They have a drive in with carhops (people who serve food to those in their cars) and even though we ate inside, the restaurant was full both inside and out. The booths have a note to order by phone but a waitress took our orders for us. The food was hot and there was a lot of it; The coney dog was great and the papa burger was so big, my husband couldn't eat it all. There were plenty of cheese curds and fries to share. First time at an A&W and honestly I was impressed! You pull up to a stall and press the button to order! The menu is very simple and easy to read and there's one at every stall. You wait at the stall for them to bring out your order and they take payment while handing you your meal. My food was piping hot and delicious, no complaints whatsoever!! Reasonable pricing for a filling meal. The carhop was very kind and even complimented my fingernails. Great and reasonable service with friendly staff! I had such an amazing experience. There's not many restaurants that have the carhop and I had just a great time quick ordering amazing service. We had a pretty good experience here. I always stop to an a&w on my way up north. Great burger fries and ice cream. It can get a little pricey for fast food. This particular location is old school with the ordering from a phone at the table. Waitstaff was kind. Sometime the workers chatted more than they did their Job. Overall great read more

I hate to give this rating, been coming here for over 50 years. I know getting good help is next to impossible. I think more training or the use of common sense would have helped a lot. Cheese curds undercooked, coney dog dried out, chili way to thick ( a little water to thin it out would have been great), bun was so dry couldn't even eat it. Drinks and dessert items running down the side of the glass. Maybe teach the staff if they wouldn't accept the item if delivered to them, then don't take it to a customer. We stopped off to get a late lunch here on our way back from Tawas. Ordered our food and then their "system went down". We were patient, waited nearly an hour. The last straw was when the car next to us was served, and they came in after us. That's when they told us they didn't even have our order. Then the waitress just shrugged her shoulders and mumbled "sorry" with a chuckle. Then she had the nerve to ask why we would wait an hour?!?! I don't typically give reviews either way, but after our experience yesterday I just had to. Took my brother here upon his request for his retirement dinner. The lack of cars in the parking lot should have been our first clue. Upon entering, we were not greeted even though there were more than one employee behind the counter. The dining area was not clean. My sister warned me not to use the dirty restroom so I didn't. Then the food.... We spent $55 for burgers and fries and were so disappointed. The bacon was chewy, the buns were smashed flat, the burger tasted old and was rubbery, the onions and lettuce were old and wilted, the fries were cold and the cheese curds weren't cooked all the way through. The only thing that was good was the root beer, although I was hoping for a "frosty mug" like in the old days. Stopped here on the way to vacation and celebrate my birthday. Little did I know that I would be suffering all weekend and still am from getting food poisoning from this place. We have a A&W close to our home and the food is great, so I thought today let's have some here in Standish. I got the double papa burger and large fries. The fries had been good but the burger, only onion, no salad or tomato's just the buns, patties, onions and some dressing. It is not easy to write this as I am also a small business owner. Our visit to this restaurant will be our last. My wife and I arrived and placed our order outside. We waited patiently but then the car next to us was served that arrived well after we did. We asked the waitress what was going on, and that we had been waiting an hour for our food. This is were it went poorly. The response was snarky and not what I would have expected. I pulled out and drove to the other side of the restaurant so I could go in. Upon entering I could hear the waitress complaining about us. After hearing that I was truly upset. She behaved as if it were our fault that we did not get our food. I then spoke to the manager. No attempt on his part to resolve the situation. I went inside to give them an opportunity, but quickly realized that was not going to happen. I left and will never return. At Standish MI: Yesterday, July 4, 2023 we did not get what we ordered at the drive-in. The "music/ racket" piped from the facility was so LOUD that the order-taker could not hear what we said, even after several repetitions. (If people want to listen to that racket, they have radios in their vehicles.) She did repeat back to us the order, but we did not get it all. We asked for 3 hotdogs (not coney) with everything on. We got only 2, with fries & diet rootbeer. We also asked for coleslow on the side. We got none. Previously, coleslaw was part of the hotdog basket when we ate inside... They now use a tablet to figure the cost, so we got no receipt. Therefore, we really do not know what we paid for... We were happy that the drinks came in take-out cups rather than the mugs, which do not fit into the drink spaces in the vehicles. We gave a $5 tip on a $13+ order, because the staff did work on a National Holiday. read more

Where's the sauce. My coney had a dried out crumbling bun, more onions than hotdog and a tiny amount of coney sauce. The world famous onion rings were stale and tasted like it was fried in bad oil. My hubby's footing had very little sauce and the bun was dried and crumbling. Never again. read more
