They were obviously someone's dogs given their cleanliness and collars but had no chips or phone numbers. We called DAS to take them in so someone could claim them. Immediately one went into "shelter shock" after all he had been thru and became aggressive. I called on Saturday and got a call back on Sunday being told that they don't put dogs down at this shelter. No one called or came to claim the dogs, so I went to visit them. I found them in small cages with their urine and feces! I gave the shelter ALL of my information and told them to put me on a last resort list for the aggressive one, because I knew he would come around with time and comfort. In less than a week THEY KILLED HIM instead! NEVER send any animals to this HELL HOLE! THEY DON'T CARE! THEY KILL ANIMALS! F the DAS !

I adopted a blind and diabetic Shih-Tzu July 31, 2022. She had been surrendered by a "backyard…read morebreeder." Maia is my first dog, and I am in my mid-seventies. Abby's foster mother took very good care of Maia until i adopted her. The dog was spayed, and dental work was done. She was filthy and overweight. The blindness resulted from untreated diabetes. Abby's charges an adoption fee, which was, in my experience, unusual for an animal with a chronic condition that requires further treatment and medication. I also objected to its being, IMO, high. But Maia required a good deal of medical care when she was surrendered, and the fee was to offset that. Maia is 6 years old. She is not in robust health; diabetes takes its toll on the body. She needs insulin injections twice a day. I chose to pay for her cataract surgery--both eyes--to restore her sight. Also hugely expensive. But she is a sweet and lovely dog, and I'm happy to have the experience.
