My husband and I hired BRS Landscaping to perform some landscaping and install a set of stairs…read moreleading down to the river from our cabin. Initially the stairs and the mulch and boulders all looked very nice. (A note: When the stairs were going in my husband asked the owner if the 12 in ch vertical lengths of rebar was enough to anchor the stairs properly to the soil). Needless to say several months after the work was done, this past Christmas holiday right around New Years we were at our cabin in Rutherfordton. The night we arrived the river began rising and by morning the amount of water was quiet substantial. So much so that the bottom portion of the stairs was floating on the surface. After several hours a 30 ft section of the stairs floated away down river. We contacted our insurance company who did send an adjuster out. The incident was not covered but the adjuster did feel that the stairs should have been anchored to the soil and therefore we should contact the company who put the stairs in. We did contact Brad, the owner several times regarding this. It was always a problem getting him to respond to our calls. We went back and forth with finger pointing emails for several months without him even coming out to inspect the remaining damaged stairs, which he had finally agreed to remove. In the end due his busy schedule, I guess, no action was taken. We ultimately had to take matters into our own hands regarding preparing and properly anchoring the stairs so they would no longer float away. If your landscaping improvements include any structural elements we would recommend you consider using someone else. The owner really needs to work on his customer service after all we paid a lot to have this job done. J. D. Barnes
