I am almost done paying off my three year loan. Next to no credit, so my choices were limited. Never had a late payment; in fact, I used to pay extra. I went to apply for an apartment and found out my credit was still as bad as ever. Two and a half years and they have never reported my good standing. They are rude and difficult on purpose. So my credit is crappy and A-L Financial picked up my loan. I received a phone call saying my payment was due two days ago. Okay, my fault for sending out the payment the day it was due but receiving a call about it two days later seems a bit intense. I apologized and swear up and down that I had already sent it in and the lady says, "ARE YOU FAMILIAR WITH OUR NO DELINQUENCY POLICY?" Uh, yes. So I ask if there is a grace period and she says, "THERE IS NO GRACE PERIOD WE HAVE A NO DELINQUENCY POLICY." I ask, "So can I put a stop payment on the check I sent out and pay over the phone?" to which she replies, "NO WE ONLY ACCEPT CHECK, WESTERN UNION OR COME IN IN PERSON. WE HAVE A NO DELINQUENT POLICY." Puzzled, I ask what is going to happen since they haven't received my payment and it's already past the due date. She says that after 10 days I will be charged a penalty fee. "Isn't that considered a grace period?" I ask. "NO MA'AM THERE IS NO GRACE PERIOD WE HAVE A NO DELINQUENT POLICY." So now only does she think I'm some low life who can't pay her bills on time but deaf too. So I ask what the late fee is and she says she doesn't know because I haven't been charged yet. Just because I haven't been charged doesn't mean she can't know what the late fee is. I ask if it's a flat fee and she says it actually depends on my balance. So I asked how it's calculated and she says she doesn't know because I haven't been charged. I try and slow it down for her so she can understand what I'm asking: "WHAAAAAAAAAAAAT IS THE FORMULAAAAAA USED TO CALCULAAAAAATE THE LAAAATE FEEEEE?" *loooooooooooong pause* "MA'AM I SUGGEST YOU LOOK AT YOUR CONTRACT FOR THE ANSWER." From Dec 2014: Literally starting this review as I sit on the phone with this company. After 3 "accidental" hang-ups requesting my payoff amount so that I can refinance through another (more legitimate and PROFESSIONAL) company, I finally received the information I was attempting to obtain. Admittedly, I do not have great credit - through no one's fault but my own. However, with the exception of last month (when my car broke down) I made every single payment on time and with a little extra $$ to go towards the principle. When I spoke with my agent, Vanessa, I explained to her that my payment would be a week late because of the tow and repair fees. She actually tried to help me by offering me an opportunity to have my next payment deferred. I scrambled to provide all the documents and payment for the current month due + the additional fees for the deferment by WIRE (because, apparently they don't know how to do it with a check or credit card - probably just that they don't want to pay the credit card fees). Regardless, I did my part and she said I was approved... A few days later I receive a call from her saying that she made an error and $25 of my payment was supposed to be sent separately for the deferment, however, I could send that in by next month's due date and the "overpayment" would go to the following month's payment. So I complied and scheduled the $25 payment through my bank (as I always do) to go out in time for my payment deadline.... Last week I received a call from them again stating that my payment was late and due in full. I told them that I sent in the $25 per Vanessa, but was told that they could not accept the $25 check from my bank - it had to either be cash in person or via wire. The WHOLE FREAKING POINT of the deferment was to help me out this month because of the financial hole I was in from my car breaking down!! When I politely reminded them that this was a clerical error on their end and that I should not be responsible for their error, asking that they work with me, I was met with attitude by EMILY - and while I did eventually become impatient and lose my cool, I could NOT BELEIVE the level unprofessionalism and lack of respect I was met with!!! Her only response was that I had less than 24 hours to make that $25 payment or they "would take this to the next level". I asked her several times to please explain what that meant, she would only quip with "the next level". I asked several times if they could please work with me, explaining I was out of town and nowhere near the area to accommodate their "last minute request" nor was I inclined to pay ANOTHER $25 to WIRE $25 to them when I already did that once - and not to mention: Who in the hell doesn't take direct checks from a BANK?!?! Idiots. (They must be in cohorts with Western Union for additional money from the fees.) Flipping retarded! After a back-and-forth useless "conversation" with this skank, EMILY, (or was it Melissa...? either way) I had had enough and told her I was appalled by her lack of customer service skills and that I would much rather go to another financial company. Her snotty response: "Good Luck with YOUR credit score." I had had enough, I hung up... and called Lending Tree where I received several offers to refinance and at a lower rate! Take THAT you stupid piece of $h!t w****e!!! Today I received a call from their manager, Jason (if he truly is the manager), and his attitude was pretty much the same: ignorant and unwilling to help. I explained the entire situation all over again and he had the audacity to tell me that my deal with Vanessa was between us and he was only there to tell let me know my payment was due immediately - in full (less the overages I had made as applicable credit towards the amount due). I reiterated my point: a clerical error on THEIR end and she needed HIS authorization to override that $25 payment made by check - to which he responded with he didn't have the authorization to do so. Now I know where Emily's attitude came from: they are all peas in a pod and I cannot WAIT to be done with this low-life, bottom-feeding, ignorant, piece of shit business!! I would like to give Vanessa some credit as she seemed to be the nicest one I've ever dealt with there. Instead I'm going to offer some free advice: Vanessa, if you truly are a nice person and not like the Witches of Eastwick you seem to be surrounded by - then get the fuck out while you still have some sense of your humanity left!! The people at this business have a worse-than-DMV-attitude with a burger-flipping mentality that will never amount to anything more than they already are: Fucking repo/finance sadists for a low-rate, low-score business with the personality of a cumquat. I've been with A-L for a year and I have not had any significant issues. I believe that most people having problems with A-L because they sent their payments in late. You MUST pay your bill on time. Pros: 1. They will let you change your payment date ONCE The reason I rated then 2/5 is because their "business practices" are either unethical, inconvenient, and/ or unfair. CONS: 1. you can't pay a large lump sum on your loan principal (in order to pay your loan off early). They want to collect interest on every month. ex: I asked if I could pay $1000 on my loan. A-L rep said, "We don't do that. If you pay $1000 dollars, your monthly payment will be taken out of it every month. We still collect monthly interest." 2. The interest. My interest rate is around 18% (super high) ex: I pay $330/ month A-L takes about $150 just for their interest fee 3. Rude customer service/ account reps. Not all are terrible, but I have dealt with a few that had nasty attitudes. And they will hang up on you. 4. they don't take credit/ debit card payments. This would make it a lot easier for people to make their payments on time. 5. They don't offer incentives like REAL, RESPECTABLE banks or credit unions. ex: lower interest rates after paying on time for a long period of time. I say go with them if you are desperate. Just stay long enough to raise your credit score (which does happen pretty quickly 6months to 1 year). After about 6 months to 1 year GO REFINANCE with a real bank. refinancing is crucial. If you don't you will most likely end up paying 2X (or more) what your car is worth. read more

I had been through a couple reps since I first started my car notes in 2009, (with varying levels of customer service) but ever since Darlene has been my rep my service has been pretty great. She calls to remind me when my bill is due and doesnt hassle me for it, just figures out a solution for me to stay current on my bill. She has allowed me to turn in my payment considerably late, (up to a month) without even reporting it to the credit agencies. So knock it off with the sucky reviews! I have had no issues with this place save a check I sent from my boyfriend's account and they returned it because they were unfamiliar with the account. Honestly, the people here leaving bad reviews are either pretty irresponsible or have had unfortunate circumstances and sorry ADULTS, but not everyone can cut you a break. If this is your financial company, chances are your credit is already bad and this is, ahem, a "second chance" financial company. They are on your butts about your payments, so that your car WON'T GET TOWED, because you legally signed an agreement to pay said payment on said date. Yes, they are not as advanced as other financial companies, which means you have to be a LITTLE more responsible in knowing their policies, and how they process payments, what is available or not. Sorry about it. For those who are just starting out with this group, be responsible. Make your payments at least 10 days ahead of time, be aware of when they will cash it because they don't do it right away.
