Frenchtown Transmissions - Messaged Brad Sewell on FB, explaining that my top flew off on the way home.

    Frenchtown Transmissions

DON'T GO! I dropped…read moremy 1989 Corvette off at Frenchtown on June 18th, 2021 (as pictured below) and was told it was slipping in 3rd. Three weeks later the manager Brad Sewell called and said after rebuilding the transmission it now shifted to 3rd, but not shifting to 4th. Days later he called and said it was ready, and that the reasoning was due to a part that they replaced, that didn't need replacing. No sweat. Picking up my car Brad "randomly mentioned" how nice targa tops were, and instructed me to take care of it, then we began talking about targa tops vs convertibles. Not one second did he mention seeing anything wrong with it, or that they may have damaged it. Thought nothing of it. I get in my car, drive for 30 miles (as instructed) and my check light engine comes on. Brad is leaving the shop, so we agree that I come back the next day. Headed home, I realize wind coming through the front right of the Targa top. Miles later, in the middle of the highway, my ENTIRE TOP flys off. Livid. I send Brad pictures on FB, and tell him I want to be professional about it. He calls the next morning, and says Frenchtown Transmissions will not pay for it. He goes on to tell me that I believe my car is the best car anyone at that shop has touched. Meanwhile, I wouldn't care if it was a hooptie, if I drop my car off for transmission problems (which still isn't fixed) THE TOP OF MY CAR SHOULD NOT FLY OFF THE FIRST TIME I DRIVE IT (pictured). I've driven the car over 900 miles in 3 months and have had ZERO problems. Brad also tells me that they unlatch the top during labor, which means they did alter the top at some point & time. It is very unprofessional that a company will not take accountability for something that's happened during their possession, and I am forced to take this up with my insurance company. PLEASE, DO NOT go to Frenchtown Transmissions, by any means!

My transmission went out in Chevy Silverado. FrenchTown Transmissions was recommended. I called…read morethem and the mechanic gave me the run down on the common issues on my make and model and quoted me $1,300 - $1,500 to have the transmission rebuilt. He stated that he did business cash only which I thought was kinda shady but whatever And he said it would be a couple weeks before he could get to it. No problem. I had the truck towed to him and he has it for two weeks and calls me on a Friday saying that my truck has diagnostic codes on. I replied so what it's a knock sensor? He says if it has codes it could mess up the transmission down the road And asked when I could come and get it? I had just got off Work and now o need to drive from Foristell to St Charles to have the towed to another mechanic to have the knock sensors taken care of and then have it towed back to him at my expense! so i get there and I introduce myself and asked the simple question, "if codes are a prerequisite to the transmission work being done why wouldn't you tell me that when I told you my truck was at Fred's auto, I could have had them do that work before having it towed"? He says I was trying to blame him and he go's into how many good jobs he has and that he is so busy he doesn't need anymore work"!? so Im sitting on the side of the road waiting on a tow truck as I write this review. He may know how to fix a transmission but he doesn't know how to deal with customers for sure.

    Rhodes Engines

    St Charles

I was referred to Rhodes Engines by my parents. They have been taking their vehicles here for some…read moretime and were referred by my uncle before that. My family evidently has some ties to the owner through participation in youth baseball decades ago. I took my 2007 Honda Ridgeline to the shop on Monday 9/27 for two things; First, my power locks were not working correctly, the driver's door could not be engaged with either the remote or the button on the inside (all other locks worked fine). Second, my Check Engine and VTM-4 indicator lights were both on. On 9/30, after not receiving a phone call in the interim, I spoke to Scott by phone and he told me that he had put in a new actuator for the windows and had yet to figure the exact cause of the indicator lights. Scott recommended that I pick up the vehicle, fill it with gas and fuel injector cleaner and drive it for the weekend and see if that helped (thought maybe it was bad gasoline). I picked up the vehicle that evening (thurs). The power locks were not functioning properly already, the locks would click at 10mph when slowing down or speeding up, even though the vehicle was locked on the first click after taking off the first time. I was going to give the fuel-injector recommendation a shot over the weekend and then see if either issue was still going on. On Friday evening, after the shop had closed for the 3 day holiday weekend, I was driving the truck at night on the highway (first time since I picked it up), and I immediately noticed something was amiss. I could hear something rumbling around in my truck bed that sounded heavy. When I pulled over, to my surprise, I found the plastic cover that goes over the engine block had not been put back on and was placed in the bed of my truck! Fearing that something else may have been incorrectly misplaced or removed and not put on, I parked the truck for the holiday weekend (which ended our holiday plans as we had no truck to use for our camping trip we had planned), and made sure to be at the shop at 8:30 a.m on Tuesday 9/4 to get my truck put back together and the actuator looked at again. I was still willing to give the recommendation of driving it for awhile a shot, but only after the truck had been put back together properly (again, this place was recommended by family, so you want to give the benefit of the doubt). Well, it's Thursday morning 9/6, and I just called them after NOT BEING CALLED FOR TWO DAYS, and I was told that they now had it on the floor, looking into the indicator lights trying to figure out what was wrong with it. This was not what I had even told them to do when I dropped it off the second time, and even though they had made a mistake that was very unprofessional (leaving parts off my engine and in my truck bed), I got no phone call from Scott or anyone else for over two days (who knows how much longer I would have waited had I not called them this morning?!). I realize people make mistakes, and I try and give people the benefit of the doubt, but this lack of contact after a mistake they made is just inexcusable in my book. The only other review I ever wrote for YELP was a positive one, so I am not a regular complainer or a customer who is always looking for something. I just wanted my vehicle repaired correctly, and I expected at least a cursory amount of communication as a courtesy. I was told I would get a call back soon, after the lady answering the phone was able to talk to Scott about the situation (he was "out of the shop"). I will update this review as my situation develops...I am hoping this situation gets resolved satisfactorily soon. Keep you posted. UPDATE: I got a call back and was argued with (receptionist) about what I had requested done when I dropped off truck the second time, I was told the shop was "very busy" to explain why I wasn't contacted sooner after their initial mistake (or NOT AT ALL in this case, I CALLED THEM). If this is the type of service you are looking for, by all means take your vehicle here. Otherwise, I would recommend ANYWHERE BUT HERE. FINAL UPDATE: When I went to pick up my truck, I was once again argued with and the YELP review was placed both in my vehicle and was also mentioned by the receptionist, when I told her simply that my YELP review "spoke the truth of what had happened", she got even more confrontational and tried to show me what she had wrote down that I had said, even though I knew what I had actually requested done. As for the engine cover being left off during the initial work, she told me (in front of another waiting customer) "you act like we left a tire off or something", it was "only the engine cover". When I told her that the engine cover, placed in my truck bed without my knowledge, could have flown out of the bed and onto the highway if I hadn't caught it in time, she said that I should just talk to Scott about it. Scott came in, told me to leave and my family was no longer welcome. 1 star is too high for this place.
