I meant to write this 6 months ago, but here we go...I have been a happy and satisfied electrolysis client of Soheila Biria for over a year and a half now. The treatments have truly been life changing for me. I started receiving treatments for unwanted hair growth in April 2009. As a dark-skinned, African-American female with thick and curly hair, it has taken me over a decade to find the best method to combat this unwanted hair growth. I'm 28 and my unwanted hair growth on my chin, neck, and chest started when I hit puberty at 13. For years, dermatologists prescribed creams, liquid topical aids, and also recommended that I continue shaving. This caused ugly hair bumps and years of skin scarring, because of my hair texture and race. NONE of them ever recommended electrolysis.
Finally in early 2009, I decided that doing the same thing over and over expecting different results (definition of insanity) was not going to work any longer! I started thorough research for methods to replace shaving and found information on 1. waxing, 2. laser surgery, and 3. electrolysis. These were the most important differences that I found useful: 1. Waxing is expensive, NOT permanent, and there is a VERY high possibility of still causing hair bumps. 2. Laser surgery is ONLY proven to give permanent REDUCTION , it is expensive, and because I am dark-skinned, has a VERY high possibility of causing EXTENSIVE skin scarring, because the laser cannot tell the pigment difference between my black hair and my dark skin. 3. ELECTROLYSIS is expensive, BUT it is the only FDA hair removal method proven to permanently kill hair growth, without the continuance of hair bumps or skin scarring! Although, I've always considered myself a beautiful woman, the hair growth, hair bumps, and skin scarring was always a thorn in my self-esteem, so there was no price tag I could put on resolving the problem.
I started out with 2 hour treatments every week. Within 6 months, I was down to 1 hour a week. Within another 3 months, I was doing 30 mins a week. After one year, I am down to 15-30 mins every 2-3 weeks and I'm sure by the end of this year, I will be completely finished with treatments!!! In other words, in less than a year, 80-90% of my hair growth had completely stopped. As long as I went in for my treatments regularly, Soheila was able to stop my hair bumps within a month and in a couple of months, my scarring started to fade.
Electrolysis is like trying to lose weight and having a trainer. Soheila is the trainer, but if you choose to continually not come for sessions, you can't blame her for the lack of your results. If you stay committed, the results will speak for themselves. Everyone's hair texture is different and areas for desired treatment varies in size, so all of that plays a role in how long the treatment actually takes. All I can say is, when you are really ready to be financially committed and committed with your time, be ready for a life changing experience.
As I get closer to the end of my journey, it is bitter sweet. I am going to miss Soheila's professionalism, friendly chats during sessions, and words of encouragement. Not only did Sohelia give my skin a "Gentle Touch," but she gave me the ability and confidence to feel as beautiful on the outside as I feel on the inside. read more
