We ordered a custom copper-top dining table with black metal legs from Woodward Throwbacks in early…read moreJuly. The design process started off smoothly -- the team was friendly and helpful in finalizing the design. However, once we agreed on the table and paid in full upfront (something we were uncomfortable with but were assured was fine), everything went downhill. The original completion date was supposed to be mid-August, but there was almost no communication from the store about progress. I had to repeatedly reach out for updates, only to eventually learn that the company making the table base (outside of Michigan) had "stopped responding to their emails" for nearly a month. That delay pushed our project back significantly, with no clear timeline ever provided. When we were finally invited to see the finished table, the quality was disappointing. The metal legs had visible scratches, and the copper top had several imperfections -- bubbles in the surface (caused by uneven glue adhesive) and areas that looked like staples under the metal. When I pointed these out, the owner responded rudely, even asking, "Have you ever ordered custom furniture before? This isn't Wayfair." That comment was unnecessary and unprofessional, especially after spending over $3,000 and waiting months for the piece. She explained that fixing the flaws would require redoing the entire top and said "this is just how custom pieces are." She also claimed the showroom table looked the same, but when we compared them, it clearly did not. The owner eventually agreed to make "adjustments," though she was dismissive about timelines and updates. She later offered to refund us and keep the table, implying I was "too upset" to be satisfied -- which felt unfair, considering our frustrations were justified. After further discussion, she agreed to fix the issues and deliver the table the following Monday. When it arrived, the "repairs" were unacceptable. The legs had simply been spray-painted over, one of the staple marks was sanded down leaving a burn ring, and new bubbles appeared on the copper top. Again, I had to reach out for follow-up. The owner reiterated her offer to take the table back and refund us, but by that point, starting over with another company would have meant waiting months more. When I asked for compensation due to the poor craftsmanship, she rudely offered only $200, though they did waive the $175 delivery fee since we lived outside of Detroit. Overall, the experience was incredibly frustrating. The customer service felt polite until we paid -- after that, it became dismissive and condescending. The quality of the final product does not reflect the price or the promises made. Bottom line: Woodward Throwbacks may have appealing designs, but if you're looking for reliable communication, professional customer service, or high-quality custom work, I cannot recommend them.

ALERT - BUYER BEWARE…read more I recently had furniture delivered to my home, and the experience was beyond unacceptable. The delivery team caused significant damage--holes in my walls, scraped paint off my railings, and even ripped out ceiling light fixtures. When the company sent someone out to "fix" the damage, the repairs were rushed and poorly done, leaving my walls looking worse than before. To make matters even more frustrating, the owner contacted me with a dismissive and unprofessional attitude. Now I'm left paying out of pocket to properly repair damage that THEY caused. To top it all off, one of the movers behaved inappropriately and asked me for a hug. Completely unacceptable. I take pride in my home--it's a beautiful condo--and this is the condition they left it in. I will NEVER shop here again. Please think twice before using this company. Shop at your own risk.

In fact, they encourage it before you place an order. It made a huge difference to see and feel the actual materials in person - especially when trying to match existing decor. It shows how much they care about helping customers make the right choice, and it gave me so much confidence in my order. That kind of attention to detail and customer-first approach is rare these days! That kind of thoughtful, exceptionally generous service really sets this furniture store apart, especially when it comes to custom, high-end pieces like Amish furniture. Their website stands out above the other Amish furniture online companies. It is user-friendly, beautifully done, and easy to navigate, with clear photos and detailed descriptions that made choosing the right piece simple - even without seeing it in person. The check out process was a breeze. I want to express my appreciation for the outstanding customer service I received from their team, expressly, Katy, for lending her expert opinion regarding furniture selection and helping me with a coupon code. Everyone I interacted with was not only helpful and knowledgeable, but also incredibly courteous and professional whenever I called. It's clear that this company values customer satisfaction. The store is full of eclectic and vibrant decor that will speak to the hearts of artists everywhere, ranging from clothing, to furniture, to toys and museum quality gifts. It has a variety of quirky finds that I've never seen before. The intention here is almost like a local gallery exalting each stunning piece of art, no matter how small. The pieces ranged from the very tiny porcelain dog, which was about the size of your thumb, to the very large bears, that were furry and taller than me. Colorful, diverse art dotted the walls and were displayed in all different living room themes for all different tastes and styles of home. This was a clever idea. You could picture the decor in your own home. "Buy local" is the intention here and deteriorating properties were bought up by the owner and given a stunning facelift to elevate the community. This was a closed down roller rink. There was also a cinema next door that turned to a gift shop and off beat eatery. The unique history of each is preserved in the original artifacts throughout. Being that this is art focused and unique, don't have the expectation of Walmart prices. Of course you're getting one-of-a-kind quality pieces that will make your heart sing when you see your selected art displayed proudly in your home. Leon & Lulu also will give you a discount for your birthday if you share that information. If you're in Ferndale, Clawson or Detroit, put this store on your must visit list.
