They seemed like the go-to place and I have not been disappointed! It was so easy to order chicks and supplies and everyone has been SO friendly. My girls are about 6 weeks now but when they were a few weeks old I reached out to EggPlant in a panic because I thought one was going to be a rooster. Jessika took the time to talk me down and listen to what I was seeing - she eased my mind but also let me know what they could do if one did turn out to be a male (which you can't have in the city). All in all, I think my little Lottie just matured faster than her hatch-mates but I am glad to know I can contact EggPlant for whatever I need for them going forward. They were really hands-off once you picked up your chicks but very responsive if you need help with them.

In the spring they have chicks for sale and it's a fun time to stop in and see them. They have so many helpful books and how to guides for gardening, chickens, pickling, cheese making and canning. The ambiance is so sweet and fun to shop in this quaint shop. The only thing that could be improved is their customer service. They aren't all that friendly or welcoming. But I'll keep shopping here.

Why am I discussing this beverage? Because it was in the small $8 Arnold Palmer at the State Fair, combined with a store-bought lemonade. I'm glad I didn't get the $15 watermelon Palmer. The grilled peach is a brilliant invention, expertly prepared for the second year in a row, and I'm not sure how many points should be taken off for something that isn't part of the day-to-day activities. But I don't want an $8 beverage that's 50% Gold Peak, especially from a place with farm-to-table vibes. I don't think state fair drinks have to be exclusively made with filtered rainwater from Grand Marais, but let customers choose whether to pay extra for the good stuff or just get a Pepsi.

I love being able to pick up the random things I need like a jar of local honey or peanut butter. It's also great because you can also do a real purposeful trip here and get pretty much everything you'd need from dairy products, produce, dry foods, meats, etc. They also have great seasonal produce, I've picked up pomegranates here and they have a huge pumpkin and squash collection! I think this is also a nice spot if you're looking for a gift, they've got some novelty things like stickers, mugs, and dish towels. Staff is always nice and there is no credit card minimum. I participated in a virtual Nourush 201 Summer Series cooking class 'Black Bean Burgers' with Chef…read moreJess Delicious Toliver through Seward Community Co-op Nourish 101 program. The class was excellent. Very fun and educational. They provided the list of ingredients, equipment and recipe in advance so you could be prepared and prep in advance and cook along at the same pace as the chef and enjoy dinner afterwards. We mashed the beans (or you could use a food processor). And chopped the veggies. (chef used fresh, I sautéed mine first I just don't care for onion or raw garlic). Add spices (cumin, Hot paprika, pepper, salt, and sauce. We eat an egg ( or you can make Chia seed egg) and you could add breadcrumbs. We then mixed with our hands and formed patties. One can of black beans makes four burgers. As we cooked, host Lasked questions and also relayed our questions from the chat. Chef Jess provided her background and how she got into the cooking and being a personal chef now and trying to make healthy meals and promote wellness through food. She gave lots of suggestions on various summer meals and a variety of veggie burger combinations. And showed us how to chop the vegetables and provided the knife she prefers. She gave us tips on photographing food from above not the side (Check out my cool hands in the air photos) Made mine with black beans, poblano, peppers, carrots. onions, egg and buffalo sauce. (I sautéd the veggies with garlic and herbs) we baked the burgers in oven. Chef Jess used Sriracha. But she gave us lots of suggestions in how to make it your own. she gave alternates if you wanted to make it vegan or gluten-free or dairy free etc. (I am pescatarian). As far as assembling the burgers. I fried two eggs. And sliced an avocado, tomato and some radishes Topped with the buffalo sauce (use sour cream instead of mayo), avocados, radish, and tomato and served on mixed greens. You don't need no stinking bread. Yum. They turned out so good. And so filling. I'll be making again. Next time with garbanzo beans. Thank you Chef Jess! And thank you seaward community co-op /Lawson for hosting.

I absolutely love the duck! The fact they had duck!! Customer service was top notch can't forget about my new buddy in the glasses. This is my MF place!! Top spot on all of the street. I'm looking forward to trying more on my next visit. Basically cleared out the hot dogs the other day and I was like the first person in the shop lol sorry but not sorry. I didn't try them before but they were damn good and shouldn't of been that damn delicious and they have that snap too. I got a chuck roast too for later in the month or maybe I'll try to do easter? Is it beef or duck that they have on Easter I wonder.. either this place is the dream spot of the MEATS (PAUSE! LOL that's me being goofy). Young and older people should fully support this place. I recently moved here but this is my JAMMY JAM!! I wonder if they had meat jam or pickled onions? Honestly somebody to build a bakery and cheese shop nearby so you just get my meat, cheese and bread all on one perfect block. Might have to find a job or buy a house near this place. If they haven't been here for 100yrs.. I hope you make it to that and another 100yrs. Btw who's the MF who made this pie?! This is the best apple pie ever had. I come from San Diego.. we're supposedly doing an apple pie considered like the best but someone was lying. This apple is delicious!! I'm coming for another pie next .. possibly this week but I need to stop spending. You BETTER have those pies on stock

It's very rich, though, so you get a lot of flavor in a little bit, so it does last. My real find, though, was this Pork Tamale Handpie thing. I wish I could remember the name. The pork was flavorful and highly spiced, the dough flaky, and I don't know how they got the masa in there, but I could taste and feel it (you know that mouthfeel). It was buttery, flaky, crispy, spicy, meaty, and sweet all at the same time and I am positively obsessed. I was so glad to have decided to pick that one up. The store was lovely and the gentleman behind the counter was fantastic - friendly, knowledgeable, and personable. I will absolutely be back.
