I was very apprehensive about having to go through surgery as I'd never really undergone any medical procedures but after I saw Dr. Freeland for my consultation I left feeling very relieved. He was so nice and took his time explaining how the surgery would go. He answered all of my questions so I no longer felt anxious about the upcoming procedure. The morning of my surgery he also stopped by to walk me through the surgery and recovery again to make sure I had no questions beforehand. It's been about a week since recovery and I've had no complications; recovery has been straightforward and how he explained it would go. Florida Spine Center on Orange Avenue with Dr. Broom and his associates, Dr. Rice, Dr. Rowland, are not one of these doctors that advertise these miracle surgical procedures. Their main emphasis is, what is the most beneficial treatment for their patients. Fact is, they do what is best for the patient. Surgery is the last thing they recommend and they will try everything in order to avoid unnecessary treatments. What is best is for the patient! But when surgery is established medically to be the best procedure, they are known for, their patients to get out of the hospital and going home 1 to 2 days earlier and with less complications. Their reputation at the hospital and with the medical staff is the highest. I've been told by the staff that Dr. Broom is the one that they trust and would be their first choice for their family! My first experience with Dr Broom was in Dec. 2000, due to a head on collision. That snowballed in my having 4 surgeries. The three doctors at the Florida Spine Care Center, Dr. Broom, Dr.Rowland, Dr. Rice are honest, caring individuals with the highest standards in their profession and take their responsibilities very seriously and the trust of their patients! I have over the years had my entire lumbar fused, due to the bad choice of a young person's lack of judgment that resulted in years of suffering for me and my wife. That young person's actions could have killed both of us! It has resulted in the last 25 years, a lot of trauma that both of us will have to endure for the rest of our lives! As of this review we are both 78 years old. I have noticed some of the reviews that are somewhat negative concerning Florida Spine Care Center. And I also noticed that a lot of these people seem to have one thing in common. Have to deal with Workmen's Comp. or something related to them getting some kind of compensation, be it Workmen's Compensation or whatever, so they don't have to work. That makes their review somewhat less trustworthy! Florida Spine Care Center and its doctors will not compromise their integrity! If you are looking for help from these kinds of problems, then Dr. Broom, Dr. Rice, and Dr. Rowland, at the Florida Spine Care Center are the ones that you can trust that they will not do unnecessary surgery, period! Here in Central Florida it is extremely difficult to find the level of professionalism, experience, and trustworthiness. My wife and I speak from experience from our injuries that we received in the accident on December 2000, and I am so thankful that Dr. Broom was recommended to me by a fellow worker. And I will leave you with some information that anyone who drives in Florida will find out if you have an accident and you or your family are injured and you have to go to the hospital. Florida is a No-Fault Insurance, only requires the bare minimum of insurance in order to get your license or to get a tag for your vehicle. Pay attention to this. If you have just the bare minimum of insurance like so many people do here in the state of Florida and you get into an accident that results in the kind of injuries that my wife and I received in our accident. A reality is going to hit you and hit you hard when it comes to medical bills. Because in the state of Florida, they will go by which ever driver has the highest insurance coverage. That will be the limit of the insurance companies liabilities. So if both of you have the minimum insurance and you get into an accident that requires the kind of hospitalization that my wife and I had, trust me, you will not be happy.

Asked me if I felt better and I said a little but I have been doing a sit down job versus my normal heavy lifting job for the past 3 weeks. HE ASKED ME if I wanted to try a higher lifting/bending restriction and I said yes let's see how it goes. My first day at work was a Saturday and I couldn't do the new restrictions more than an hour and had to leave. I've never been on workman's comp before and I called the after hours office to see what I should do about the immense pain I was in. Hours later when I get a call back the P.A. wouldn't let me speak and chastised me saying "you are calling MEEEEE on MYYYYY weekend for a workman's comp issue?" I said I am in pain, What should I do? He told me to call the office back on Monday when it was open!!!! I am going on month three of this injury and the office manager just cancelled me as a patient and my upcoming epidural injection because I begged her for help with my restrictions or figuring out what could else be wrong with me because I cannot bend!! She hung up on me while I was begging for the doctor to look at me again because something is wrong with my back and I cannot physically work the next five days like this! I've not once asked for pain medications and I feel like because I am a workman's comp claim they are treating me like I am garbage!!

However, I wanted to leave my review for new patients such as myself or even those preparing for their first upcoming surgery. I did pay out of pocket and I won't lie and say that it was a hefty price!! Front desk staff will state they do NOT do payment plans if you are uninsured however Daisha (billing dept) was so incredibly sweet and made an arrangement with my finance, we split the cost in half so we paid a week pre op, and then I paid my remaining today! My arrival time was 7:00AM, I checked in by 6:40am, and was called back not long after checking in, I want to say maybe 20 mins max! My pre op nurse(s) were Trish and Leah, omg they both really eased my anxiety, and had such wonderful bedside manner, they made me feel as if I was chatting with family, they promptly got me prepared for surgery by administering my IV, giving me Tylenol beforehand, explaining what I needed to do such as a provide a urine sample, get undressed, check my vitals etc. Leah provided additional comfort by setting the lights down as the beds are laid out in a row outside of the operating room, but curtains are all around to give privacy! Dr. Steehler popped in not long after to go over my procedure, answer questions, as well as discussing medicine aftercare and providing overall reassurance Anesthesiologist Dr. Dobson, did the same as well, asking my medical history, elaborating on the type of medicines I'd be actively given while under and what they do he was kind but more direct simply a doctor who has been doing this for quite a while I could tell, so easy work for him but nice nonetheless! I don't recall seeing him after he came by pre op but I believe he was in the op room. My OR NURSE Shanta was very nice as well as she wheeled me into the operating room, I can't recall the name of the woman I just know she was the anesthesiologist nurse (Asian woman) OMG she was amazing she really made my experience so relaxing as she administered the anxiety medication pre op before I got wheeled in the op room, both she and Shanta were at either side of my bed next to my head. All I remember was Shanta providing oxygen, and the very pretty anesthesiologist nurse, complimenting my dumpling stuffed animal, and next thing I know we were talking about Labubu's which I collect and love as well, the irony of that was just great because she really helped me drift peacefully, and it just created a bond of trust being in her care! After that next thing I know I'm awake in the observation room post op. I cried softly to myself as I woke up I wasn't in excruciating pain or anything I think just the nerves of having my first surgery and successfully doing it, everyone was right it really felt like the best nap, as if I slept on a cloud. Nurses Marlynn, and Susan were also very sweet and gentle with me, they monitored me for 15 min until I was discharged. Sorry ladies as I was out of it and processing going through my surgery.. but I appreciate your reassurance, and care as I was monitored and Susan for coming in clutch the extra banana ice pop! If you reached up to this point, I hope I've reassured anyone who is nervous! The staff is excellent in care, and bedside manner. They made me feel safe, validated in my fears, and provided care ensuring I was comfortable and safe all throughout. The facility is well maintained and clean as well! Thank you university surgical center, should I ever need another surgery I hope to be treated here.

5 Stars for professionalism and great bedside manner from all of the staff…read more I had to go in for a routine procedure and from the moment the appointment was made by my doctor the staff impressed me. They called two days out to confirm my appointment and to go over some specifics. I really appreciated the fact that they gave me a tip to wear comfy socks and to have whomever would be accompanying me bring a sweater as the building gets very cold. I arrived 20 minutes earlier than they had requested and they got me in right away. You have to bring someone with you to take you home as you'll be under general anesthesia and they make sure that person is comfortable as well. They have my 'designated driver' a pager so that she could sit in the larger, more comfortable waiting area on the first floor and be notified as soon as the procedure was over. They also let that person wait with me after I got hooked up to an IV so I wouldn't be bored. In terms of the nurses, they were great! They were calm and friendly and kept making sure all of us patients were warm and doing alright while we waited. Another hot blanket? Yes, please! I'm very squeamish around needles and they decided to use a baby needle since I'm a tiny person. They also chatted with me and helped distract me while they hooked me up. (They told me about the one time one very funny patient wrote HAPPY BIRTHDAY on his body so that when his doctor started the procedure he'd be surprised on his birthday! Was I already a bit loopy? Yes. Was that hilarious and did it take my mine off of the needle in my arm? You betcha!) One suggestion I would give would be to add signage by the street. I had a hard time pinpointing the building since the only sign is on the front doors- not visible from the entrance to the parking lot or from the street. I don't remember much else, but I wouldn't hesitate to return if need be as they took great care of me!
