 1-star Medicare rating, and my family's experience confirms why. Critical Medical Neglect & Safety Risks Dietary Hazards: Despite being a stroke survivor with aspiration risks, my father was frequently served non-pureed food and thin liquids with no staff present to assist. This was a direct threat to his life. Medical Emergency Failure: When my father was struggling to breathe with low blood pressure, nurses dismissed it. They failed to notify us when he stopped eating or when a failed IV attempt left him untreated. We had to insist on a hospital transfer; St. John's refused to call 911, opting for a private transport that took 2 hours. He arrived at the hospital septic and passed away two days later. Hygiene & Infestations: The facility is infested with mice. I witnessed multiple mice running through the living area. The dining room was filthy and plagued by fruit flies. Management & Staffing Issues Callous Management: When I brought safety concerns to an upper-level manager, his response was: "You haven't shared anything that I don't already know. If you want to move him, I have lots of people who would like his bed." Neglectful Environment: Aides are frequently on their phones, ignoring residents. My father sometimes wore the same clothes for days. Residents would beg me for help because they knew the staff would not respond. Lack of Activity: Memory care residents are often left sitting in front of a TV or alone in rooms. There are virtually no activities on weekends. The "Two-Tier" Reality Do not be fooled by the beautiful courtyard or the locked "Day Program" rooms. Those resources and the higher level of care seem reserved for the private-pay or rehab floors. In the long-term memory care unit, the environment is one of "waiting to die." Summary: While a few select nurses, chaplains, and security guards are kind, they cannot compensate for a systemic culture of indifference and unsafe conditions. The funeral director noted that since COVID, "no one there seems to care." I would not recommend St. John's to anyone who loves their family member. St. John's: Do better.

After hip replacement, I went for rehabilitation. Rehab patients and long term patients are…read moretreated exactly the same. Instead of promoting my independence, the lack of sufficient nursing staff caused a lack of autonomy and individuality. Unreasonable wait to be assisted to the bathroom. One time, I waited 3 hours. I waited 6 hours for pain medication because it was "forgotten". Not acceptable. The call button was put out of my reach. Most direct care staff are wonderful and doing the best they can for patients. Meals are simply awful. Not much is made in the kitchen. When the menu said "banana bread", I imagined a fragrant slice. What it turned out to be was a commercially prepared, sealed plastic bag with a greasy piece of something inedible. I self discharged after 4 days. I do not recommend this place. Still have nightmares about it.

The problem is not with the nurses, therapists or aides. The problem is with the incompetent and u responsive nursing home administrator, physician, department heads (nursing and social work). The prescriptions written by the physician at Fairport nursing and Rehab are not worth the paper they are written on. In fact, Wegmans pharmacy will not fill prescriptions written by their physician because of her questionable prescription practices. The facility should be closed and the management face charges.

I will start by stating that the majority of the nurses and aides were caring and pleasant, however there were issues...some worse than others and I won't write about every one of them. My mom was there for a short amount of time on the 'rehab' floor. She sadly passed away at the end of April. The lack of consistency was concerning..the day staff and the night staff did not pass on information. I had raised issues and they would sometimes have no clue what had been told to or asked of the previous shift. The biggest problem was that due to the staff not following WRITTEN requests placed in plain view in my mom's room and MULTIPLE people being spoken to so many times that I cannot count, they lost one of a pair of hearing aids that cost $2000 (they were specialty ones because my mom was totally deaf in one ear. As if losing one wasn't bad enough, the aids she had were no longer made so to replace them both so she had FULL hearing, it would have cost me $2000! I cannot afford that.) The loss occurred in early MARCH and despite MULTIPLE verbal requests, MULTIPLE emails to their staff, including the medical director AND their administrator SEVERAL times, nothing has been done to address this loss. To make matters even worse (and unbelievable) in the last 2 weeks of her life there, they LOST her denture. Sounds crazy but it's true. That also has never been addressed nor any responsibility taken. The fact that my mom passed is irrelevant. I feel like they ignored it while she was alive as long as they could and now are dismissing it altogether. I have been ignored and outright lied to and dismissed by the staff about these problems. I am sorry that I have to write this review but it is so frustrating when a loss like this is IGNORED. And I have filed a formal complaint with the state.
