The facility is clean and it's easy to make an appointment online. I've been there several times and have seen a couple of therapists. The quality of the massages vary wildly depending on who is performing them. During a recent massage, the therapist, Dorothy, farted audibly for at least the first ten minutes which was really rude and off putting. Additionally the therapists do not wear shoes. Given that clients are wearing footwear and coming and going to and from the parking lot, lobby, restrooms and the massage rooms, this gave me serious ick as the therapists must have seriously dirty feet by the end of the day. I've been coming to A Better Massage for a while now and feel that the four different massage therapists I've seen have all done a wonderful job. The therapists have always been on time, had the room cleanly prepared, and discussed what areas have been causing me discomfort before the massage. When I first started coming here it was for deep tissue work (years of desk slouching = pain in the neck). When getting the work done you are able to let the therapist know how if you need more or less pressure. I recently had some surgery and I've had massages that really helped reduce my post surgical pain. If you're looking for a place that can focus on therapeutic massages this is the place I'd recommend. read more

So... I was very lucky enough to win a gift certificate to "a better massage" in Gainesville. Boy did I need it! I was recently told I have planter fasciitis, it's absolutely awfully painful to walk on my heel, after a session here, the pain was relieved for some time thankfully! Went for my second time. Both were great massages but I had two different therapists and both took a while to actually come into the room. I ended up getting about a 50 minute massage when I paid for an hour. The massage was so good that I didn't mind, but they might want to pay attention to the clock. read more

I loves me my Rachel! I used to live in Gainesville and this was the place for my massages. When I was set up with Rach (that's right, people, R-A-C-H-E-L), I didn't look anywhere else. I love deep tissue massages and it's hard to find massage therapists who do it well (I'm not sure why either!). But she was awesome and always delivered. I always felt slightly drunk and clumsy after my massages, which was the ultimate mark of a good massage...and had it each time, consistently, dependably, reliably (do you get my point yet?). I've suggested that my good friends and co-workers see her. If my momma were in Gainesville, I'd send her to see Rachel too. My only problem now is that I've moved away and Rachel-less and am trying to find someone else to replace her. :( :( read more

I was visiting Gainesville for business and after a week of travel around Florida a massage was needed. Was able to get into A Better Massage on short notice and glad I was able to do so. Had the pleasure of seeing Rebecca who was an exception masseuse. Took the time to learn where my problems areas were and did a great job of having me feeling much better leaving than when I came in. I will be visiting again the next time work brings me back to Gainesville. read more

I have been a client of the therapists at A Better Massage since shortly after an auto accident in 2004 that left me with a compromised disc and trauma and scar tissue around my sciatic nerve. I was referred to them by a neurologist who was treating me for those injuries, and the results have been nothing less than amazing. I normally see Jackie or Rachel. The results of a visit are nothing less than amazing. I tend to wait until the discomfort has my back in knots from my shoulders to my butt, but they have magic hands and elbows! I might walk out feeling bruised from the deep tissue massage, but within a few hours, the discomfort is gone, and I feel normal for a few weeks. I have always recommended the staff at ABM, and will continue to do so. The entire staff is amazing. My only complaint has nothing to do with them, its that my insurance doesn't cover massage! read more

The owner Marlena has a deep sense of mission to help people feel better. I have painful orthopedic problems and she keeps me going with weekly sessions. My physical therapist sent me to her because I was in too much pain to do the PT. I walked bent over and every step was so painful. I saw her twice a week for a few months and now once a week keeps me walking upright with a lot less pain. read more

Had my first massage here the other day - got a same day appointment which was nice, location was fine with parking, but I had a massage by Sarah and for the majority of it was thinking "it's got to be over soon" and "at some point something will feel good and be worth the money", but it didn't get better, and right when I walked out I was texting my friend how awful it was. Also, the dressing/undressing/waiting is a part of the minutes you're paying for. read more
