Penny Coffee Co - Avocado on toasted sourdough with marinated feta, spiced chickpeas, pomegranate salsa, sumac labneh, dukkah and lemon. Very, very good.

I've made a few trips to Penny, some just for coffee (takeaway and sit down) and a few with food…read more Across the board, Penny is outstanding in terms of Brisbane's cafe scene. The baristas are exceptionally skilled, and there is a selection of roasts to choose from. While I normally like my coffee black, something that isn't too hard to make, I've had a few flat whites from Penny which have been excellent. A friend of mine asked if they're able to pull a piccolo using soy milk, without the milk splitting. Despite indicating that the barista don't need to try if they haven't made one before, they produced one (after two failed attempts) by slowly adjusting the extraction to the point where they could add a shot to soy milk without producing soy cheese. Doing this despite explicitly not needing to is the sort of above and beyond that earns long-term customers. The food is similarly stellar. The avo on sourdough may at first blush seem like a pricier version of what everyone else is doing. The flavours in Penny's version are, however, inventive and balanced to a point I haven't had elsewhere. There's a nice balance between the feta, dukkah and pomegranate where you can taste all of them without one overpowering the other. The vegetabowl is similarly great. There's just enough of each ingredient that you can taste them, without the dish being overpowered by one note. Penny's interior makes maximal use of the space. There are comfortably sized tables out front and inside, and some bar seating by the espresso machine. The best seats in the house, though, are out back, and include a few longer tables. The staff at Penny are attentive, friendly and great at pulling a coffee and making food.

What a find! Cannot believe it has taken so long to find…read moreit. This place is great - it has changed hands since the last review and some changes made, still praiseworthy. The family love this place including our dog. It is on Ekibin Road - there is parking out front but best to use s side street. Walk up - do the COVID check in - find a table inside or out in the backyard garden ( our preference as we take the dog) There is a dog playground at the back next to the table - most dog friendly cafe I have seen. But let's get down to what's important- coffee & food - both good. The long blacks more than passed muster and given an excellent score by the other half. The capppuccino on almond always hits the spot. Coffee is excellent. Food is also excellent - the snag varieties vary day to day so check for favorites. Good selection of vegan and GF options. Top marks!

Bare Bones coffee, 63 degree eggs and 3 types of hashbrowns made to order, what's not to like?!…read more Snag & Brown has filled the gap that Azafran left in our hearts and neighbourhood. Adding another gem to Annerley/Moorooka/Tarragindi surburban cafe landscape this place is well on it's way to becoming a brunch/breakfast favourite. We visited Subsay morning 10ish - while we had no reservation (and it happened to be Father's Day - oops) we were still seated & served quickly. Menu features many bfast faves with some twists thrown in such Banana Bread French Toast the husband ordered along with specials like the Moroccan eggs that I had. Many gluten free & vege friendly options available. Carnivores fear not maple bacon & homemade sausage varieties abound. Coffee orders were taken promptly and delivered swiftly. Bare Bones coffee FTW. We didn't try the juices or smoothie options but they did sound good. Service was great considering the business of the day. My hashbrown side order did get slightly forgotten at first - which I'm attributing to simple new staff error - but soon appeared once brought to their attention. They are open for lunch & dinners (not totally sure which mights) and wine list we are keen to go back and try that out soon.

Hidden Gem How did I not find this place earlier?…read moreOnce you find it you'll remember the charm. This is a gorgeous vintage feel cafe that has ample seating and space. There is on street parking. It's opposite a cute little kids playground. Walk up and either put in the order or find a table - there is table service - quick, friendly and efficient. The menu has some old favs like crumpets with passion fruit butter and the usual eggs and toast - both are great. Breakfast Burger is a very tasty meal. The coffee is good. This place is now one of my favorites - love the general store charm. Ohh! It's also dog friendly ( sitting outside) - they serve a puppycino - paw stamp of approval from outer chocolate lab.

We were seated in the back where I got a clear view of the entire restaurant. The place is buzzing! We started off with some coffee, because that's what you do when in Australia. The coffee culture is HUGE here. After everyone arrived, we got down to business. We ordered: Crispy Corn Fritters: absolutely delicious! Crispy corn fritters soft on the inside are served with perfectly scrambled eggs. Not on the menu Breakfast Sandwich: this was for the kids who couldn't find anything on the menu they liked. Essentially a bacon and egg sandwich (on a burger bun). Smoked Pork Hock Hash: my least favorite dish is smoked pork hock potato cake dotted with green harissa, avocado, kefir tahini, and finished with two poached eggs. It wasn't bad, just kinda boring when compared to the rest of the stuff. Eggs Bender: Billykart's version of eggs Benedict. Two poached eggs and a respectable Hollandaise sauce paired with house smoked Ora King salmon, and a side of sauteed mustard greens. No traditional English muffin here, instead a thick slice of rustic sourdough bread substitutes. Aussie Asian Eggs: my favorite dish. Also, possibly the most creative. A cake of fried noodles is topped with grilled prawns and bacon plus two deep fried eggs over the top. Food is good, really good. If you're in the area, definitely stop by.

Umu Kitchen is found on corner of Toohey /Denham Rds. in a little shopping Centre, easy parking if drive there. Walk in - staff are very friendly and the place buzzes with activity - have a look at the counter of food and treats. Seating is inside or outside and spaced to meet COVID 19 social distancing. Menu is definitely Pacific Island influenced and worth checking - BUT for me it's the great range of Gluten Free meals / treats. It is a Kitchen so meals prepared on premises. The range of sweets (and GF) is great - try them to see how good. Coffee - is good. Treats are excellent - hey it's all great.

The mains have are Polynesian or have an island twist on well known cafe basics, but they do provide your standard bacon and eggs or avo on toast. For those who wish to try their Polynesian mains, they are amazing, I'd recommend their savoury mince as it's absolutely incredible. If you prefer traditional cafe food, then they have the best sausage roll you'll ever eat, hands down. Want something sweet? They have cakes and muffins with gluten free and vegan options available, which are without a doubt as good or better than any regular cafe cake I've had. The vibe is relaxed and comfortable, and the atmosphere is open and airy with plenty of plants to bring a touch of green to the room. Service is always fantastic and helpful and never leave you waiting for long. I have never been so impressed with a cafe in my life.
