The doctor at the office is wonderful and handles our autistic child with care and gentleness that makes coming to the dentist exciting for her. The staff are all incredibly kind and patient. My only issue is the choice of music. We live in a world where Christian's are not the only religion, so wouldn't it make more sense, and be less alienating for your clients, to just put on secular music? Even classical music if you're opposed to the lyrics in modern music? There are people who don't follow the same faith as you and you're not encouraging them to be repeat clients when they feel like they're being proselytized to for 2 straight hours in the waiting room. read more

My son and I enjoyed our 1st appointment here on March 10,2026. The entire staff and Dentist Was so amazing and caring. I felt they took the time to understand my fear of dentist And to reassure me that I'm in good Hands not just jump right in my mouth and start working. I feel like I should have been here a long time Ago. Highly recommend read more

I never look forward to my dentist appointments. I go every 6 months because it's what we are supposed to do and I just comply. This last appointment I had, was probably my first time that I had a Dental Hygienist be so gentle and quick and made me comfortable and relax. Thank you Angela for a pleasant experience. I would still rather go to Disneyland instead of being in your chair, but I thank you for a relaxed and very informative cleaning visit. read more

I have a from childhood trauma fear of the dentist. The staff here has gone overboard to ease my fears and make me comfortable. Afema Nwajei is such a beautiful soul. She truly cares. I will not go to any other dentist. My husband had a dental problem and his regular dentist office is closed until July. We got him an appointment , she took care of him. He's switching dentist now. I have uploaded pics of the mess (blisters, bleeding, etc.) made of my mouth. As soon as I get the chance, I will also write the complete review of the worst teeth whitening experience of my entire lifetime! Update and Longer Review: I read a review on YELP of this place because I could not find reviews elsewhere. It did not mention the Zoom process but was positive on the practice. I called and supposedly got the YELP special of $100 off (I later found out that I did not receive the discount.) I visited the location. After filling out paperwork and waiting for another 15 minutes, I had to go to my car to get a coat (this was June in Fresno!) because it was so cold. I finally got in and the technician began preparing my mouth. I thought the dentist was going to do the procedure like at another place that I had had laser whitening done outside of Fresno. Instead, a technician did the procedure. It was very painful and I had to raise my hand saying that the procedure was very hot on my gums. Although I was in pain, I paid the $450 (remember I said that I did not get the YELP discount) and went to kill several hours before coming back for my trays at 2:00. (They told me that they were shorthanded and that that is why they did not have the trays ready.) By the time I got back at 2, my mouth was hurting and I had blisters beginning to form. My trays were not ready but I was allowed to see the dentist. I was told to use Anbesol and Vaseline. I was also told that I had to wait another hour if I wanted the trays that day. Since I had clearly told them that I had to be back for graduation ceremonies and I also told them that I had to drive 150 miles round trip, I was definitely not happy. Also, I had to take another day of vacation to drive 150 miles round trip back to the office just to pick up the trays two days later. By the time I got home, my gums were swollen and bleeding. The next morning, my mouth looked so bad, I thought I might lose my teeth. I showed it to coworkers. One said that my gums looked like they had been put in the microwave. Another said that they had never seen such blisters and bleeding from laser teeth whitening. Another one said that the blisters and bleeding made it look like my teeth were rotten. I could not brush my teeth because of the bleeding. When I went back to pick up trays, I again complained about my gums. I showed the front desk personnel and all I got was, "I'm sorry. If it is still hurting in a few days, come back to see the dentist. "(Yeah, I guess I want to blow a third day of vacation!) No offer of reimbursement or anything. I looked the procedure up on the internet. I found that many dentists put sunscreen on patient's faces and that a protectant is put on the tongue and gums to keep problems from happening. If it burns or cracks, more protectant is applied. This did not happen here! read more

DO NOT USE THIS DENTIST!!!!! SCAM ARTIST AND UNETHICAL PRACTICES!!! I went in to see Dr. Wingarden in regards to a chipped molar where a filling had fallen out. I went there due to the fast appointment time and same day service. I got a quick appointment and was able to get x-rays done to see that I needed to have a crown placed on the tooth. (which was a lie!) I payed for my appointment and they billed my insurance for my services with no problems. They wanted to do the procedure the next day.. I asked for a few days since I would have to come up with the $1700 CO-PAYMENT. (I would rather have lost the tooth) After a conversation with a friend of mine who is a DENTIST i decided to call in the next day to CANCEL my appointment which was on the following day. (more then 24 hours notice) I spoke to reception and let her know that I would be seeking services elsewhere (since I didn't need a crown I only needed my filling replaced, which my dentist did with grace, ease, and beauty) She sweetly said "no problem honey, I can cancelled your appointment. Good luck" IMAGINE MY SURPRISE while checking my credit report this morning that they billed me for a no show appointment and SENT ME TO COLLECTIONS!!!! So... 1.) Dr Winegardens offices are crooks... they try to perform UNNECESSARY dental work at inflated prices! That was the first strike... HOW UNETHICAL!!!! and... 2.) they will claim they cancel your appointments within their specified "cancellation policy" (which I thought was funny they had posted in several places around the reception desk) AND NEVER CANCEL and then put you into collections for something you should never be responsible for. I am making a complaint not only on yelp but if this is not taken off of my credit report I will be seeking services of an attorney to further handle this matter. DO NOT USE THIS DENTIST!!!!! SCAM ARTIST AND UNETHICAL PRACTICES!!! read more

The ladies in reception were very friendly and personable, and my qualms are not with them. The dental hygienist was also very friendly, but during my routine cleaning, she only polished my bottom row of teeth. What about my top chompers, eh? When the dentist came in (Dr. Winegarden), he mixed up my charts with someone else's, and talked to me like I was a child. He barely looked at my teeth, asked if I had any questions, and when I voiced a question about bleaching trays, he quickly said "Well, that doesn't have anything to do with me" and abruptly walked away. The dental hygienist took care of it for me, but still. You're a professional, I'm giving you my business, and you're acting like an idiot. They informed me that my bleaching trays would be ready two days later, and I could pick them up any time in the afternoon. So, four days later (I gave them a bit of wiggle room to get them finished) I went in around 1pm, and no one was there. I had to call out "hello?" several times before anyone wandered out to reception to tell me they were all at lunch. At the same time? Then why is the door open, if no one is going to be there to greet me? When I finally got to ask about my trays, they told me they weren't ready yet, and would I like to come back in a few days? I live clear across town, and told them that that was unacceptable. They offered to mail them to me, which I accepted. That gesture was one of their only saving graces. My final complaint is that during my visit, the dentist had told me I had "perfect teeth", and yet two weeks after my visit I get a phone call from their office saying that I actually have a cavity after all, and would I like to schedule an appt to fix it? Sure, but not with you. read more

While visiting Fresno, one of my crowns fell and I was able to get an appointment with Dr. Efema for the next day. My family and I have been patients of Dr. Nwajei for a few years now. All her work has been excellent. I've never written a review for any doctor or business. However, I felt it was necessary to write this one. I recently developed a tooth abscess. Dr. Nwajei and her staff went out of their way to take care of me. The care they provided was beyond what I expected. She was very attentive and listened to my concerns. She showed compassion when I found myself in excruciating pain and even stayed after work hours to care for me. Thank you Dr. Nwajei! You're the best! I went to A Beautiful Smile after a bad experience another office. I needed to have a crown put on due to a crack in the tooth. They told me how much it cost right up front and the insurance was billed for me. Later after the crown was put in, I scheduled an appointment with the hygienist for a cleaning. Her hand was steady and my teeth felt really clean afterward. They had taken photos of my teeth with this great camera that magnified every problem on a wide screen monitor so that I could actually see that what work I needed was true. The office is beautiful, modern and comfortable with great paintings everywhere. The staff was sweet, competent and friendly. The doctor was the best. He talked gently and without judgment about the other work I needed to have. I would highly recommend this office. Oh yes, I got a FREE teeth whitening when I finished getting my work done. read more

We saw Dr. Winegarden in February 2015 because we purchased a Groupon. The staff and doctor were all very nice... but let the horror story begin. Dr. Winegarden said my son had 8 cavities and we needed to schedule 2 appointments to do all the fillings. A few days later I made the appointment. Something told me to check Yelp though and all I found was terrible reviews and awful stories. So I called and told the receptionist, "I'm looking at Yelp and your reviews are terrible. I just can't bring my son in for treatment because this has me too worried." She said, "Oh, those are old reviews." I said, "Well, you all were very friendly and Dr. Winegarden was nice but I'm still uncomfortable." She said, "Oh he retired last week. We have a new doctor." I said, "So you expect us to come back and get treatment from some doctor we've never met? Why didn't you tell me Dr. Winegarden wouldn't be doing the work? I want my x-rays sent to me." They sent them to me through email 4 days later. My son got to the new dentist today and the dentist couldn't figure out why my son had so much work done by 17 yrs old. Well, they were MY x-rays. So they had to start over with new x-rays and guess what? He doesn't have 8 cavities. He has ONE and one to watch. This place is a scam and should be shut down. I don't care if they have a new dentist. It's a hokey unprofessional operation and anybody who goes there is asking for trouble. Read all the reviews!! read more

I've had positive interactions with all the dental hygienists in this office, but the dentists are incompetent crooks. I've been a patient for a year and during my first two visits (over a 6-month period) I had no serious complaints. I was incredulous when my first set of x-rays (supposedly) revealed a mouthful of cavities but I didn't read into it. However I did feel I was being upsold and decided to postpone treatment. After several months I set aside some money for dentistry and returned to "A Beautiful Smile" to have the two most serious cavities filled. Turns out they botched the job. For two weeks after the procedure I was having the most painful toothache of my life. I returned to have the fillings examined and was told one of them had cracked. To his credit Dr. Winegarden replaced the filling free of charge, but that didn't solve the problem. Even with the filling replaced I continued to have severe tooth pain, now even worse than before. So after a week I returned AGAIN to the office. To my dismay (and the disbelief of the dental assistant on hand), the dentist suggested he refill the cavity AGAIN. I was having none of it. The dentist offered to do a root canal in house for $900 (claiming the local endodontist would charge $1200), but wouldn't have time to see me for a week. At this point I was furious. As soon as I stepped out the door I phoned the endodontist and made an appoint for the next day. What a good decision! My root canal was extremely fast and painless, and it only cost $900. Most importantly, DR. WINEGARDEN DIAGNOSED THE WRONG TOOTH. If I'd done that root canal in house, they would have killed the wrong tooth. That is some amateur-hour bullshit. Lastly, I went in yesterday for my biannual cleaning. Pretty straight forward. But when the cleaning was finished they told me the price was $147. I explained that on my first visit Dr. Winegarden said he would charge $85/cleaning if I made an appointment with him every 6 months. The receptionist was not surprised by this and said the "special rate" only applies for two visits. Total nonsense. In the words of another Yelp reviewer: DO NOT USE THIS DENTIST!!!!! SCAM ARTIST AND UNETHICAL PRACTICES!!! read more

I have been a patient with Dr. Winegarden for many years and did not have problems until this year. The hygienist is amazing and so are some of the dental assistants. But let me tell you my nightmare. Last year, the x-rays showed a few cavities so I began to schedule them. The fillings were completed by another doc and NOT Dr. Winegarden. So I had to return two times to get fillings fixed because they were causing pain and chewing was obstructed. The third time I went in, they attempted to do a filling I had already received and they tried to argue that it was not done. So after reviewing my chart, I was correct and their response was that the work was not done correctly and it had to be done again. I was furious, I asked the billing department that they better not charge me for their mistakes. So talking about the billing department, they are completely incompetent! They never show you what work is been done and they just charge you at the end. They don't take time to explain benefits, coverage, etc. unless you ask them to do so. Then they believe that the customer is responsible for filing a claim with the insurance. I have never filled a claim because all other medical professionals understand its their job. Then their receptionist, Kandi, is complete rude. She tends to use terms like "doll" and "sweetheart" which I find very unprofessional. I'm NOT your doll nor sweetheart! Then she schedules for treatments that have been completed twice. She tells you the wrong date and time. Then has the nerve to call you with an attitude and say you will be charged for a cancel or missed appointment. The charge is ridiculous high! DONT go here, its a nightmare. As it is, most people have anxiety going to the dentist and to top it off with incompetent staff! Just find another dental office. read more

Dr. Nwajei is amazing. She is kind and caring and always greets you with a smile. She really takes the time to listen to you concerns so that she can give you the best treatment possible. That in itself says so much about the type of dental office she runs. The staff are all very nice and are well organized. Great for the whole family! read more

Stay far away from Winegarden! I failed to do enough research before making an appointment, and sincerely regret even wasting 30 minutes of my time in that office. I was kept waiting for 15 minutes. Then, Winegarden proceeds to start poking around in my mouth without introducing himself, asking questions, or explaining what he was doing. In all of 5 minutes, he barks at one of the assistants numerous commands and then gets up and leaves. I look at the assistant quizzically and ask, "What just happened?" She replies sheepishly, "You have 8 teeth that need fillings." What in the world??? That's not possible. i did not schedule a follow-up appointment. Instead, I have the presence of mind to research, ask others, etc. and find a reputable dentist. The dentist I see checks my teeth thoroughly, takes x-rays, asks questions, etc. and finds that I have no cavities at all. It is clear that Winegarden was out to make a chunk of money of me by creating business for himself. Shame on him!!!!! He needs to have his license revoked. read more

This office is amazing. Despite the 2 bad reviews I read (which some people just don't have patience anymore) I made an appt. Upon arriving for my first visit, I had to wait a few minutes which is no big deal. Yes, it is cold in the office, but that was great for those of us that are nervous and sweating. Next time, bring a sweater! The hygienist Lisa, was wonderful and cleaned my teeth beautifully. X-rays were taken and impressions were made for the whitening trays. Dr. Winegarden then paid me a visit. People, let's face it, he is a busy man with many patients. He did a great job at answering my questions and informing me of my dental hygiene. I didn't expect him to sit and have coffee with me. My trays were ready in 2 days as promised. I have been back 2 times since (for fillings) and let me tell you, I love this office. I have been terrified of the dentist since childhood, and Dr. Winegarden changed that fear. He assured me that he would take his time and explain things every step of the way, and he did just that. I didn't feel a thing. They gave me head phones to listen to music, to ease my nervousness and even offered a blanket if I was cold. Gilbert is a wonderful assistant and really made sure I was comfortable. Dr. Winegarden's work is flawless. You can't even tell I had work done. If I could go back every month for a cleaning, I would. read more

This dentist is far and away the worst I have ever been to. At 60+ years and counting that is a lot of dentists. His chairside manner is brutish and it is obvious he clearly likes to fabricate repairs to my teeth that do not need to be done. His office staff are rude and incompetent. If that stupid girl calls me sweetie or honey one more time I swear i will slap her. If she is too stupid to remember my name, she should find something else to do...like maybe walmart greeter. She can call everyone sweetie there and not be offensive. Do yourself a favor and find a better dentist than this one. read more

In response to Thomas W. Wow, really? Bragging? The problem I had was that I was sent a letter stating that I needed to pay the amount in full by a date that was a week later. That gave me enough time to get my paycheck and send out a payment to you. Then I get a call from your office stating that you needed payment the VERY NEXT DAY!!! I had already stuck a check in the mailbox but I knew you would not get it by the next day so that is why I called. Rude? Yes, I have a hard time being nice to someone who talks over me and won't listen to what I'm trying to say. I also have a hard time being nice when someone is being sarcastic and unprofessional. When I asked to talk to Dr. Winegarden himself, I was rudely told that she was Winegarden. I think if you're going to send out a bill with a due date, you need to stick to that due date. Also, this account was paid in full several months ago. I'm not sure why you keep bringing it up. As far as I'm concerned, the matter is closed as I am no longer a patient there and you've got your money. Don't you have anything better to do than spend your days on Yelp? read more

A few months ago I came for the first time and had my teeth cleaned. They made my teeth really white. I needed a root canal done at that time but did not have the insurance or money and had to cancel. I finally got good insurance that covers a decent amount and leaves me with a small copay. They told me that I'd have to pay 85.00 for my missed appt before because I have been put into the system as a 'no show' even though I told them well in advance that I could not keep that other appt. On the phone the front desk was nice enough to say that they would waive the fee since it was a while ago. (This is the only nice thing they did for me). I returned to a Beautiful Smile to see if they could do the canal for me. I was running late to my appt since I get rides from my mother and she has a tendency to run late. I received a call that I missed at the time from the front desk.(More on that later). When I came in they could not find my chart so I had to fill out my info all over again. I did a set of xrays which were painful. The bitewings that they use are uncomfortable. I waited for Winegarden and instead they gave me a doctor I didn't even know was in the building now. He told me that I needed a procedure called crown lengthening and that I needed to be referred out to a specialist. He was entirely sure that I needed it and left me in the chair for a long while. When finished I asked them how long this whole process would take from root to crown and they said I could have it done in a month. The price breakdown was given to me and I was referred out to a specialist. That day I checked my voice mail and it was a very rude, condescending, and unprofessional message from the blonde at the front desk saying that I have a bad habit of not showing up and that this is why they wanted a deposit from me. She said and I quote, "Here we go again." The person that they said was the dentist I would receive wasn't even the one that saw me. I was having pain after the treatment and called the office to see if they could look at it for me and possibly refer me to another endontist. I was in tears on the phone from the pain. The person I spoke to was kind and said to come right in. I came in and the blonde gave me a look wondering what I was doing there without an appointment and pretty much said they can't do anything for me. As the dentist that referred me out I am pretty sure they could have done something! She had an attitude with me and said that I had to ask the endontist that I am going to. She got the date wrong that I went into see the endontist and when I corrected her she said "Whatever." I asked them to prescribe me something as my general dentist to get me through the weekend and she said no. I don't know what problem she has with me but it would be appreciated if she fixed that attitude! I came down to the office for nothing for something that could have been said over the phone. My suspicion is that when the woman saw it was me that she no longer wanted to help! The staff used to be very kind, the blonde with the earrings and braces is a sweetheart but the older blonde lady is as rude as they come. Winegarden is nice, and cracked a few jokes as I waited for the other dentist. It's just that sarcastic woman at the front who handles the billing that needs a attitude check. I went here once and had a good experience with white teeth but came back just to be treated like dirt. It's funny, you call them and they are nice but when they call you they are despicable. read more

This place has changed for the better! My first experience here was in April 2013. I bought a Groupon for an exam, x-rays, and cleaning. The dental hygienist who did the cleaning was very nice, but the cleaning was a waste of time. My teeth looked exactly the same after the cleaning. I have mild staining (I'm a coffee drinker) and she didn't get any of the stains off. I've had my teeth cleaned many times before at other practices and never had a problem with stain removal, so I was pretty disappointed but I figured you get what you pay for. After my "cleaning," Dr. Winegarden came over to talk to me about my x-rays. He was pretty condescending and detached, but I figured that was just his personality. I've always been under the care of a dentist and had good dental hygiene. I've never had a cavity. Until that day. Suddenly I had FOUR major cavities that needed to be filled ASAP. Oh, and one needed a root canal, which was going to cost a little over $800. I told them I'd call them back when I came up with the money, but you know how that goes. Now I have dental insurance through my employer, so I went back to this place because they had already seen me and it would be easier than starting over somewhere else. I made appointments for myself and my kids. I was informed that Dr. Winegarden had sold his practice and there was a new dentist. I was like, ok, whatever. It's not like we were close or anything. This time my cleaning was done by a different hygienist and I couldn't be happier with the results. He really took his time and my teeth are completely stain-free. And thank GOD for this new dentist. She is amazing. My kids absolutely loved her, she is very gentle and patient and I felt very comfortable in her care. The new dentist showed me our x-rays and explained everything to me. I was very surprised and relieved to hear that I, in fact, have ZERO cavities. I did need some fillings because I grind my teeth at night, which is a problem I've had and been aware of for some time. She offered me a custom made mouth guard, but also told me where I can find a comparable one for a lot cheaper. Long story short, I am very happy with the service and care I've received since the change of ownership. After reading the previous reviews I'm so glad I didn't have Dr. Winegarden do any work for me. I dodged a bullet! But don't let the past reviews deter you. The new dentist made all the difference in my experience. read more

Pay close attention to these reviews and be extremely mindful of your decision to enter into a professional patient/dentist relationship with this office. Dr. Winegarden is a kind, hard-working man who strives to do his best with what he's been dealt with. These reviews hit the nail on the head in regards to his front office's business policies and practices which are rigorously and meticulously overseen by Dr./Mrs. Winegarden (PhD in Psychology mind you). She is absolutely an iron-horse when it comes to being paid, regardless of her response in these reviews that the blame is pinned on someone who hasn't paid in over a year. A professional in any business or in any medical field would not stoop to such levels of running their customer(s) or previous patients through the mud in their attempt to always be right. Unless the communist wall falls and the iron-horse finds herself her own office and practice, find yourself another dentist. This one's not for you! And by the way, I, too have had work done one week, received a bill the following week and had the due date be two weeks from that point as if I was delinquent. Very poor and unprofessional customer service. Guerrilla customer care tactics, or should I say "scare tactics". read more

This guy is a scam artist. He told me i had 12 cavities and when i questioned him on it, he was rude and would only say that the xrays don't lie and then when i continued to question it, he literally pushed me out to the receptionist and said he's told me the facts and make the appointment to get them filled. He wanted 3 separate appointments to fill my 12 cavities and even after i told the receptionist and dr. winegarden I did not believe I have that many cavities and I would not schedule appointments, they continued to pressure me to make the appointments for several more minutes until i was in almost in tears and about yelling at them that i would not sign the papers to make appointments. They have signs all over the office saying a canceled appointment, no matter how long in advance you cancel, is an $80 charge. Also, there are signs everywhere saying that they charge $85 to transfer your records. WHAT?? I paid for my records and xrays, give them to me!! But no, they refuse to give you your own xrays that you pay for unless you pay them $85. Well, let me tell you why they dont want to give you your xrays.
