Oak hill makes sure the student is doing his work and if extra help is needed, they will help. The homework load is a lot , but that's what makes for a smarter student. We love the small classroom size and the student to teacher ratio. The campus is small but very easy to navigate . The security is also top notch and very careful about student safety. Overall we are very happy with Oak hill. We believe the growth of our son is attributed to Oak hill and would highly recommend this school.

When 2020 hit and everything closed down I took advantage of being able to do homeschooling on top of doing her regular schoolwork. It was difficult but throughout the summer I realized she was going to be going into sixth grade during the pandemic. Nobody knew what was actually happening and I felt they would not be able to really focus on real education with all these new protocols in place. We felt it would be more traumatic than beneficial so we pulled her out out of public school for sixth grade. We continue to do some homeschooling and found Voyagers. In the meantime it was such a perfect fit. She has been thriving ever since she is now in 10th grade and is doing amazing.Voyagers is pretty epic and Their approach to education is a breath of fresh air. This is a true community and I love the mixed age classes . Now that the school is located on the Brookdale community college campus it gives the older kids (and the younger too ) lots of opportunities that they wouldn't get in traditional school!! They can sit in on lectures and next year our daughter will be able to take some college classes to get them out of the way by doing dual enrollment. We are so excited about this opportunity. Please check it out. You will not be disappointed.

Parents, beware: I urge you to read this cautionary tale so…read moreyou can be better informed about the people that operate the school. My wife was planning to go back to work and we were looking at daycares for our two children. At the in-person visit, everything seemed great. They told my wife to submit an application and specifically mentioned verbally that the only non-refundable part was the application fee. We applied our children at the end of July when she started getting tentative job offers, planning a September start once my wife's professional license cleared and she began full-time work, but we did not set a start date for school. They charged us 2 months of daycare costs for each child along with the app fees ($5,000+). Two days after submitting the second application, my wife gets another job offer at a non-profit supporting people with cerebral palsy. The job is lower pay and only part time, but offered discounted on-site daycare so we could afford the lower pay. This was good for my wife because she's been dealing with her own health issues. Needless to say, with this job, we could no longer afford Voyagers for 2 kids, as it would cost more than her paycheck, so the next day we asked to withdraw. Voyagers administration's initial response was encouraging, they'd review our case to see if we could be refunded the $5,000, or even a partial amount. However, we were soon told that there will be no review and we will not be getting any refund because the form we signed said "In the event of withdrawal within the first 30 days, the Parent will forfeit the first and last months of tuition. No refunds shall be provided." Going back to the form we signed, I did confirm this to be true. However, the issue is that the form did not specify what the first 30 days were of--application date, enrollment date, or something else. It was purposefully left ambiguous so it could be used in any way they best suited their situation. As is, we gave the school 30+ days notice of withdraw, only 3 days after signing up. We could have waited until September, after the 30-day window and when they had less time to find new students, but something tells me that we still would not have gotten a refund. I write this as a warning to parents that the school will likely look for any excuse to take your money. We are now out $5,000, which is not a trivial amount of money for us, as it is nearly as much as I make in a month to cover housing, food, utilities, and everything else aside from school. And I imagine the unbending and we-will-interpret-any-rules-to-best-serve-our-needs approach from the top (board and directors) can only trickle down the rest of the school's operations.

Don't listen to the review about Ranney being unsafe. In fact it's safe to the point of…read moreasphyxiation at times, even for the oldest students. I graduated from the Ranney school within the last ten years. I want to start by saying that the Ranney school falls somewhere between 3 and 3.5 stars. The reason why I gave it 4 stars is because of the select few educators and employees who I encountered while a student there who had a profound impact on me. The good - Ranney is a fantastic academic institution. It prepares you extremely well for college. I attended a top university and I probably would not have tried as hard in high school if Ranney had not been such a structured environment. Therefore, I can only assume that if I went to public school I would have had more distractions and probably gotten into a lot more trouble (although I was always in trouble at Ranney. Zero tolerance policy for teenage bullshit) - As I said before, a few of the teachers and administrators there are extremely talented. I won't name names but a lot of them left and a lot of them stayed. - The campus is beautiful and sprawling over sixty acres. It's colorful and you could walk around it and get lost in it. The bad - Ranney gives you a false sense of superiority and after college you are in shock when you find out that the real world doesn't give a rats ass about you. - Due to it's high tuition (I think it was 25k when I was a senior and now it's up to 32k) the people who attend Ranney are spoiled because their parents have money. - Because it's such a small school there will be favorites and students that seem to be getting preferential treatment. I may have witnessed cases of this but one can argue that this is just the nature of education. I don't have a conclusive opinion on this matter. Overall, if you are thinking about going to Ranney or sending your child there, please consider the following last words: Parents, get involved in your child's education and the school itself. If you plan on keeping your child in Ranney for the long run you should be on a first name basis with the teachers, administrators, and staff. If you don't, I promise you it will hurt your child's chances of being anymore than a statistic at the school. Also, remember to budget 5k over the tuition. Everything is extra. Kids, if you are anything like me and you have the brains to succeed but you don't have the maturity when you are in high school, give Ranney a try. If you don't like it after a year, leave. Also, if you decide to go be very careful about what you share with the school. It's not like public school. What you do or say will spread around the bubble like wildfire. If you wish to know more feel free to message me.

I could hear this while standing outside the building during pick-up and I also heard it when inside the building in the halls. My child started as a very young infant and the 2 caregivers that worked with her most closely seemed annoyed that she was struggling to take a bottle, or cried, or wanted to be held, or struggled with the texture of some foods when she was later starting on solids. All normal parts of development, learning to eat, etc. Caregiver would make negative comments to my baby in front of me at drop off if the baby started to fuss when separating from me. The 3rd caregiver she had at the school did seem caring and attentive and started to do sensory activities daily. Prior to this, it seemed that there were no books read, songs sang, games played, sensory activities. Staff wanted babies to lay and play by themselves. When I entered the room on a few occasions, I saw most staff scrolling on their phones while sitting on the floor rocking babies in rockers or on their bodies, and with older babies crawling around and not being interacted with. My child seemed traumatized by the lack of nurturing caregiver with whom to bond on her first times away from her mom.
