Better late then never on this review and seeings as how it's a new year I suspect some folks may have divorce on their bucket list of resolutions so here goes.
Divorce. Yes it sucks ass to hell and back BUT once in this position of needing to escape from Alcatraz you're faced with options: Hire an attorney, DIY, stay trapped in a sinking ship or seek out the aid of a paralegal team.
Me, I hired an attorney in July of 2010 and after being bled dry with little more than the court docs officially filed by said attorney and tons of money down the drain I released them and the paperwork sat at the courthouse completed for more than a minute.
Why because the DIY shops at a local courthouse are futile, suck your energy and time and still leave you wanting to cut yourself as well as anyone else who gets on your nerves by their continuous barrage of lame questions already asked & answered a million times within said DIY tax-payer funded course classes.
Rant over. Well part 1 is. I also wasn't Yelping very much at this time either.
Mental note taken.
Disclosure: Me and my former husband were beyond timely with our completion of our paperwork, returning calls as well as paying all the required fees. We handled our part of the transaction & professionally so.
I was living in Modesto, CA at this time. First week of September 2012 I found this place not too far from my Casa.
Met with Sandra who was very personable which makes you naturally want to trust & believe her when she tells you that your case is SUPER EASY & will execute quickly as I had already paid the big bucks to the attorney to do the majority of the time consumingly PIA initially filed court docs.
It's a snake oil kind of thing; gotta watch the smooth ones I'm learning with time as now a days I'll take a clumsy, not so smooth, knowledgeable BUT honest person any day of the week verses the slick Ricks. No pun intended Dick.
Yes my divorce was finally final.
8 months after I hired A Legal Place to complete it; in May 2013.
However, the non-stop effort on my part in order to ensure its completion is what was beyond ludicrous & infuriating.
Wasted so much of my precious time & energy as I constantly had to call to follow up on where we were at in the process often times to learn that the proverbial ball had once again been dropped by the multiple employees at A Legal Place.
I still wonder if I hadn't been so consistent & on the ball if my divorce ever would have become official...
Just one occurrence which delayed the processing of our paperwork for weeks was due to a lack of return-postage on the part of A Legal Place one which I would discover only after phoning the court house to check on the status of our case.
The court stamped & filed docs were just sitting there waiting for this company to follow up or figure out their postage error further delaying their return.
I would be the one to contact Sandra to inform her of this fiasco after learning of it from my call to the courthouse.
This only after Sandra assured me that they had done their part and our docs were in process at the courthouse. I already knew better based on A Legal Place's past less than adequate track record with our case.
My case wasn't complicated. No property, assets or kids to battle over nor any Baby, Daddy, Momma drama.
It truly was a slam dunk case as I walked away from it all starting over from scratch.
This is precisely why the lack of attention to detail, lack of follow through, follow-up and excessive time it took for them to complete it successfully but only with my constant adult babysitting chaps my hide so much.
A piece of advice to this business:
Don't take on more business then you can do and do well. It only serves to damage your credibility & reputation. read more
