Do not buy a car from A-Kar Auto Sales, Middletown, NJ. My experience is identical to Beau M.'s experience, dated Nov 15, 2024. I bought a 2013 Ram from A-Kar and at first glance all looked well. Charlie gave me a CARFAX report stating it had only Minor Damage. On my 84 mile trip back home I noticed a very wobbly front end and it bounced repeatedly from the smallest bump in the road. Exceeding 60 mph was life threatening. I couldn't help but recall Charlie's statement, "This, vehicle has passed the A-Kar 42 point inspection." The following week I took it to two separate, trusted, independent local repair centers and each had the same report. The front struts on both sides, Sway Bars both sides, Upper Ball Joints {Control Arms} both sides were damaged and must be replaced. Wire was used to hold the gas tank in place and the rear section of the frame was severely rotted and the frame was heavily rusted. Someone tried to cover the rust using Bondo and sprayed it black. The following day I called Charlie at A-Kar with the repair center reports. He was apologetic and told me to bring it back and he would have all the repairs completed. He said he did not personally inspect the truck before it was released and he was sorry for the inconvenience. Because of the danger in driving , I contracted AAA towing to pick the truck up at my home and take it back on that 84 mile to Middletown. At the same time I followed up in my car to speak to Charlie but it was Wednesday, his day off. The following day we spoke and he said the A-Kar service shop had it up on the lift and had started the work. He said I would be able to pick it up in 5 to 7 days. They had the truck seven weeks. I would call weekly to get a progress report. Each time Charlie would say they are making progress. Finally on July 11 Charlie said the truck was ready. Once back home, I took it back to the same repair shops to learn the only thing that was done in the seven weeks they had it was the gas tank strap was replaced. A summary of my experience at A-Kar is this, it's an environment of Lies, Deceit, Fraud and Trickery. I wish I had read the reviews of others before I bought there. Maybe perhaps my experience will help someone else. Run away from this place as fast as you can. read more

DO NOT BUY A CAR FROM HERE! I wish I listened to the reviews posted, but there was a car that was priced extremely low and I thought I was getting a deal! Well I had to invest an extra approx. $4K in repairs to get the car to pass inspection and driveable. David and Charlie are untrustworthy. They sold me a car that had many issues from brakes, to engine issues to battery drains! Very, very mis-leading. read more

DON'T BUY FROM HERE. UNLESS YOU WANT TO LEAVE WITH THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS WORTH OF WORK, and they know they are selling garbage, and after they get you, they don't answer the phone. I'm so upset. I wish I had believed the reviews. This place sells messed-up cars and sells you a $2500 warranty that is only good for a month. I see why, because they know their cars are shit and they don't really service them before selling them to customers, and they lie about everything, and they are crooks, they have all these fees. I bought a car from them, and the day I picked it up, the heater didn't work, and the tire had an issue. them i took the car to get checked by Kia, and they told me I need to replace the radiator and all 4 tires need new rotors and breaks over 3k in repairs I was quoted. read more

Worst experience of car buying ever!!! this dealership is completely dishonest and try to pass on a vehicle that is not safe or could pass inspection without me paying more for the car. They will not return my deposit, Please don not do business with this dealership. read more

Stay away!!! Everything about the buying experience was every cliche of a used car dealer. Their service department was terrible as well. 5 months after I bought a car there and now it needs thousands in repairs. Terrible. Don't make the mistake I did. read more

My first time buying from this dealership and 100/10 would NOT recommend!!!! Took for a test drive everything was fine. As soon as I left the lot the engine light came on. I took it to ford and they told me the vehicle should have never left the lot. I have permanent codes and my car will never pass inspection. And it requires thousands of dollars in repairs!!! I'm single mom of a special needs child no assistance!!!! Paying for my car and my apartment by myself! And they do not care! This car is unsafe! Do not go here! read more

Currently at jiffy lube and they advise that an oil changed can't be completed bc when the last one was done things were striped. Called Akar Auto Sales & Service and spoke to the rep who sold me the car Mark and advised. Also advised that the car continues to unfold with issues that should have been addressed during their inspection of the car before putting it for sale on their lot. Mark was sympathetic and apologized for the way I had been treated at their establishment bc he "did not agree with how I was treated". Hung up to handle things with the jiffy lube. They were able to fix the mess and do the changed. Called A-KAR AUTO SALES INC. back and spoke to JESSE the owner. After he called the techs at Jiffy Lube kids, we scheduled for me to bring the car in on Wednesday. I reiterated to him the prolonged amount of time it has taken to get this vehicle in an appropriate condition. I advised him at that time that if we are not able to fix all of the things that are wrong with the car then I would want my money back. At this time the owner, JESSE, began to become frustrated, speak loudly Repeatedly asking if I was bringing the car Wednesday after this was already confirmed. He would not discuss Returning my deposit since this is the third time coming back for the same issues with the car. #badbusiness #auto #usedcars #newjersey #monmouthcounty #middletown read more

I have bought 2 vehicles from Akar and they made the process easy and affordable. I highly recommend them for your next used car.

Bought a truck from here and it was nothing less than a nightmare. After getting the truck I realized that they basically pieced the car back together with cheap parts. Different color headlight bulbs, cheap dash cover that looks terrible, and almost completely bald tires. I paid to have them register my car and it literally took 6 months and 75 phone calls. I paid for the service $90 and when the time came to get my paperwork I was told that they outsourced it to another company and had to pay $100 extra and if I don't they would hold my paperwork. I drove around with expired plates for more than a month and kept getting pulled over. When I got my paperwork, the registration process began in June but ended in January so I'll have to pay to renew my registration in 5 months. I've worked in car sales before and I've never seen anything quite as unorganized and unprofessional as this place. I don't like seeing or writing bad reviews but once my phone calls were completely ignored by mark and dropped it on Ahab's desk, that was the final straw. Their are many reputable dealers in new jersey so I would definitely think twice about going here for anything. I only went here because I was looking for a particular truck and received zero discount as well. BUYERS BEWARE!! read more

i had the worst experience ever with these people. i would never recommend these guys to anyone. i paid for my car in full & two months i stil have no title an no ac i call do much they know my voice... nobody has every reached back out to me to update me on anything ever. ive legit called them every single day getting different responses all to prolong me getting the title which i still do not have, i live in long island & i have a full time job to travel all the way to jersey to have a real face to face conversation is maddening, which i tried as well when they was supposed to repair the ac which still blows only hot air.... very very very dissatisfied customer - wish i can give zero stars read more

engine light on within 24 hours of having the car. called 6 times no response. went there four times.. finally got the car in for repair. After 3.9 miles engine light back on. back in their shop. 6,000 dollars down and 3,00 left in payments for this nice looking car. That's all it is nice looking. issues 3 times and counting. Check lemon laws before buying car. keep all service records even if it costs you nothing. Worst car experience I have ever had. Run far away!! 400.00 in towing fees.. Taking out a loan getting it fixed correctly. Looking at 11.000 dollars for a 8,000 dollar car. Horrible experience asked to calm down... Really??? Why wouldn't I be upset? read more

Not your stereotypical used car dealer. I'm very satisfied with my recent used car purchase. I dealt with Ehab & Jesse. They were both very accommodating in answering all my questions and helping me with my budget. Very open and honest about the car I bought and good follow up. I recommend A-Kar Auto Sales for your used car buying needs. read more

I went here when all hope was lost in finding a semi-decent car within my budget. I left with a car that I am exceptionally happy with, Jessie went out of his way and found a car that he KNEW I would like simply based on small conversations we had previously had on my style. He DID NOT DISAPPOINT. I highly recommend going to this dealership if you're looking for someone to work with you and look in your best interests as well as pay attention to what you're looking for style wise. read more

Jay was incredibly arrogent, insulting and obnoxious. Too bad for him, used car sales are EXTREMELY EXTREMELY profitable.

My ordeal with this place can only be described as harrowing. I'll give you the short version, as space is limited here. We went in here on 9/17/2019 to purchase a used car. We decided to finance a 2006 Nissan Murano, which they had just gotten in from an auction. We put down a payment and offered the old car (2006 Ford Explorer) as a trade, giving them the title and keys. The car began to have mechanical issues within a few days ( exhaust leak, leaky rear right tire, and service engine light were among them). There was a warranty, do they took it in to fix the issues, giving us a ( very dirty and worn out) loaner car. Over a week later I picked up the car, supposedly all repaired. Hours later the tire pressure light came back on, the service engine light the next day, and the same tire was going flat again. This time they sent their young assistant over who, without notice or any communication, removed the tire and installed the donut spare. I asked him if they were to fix the tire and after about three tries got him to grunt out a "yeah". Weeks went by, nothing but crickets from Akar, and still on the donut, then the rear axle/ bearing breaks down. I manage to get the car to Akar and the mangled tire is still sitting up against the building untouched. Nonetheless they took the car in again and I got the loaner car. More weeks went by, and now the salesman Mark Longo is knocking at the door saying that we need to sign new documents. When asked about this, he claimed it was because the registration expired and no payments were made ( we never got a bill for any payment). We were still waiting on the car to be fixed. Some days later, he comes knocking again when I wasn't home, but the loaner car was outside the house. He calls the cops, claiming we stole the "rental car'( which was a loaner) when it was sitting right there for him to take. He has the cops search my home, putting my girlfriend and her son through a harrowing ordeal, insisting i was there and demanding to speak to me. They were proven wrong, as I had stepped out for an errand. He then finally took back the loaner car, and left. The sale was obviously off at that point, so a week or 2 later I went to get the title and keys to the Explorer and our deposit back. Mr. Longo gave back the title, but claimed I never gave him the keys ( which I personally handed him with our deposit). He briefly checked the mechanic shop and came back with a couple sets of keys, none of them mine. He said to come back when the lot person was in. I then inquired about getting back our deposit. He refused, claiming that they paid the insurance with it , when in fact they only paid $80 on their card toward insurance, and we paid another: $100. I asked him for documents supporting his claim, at which he became angry and said"There's the door." I reiterated my request for documents, st which he then leaned over the desk with an enraged look and said angrily, " There's the door, see me in court." I then left the building, without my keys or money which they still have. My advice to others is run. Run fast. Run far. Don't do business here. read more

My son bought a car from them and it was clean reliable and lasted 3 years. Stood behind the sale. Great people

Have dealt with both the dealership and the garage and I couldn't be happier. They are honest, hard working and take great care of loyal customers. I send everyone I know to them for repairs or if they need to purchase a QUALITY used car. read more

Mistake # 1, having recently purchased a vehicle from A-Kar Auto sales, drove it from their lot to my house in less than 3 miles the car developed a major oil leak, coupled with the "Check engine" light remaining on.. Brought the vehicle back here's where the arduous journey began... Mistake # 2, was allowing their garage to do repairs on this vehicle, they were paid for services rendered (exhaust system, brakes) but when all is said and done this vehicle will not pass state inspection for emissions and brakes, along with one of the headlights having no power to it. I've heard from Jesse that Ehab is reputable, I've read statements from other customers that this establishment is honest & reputable, I beg to differ, if you ask Ehab today if he sold me the car, he would say NO... if he did not sell me the car then why was it when I picked it up there were blue A-Kar promotional license plates along with an A-Kar decal on the trunk, and A-Kar license plate holders on the vehicle? The most interesting fact & defining moment of this transaction, while the car was in for service Mr. Ehab removed the decal, but forgot to take off the license plate holders... all I can say is that an honest & reputable act? Ehab swore the car did not leak oil, and it did, his comment was it's just a seal. Ehab had his mechanic check the brakes, I was informed that he had to rebuild the rear calipers, everything else was fine, the front rotors are shot, his comment was "It's probably the way your son drives the car"... It gets better, when you drive the car and hit 45MPH, the car literally bucks, in his next breath Ehab tells me that one of the rear brake sensors must be bad, it's affecting the ABS system so it has to be replaced. The car lost all power Saturday night, the reason, both cables on the battery were loose, what is up with that? This car has been a nightmare right from the gitgo..and I know in my heart of hearts with all of the issues I've encountered with this vehicle, that Ehab would not allow his little sister or any other family member to own this vehicle, but he did not hesitate to take a 19 year olds life savings with no regret. If A-Kar Autos sales & repair shop is truly reputable, and honest with no questions asked they should take this car back immediately. Dom M. Middletown, NJ read more

Worst car dealership I have ever dealt with. I thought I was getting a good deal but the dealership never held up their end of the contract and in nice words totally screwed me over. The main dealer/manager Ehab will tell you anything that you want to hear to get a sale but I had major problems with the car in the first week of buying it. Even though it was supposedly under warranty they had my car for over 2 months before they said they finally found what was wrong with it. I called almost every day and than finally gave up and meanwhile I was paying for a rental car this whole time. After they figured out what was wrong with it which I highly figure they knew from the start, they wanted me to pay for it even though I was still making payments on the car that they said they were working on every day. I would drive by and just see my car sitting in the back. One of the worst experiences I've ever had buying a car. I hope to save someone the money and headache of dealing with this dealership and their employees. read more
