Relying on Yelp reviews we contacted San Diego Home Caregivers and met with the owner Sterling Miles. It was clear from the start that finding the right caregiver and meeting all of Mom's needs was his top priority. He even gave us information on other options in case his services might not meet our needs. He is genuine in his concern and commitment to providing top level care. We could not have been more impressed when we met Mom's new caregiver Jasmine. Her cheerful, warm personality was a perfect fit, and Mom was immediately comfortable with her. She went out of her way to not only care for Mom but to also help us in any way she could. Unfortunately, by the end of January Mom was at the end stage of her life. Because she was so comfortable with Jasmine, we had her continue to come even though Mom also had Hospice care by that time. As 20 family members came to say their goodbyes over the final two weeks, they were also very impressed with how caring Jasmine was and how much Mom appreciated having her there. Her last one was a success to remove tumor in jun 2021. The home health team of occupational therapist Alissa, Stacey, her physical therapist Alex, speech therapist Andrea and nursing staff Alyce, Hersey and Anita all were all just absolutely incredible with my mother. My mother went from bed bound to walking with a walker and doing more day to day activities for herself. This journey has been a miracle and we are excited to see more independence for my mother as she now will be going to an outpatient program. Once Mom was able to return home we knew she would need assistance during the day while we were away. Lauren was mentioned during a support group for a rare disease my Mother has. She was very thorough, communicative and listened to what my Mother needed. It took a reasonable amount of time to find the right caregivers that meshed well with Mom. But, that was expected, as new people enter one another's lives it takes time to find the right fit. Lauren's team literally saved her life. Part of Mom's neurodegenerative disease impacts her ability to chew, and swallow. While taking her morning vitamins one day, Mom began choking and the visiting angel with her immediately knew what to do. Had the caregiver not been with Mom that day she wouldn't be us. Unfortunately because the disease continued to progress we eventually had to find a suitable home to provide her with 24 hour assistance. Had Mom's disease not progressed, we would not have stopped working with Lauren and her Visiting Angels team. Lastly, I believe SD Visiting Angels was previously owned and operated by someone else, prior to Lauren taking ownership. I cannot speak to the caliber of the earlier company, however, Lauren is a knowledgeable, genuine and caring person. I'm 72 and have been bedridden for several years in debilitating pain. My Nurse Connie, has been excellent on every level for last 8 months. Connie had sprained her back & told me she'll be returning in 2-3 weeks. Unfortunately, while Connie was out. I had some misunderstandings regarding the scheduling of the replacement nurses. My only request was the nurse kindly text & arrange a visit with me at least one day in advance which did not happen consistently. Additionally I needed only one visit temporarily per week due to taking steroids which was a conflict with my twice weekly injection of Toradol. I received a call from an supervisor named Sherita who threatened she would be calling my primary doctor to discharge me if I didn't permit a specific nurse to come during Connie's absence. This seemed extreme measures as i had already had seen both him and another nurse in her absence. For some reason, she took it to mean I wasn't pleased with the available nurses which was not the case. Additionally, I was accused of refusing to see any other nurse while Connie was out. I felt her tone was very disrespectful, insensitive and the situation blown out of proportion while my nurse was texting me almost daily she would be back soon. This was not the first time I felt Lorian management treated me more like a number as opposed to a valued patient. But the nurses have been great so I've stayed. UPDATE: The next day i heard from Ethan, the Director of Patient Care who responded to this review. You would expect someone in his capacity to reach out in a conciliatory manner to find a suitable resolution to a dissatisfied long term patient's concerns. Instead, the purpose of his call was simply a curt voicemail to inform me he had taken action himself to discharge me from Lorian without any effort to communicate with me first or investigate my side of the story. His abrupt response and tone could only be described as retaliatory. His last statement was to the effect "I'd like to know what your opinion is of this!"
