The person in charge told me they tested the steering-wheel position sensor and determined it was bad. They then gave me an estimate of $1,060.95 to replace the sensor and perform a CAN-bus check and calibration. What made me uncomfortable was being told they could not guarantee this work would resolve the entire problem. They also said they thought the van may have previously been in an accident, but I was not shown evidence of that. I declined the repair, paid the diagnostic charge, and left. I understand that electrical and communication problems can be difficult to diagnose, but I did not feel comfortable spending more than $1,000 without greater certainty. I will be getting a second opinion.
