I stopped at Tony's tacos once because the reviews are really good. I had a much different experience. The food was inedible. I literally couldn't eat either of the things that I ordered. One was a burrito and one was a taco. I ended up throwing both of them away, friendly service but you gotta like the food. read more

We were happy to run across Tony's Tacos while on our journey home from up north Michigan. The steak tacos were very flavorful, the meat was chopped in big chunks. It was a little tough, maybe another hour being cooked would have done the trick. It was Memorial Day Weekend, I will forgive this because the flavor and the portions were on point!! A nice find in an seasonal area where not much is open. Spent a few days in the Au Gres/Tawas area. Most of the bars/restaurants open next month. Found this place before heading on the I-75. The food: Cooked when you order. Got the Taco Macho (Carne Asada) & Gordita (pork). Both were spot on and delicious. It's like I never left California. Well seasoned meat. Had to pay extra for Carne Asada but well worth it! Good portion sizes too. Facility/Service: Good Covid Protocols in place. Mask wearing when ordering and picking up food. Touch less payment available. Picnic tables with shade behind the truck. Porto John available. 4.5/5 for me. Will give it another visit and may bump it up! read more

Just off the US23 exit in Standish you'll see a red shack of a taco stand and wonder, "Is that place any good?" Well, mi amigos, the answer is a definitive "YES"! Every summer we stop at Tony's Tacos 2 or 3 (or seven) times and the street tacos are simple and great, just like street tacos should be. On this visit I had the three for $7 basket with beef, chorizo and barbacoa tacos. Loved every single bite!!! Do yourself a favor, if you are passing by Tony's, and it's open, pull over for a little roadside Mexican treat--there's always room for at least one street taco, right?!? read more

Stop here on our way north. The place is about 3 miles away from 75, just FYI. It's a stationary food truck. Expect food truck pricing, because it was much more expensive than regular Mexican restaurants. It's def authentic. Food came out quickly. We got 5 tacos & elotes. The Carnes asada was a little salty, but the meat was good & plenty. We also got the chicken & pulled pork. We both thought the chicken was a bit bland for our taste. Mmmm.... Taco truck Mexican! The food is so good. Their beef isn't super greasy so you won't get the bubble guts too bad. I'm out of sequence here, it's just the thought of tacos! Speaking of tacos, theirs are delicious, but a little over priced in my opinion, $3.50. The nachos are pretty amazing are are well worth the money! You seriously get a pound for about $10. Homemade salsa and guacamole is delicious too! Now I've gotta warn you, it's not the cleanest looking place. They have s porta-john feet away from the trailer that is serving the tacos. Luckily, you can't smell it on the outside. Next, there are weeds and trash out back, which isn't too appealing. The menu has had many changes so there is a lot crossed off and taped over. All of that aside, the staff are really nice and they have great food. I figured I should mention that they have great food again! read more

Tony's is a small food truck off the side of the road, but don't let that stop you. The food is great. Very fresh and oh so tasty. My only issue is the salsa can be watery, so its best to order your salsa on the side. I have tried many of the menu items and all of them have been good. read more

Welp I've died and went to heaven. I saw the reviews but was intrigued with the long line every time i drove by. I stopped in and got Mexican corn on the cob , a steak street taco and a chicken Gordita. The corn was amazing the best I've had aside from what you'd find in southern Cali. The steak street taco to was authentic and had a great marinade and spice. The Gordita was stuffed with so much shredded chicken I ate two bites and was full. Trust me when I say this is worth a road trip if you are craving good Mexican . Oh and they even have ice cold Mexican coke in a bottle. read more

Been wanting to go here for years and today we finally stopped and it was the best decision! The two guys working were hilarious and had us smiling the whole time, food was soooo good that even if I was full I still ate everything. Street tacos were nice and filled with meat and juicy. The macho taco was cheesy and hot. Tamales were stuffed to the brim with meat. The salsa wasn't very hot at all even if it was mild but still very good. Hoping they had elote but since we came outside of corn season they didn't have it which was perfectly fine! Just gives me an excuse to come back during the summer! Which I will be coming back to get my hands on some elote! read more

Tony's Taco's is a food truck, but don't let that fool you. They have covered outside seating. This is no Taco Bell. Tony's tacos has the best taco's for miles's around. The "street tacos" are authentic and are so go they leave you wanting more. The Mexican corn on the cob is made with mayo, Mexican cheese and cilantro and is hot and sweet. I go there quite often. They are closed on Monday's. The only downside is that the prices are a little high but are worth it. You should check it out. read more

The trailer is back! My dad turned me on to this little carnival-esque stop on the way up north about 8 years ago. Since then the owners tried to open up an eat in place but this year I noticed they are back to the trailer-except now it's on the other side of the road and they added a nicer picnic area. The food here is really outstanding-as close to Mexico as you can get outside of SW Detroit. I am always really confused as to how the owners ended up there though? Ah well, onto the food. The seafood cocktail appetizer they serve is ridiculous. I know, I know, seafood at a roadside STAND??!! Alas, I am adventurous and my immune system can handle it. The seafood is shredded shrimp of some sort with avocado, tomato sauce/salsa of some sort, queso fresco and delicious homemade chips. The bf always gets the tacos and you can see the meat simmering on the portable stovetop as you order. The guacamole is to die for. This is particularly amazing since fresh avocados aren't exactly easy to come by that far north. It's fast and convenient on the way up north or home; waaay better than McDonald's!! And they'll do everything carry-out if need be. It's packaged well enough to survive 3 hours in the backseat. Oh and they have those Latin American bottled soft drinks if that's your thing-personally I think they taste like flat watered down garbage. One word of caution-they only have port-a-pottys so do your business elsewhere. read more

I've been going to Tony's for quite a few years. I'm glad to see he went back to the roadside stand because the restaurant just wasn't as good. And the waitstaff was just collecting a paycheck. I camp on the Au Sable with buddies and go through Standish to get there. I can not (and I stess CAN NOT) go through the area without stopping at Tony's. His food is just awesome! Authentic and tasty! Even got a couple of my camping buddies hooked on it! Great food, Tony and his daughter and super people and where else can you get some Mexican soda? Ok, there's a little place by my house that sells it, but Tony's is worth the trip. Looking forward to the next month or so when I'm heading back up to stop off. And on the way back. :D Updating to add that Tony has a new trailer! much bigger! Same location right on 23 just off the I-75 exit. Finally got a chance to take my wife there and they do make dishes that don't have flour tortillas so if you're gluten-free, you can get great food at Tony's! read more

By far my favorite Mexican food stop here in mid-/NE Michgan -- and I mean REAL Mexican food, not Taco-Bell-style. It is totally worth sitting outside at a picnic table, or in your vehicle, to enjoy Tony's fresh, authentic food. While I like a lot of things on the menu, my favorites are the carne guisada, the huarache (made with a delicious puffy corn bread that's split like pita bread to hold its meaty goodness), and the chorizo/potato dishes. Tony and his daughter are also really friendly, helpful hosts as well as talented cooks. We were rooting for Tony's sit-down restaurant to succeed, if only for the selfish reason of wanting to be able to eat his food during the wintertime, but in our visits there we were frequently frustrated by the clueless, un-professional local help (seriously -- if you work in an ethnic restaurant, LEARN TO PRONOUNCE THE NAMES OF THE FOODS YOU'RE SERVING, and actually taste them sometime so you know what you're trying to sell), and didn't enjoy visiting his establishment as much as we'd enjoyed -- and now again enjoy -- his roadside stand. We found this place by accident when leaving Pinconning (we got lots of cheese!) and boy, what a great find! Authentic Mexican, so much so that you can get fresh ceviche. I am not an authority on authentic Mexican, but I do like fresh, well cooked food. And that's what you get here. The last time I was there, I got heuevos rancheros, the fresh shrimp ceviche and 20 tamales that I reheated on a grill. My family ate them so fast there was a single cornhusk wrapper left spinning on the plate. Amazingly great food! read more

As we were driving through Standish we were looking for a place with decently fresh food (ie. not fast food) and we noticed something different...a Mexican place with "authentic" on the sign (an overused title when it comes to Mexican, IMO) which appeared to be new this summer. So, we stopped in. I was initially VERY dissapointed. The hostess who sat us, the waitress who waited on us, and the overall look of the place was totally 'run down up north greasy spoon', which prepared me to be very disappointed. The waitress asked us, in passing, if we wanted chips and salsa and we said "sure"...then we looked at the menu. The first thing we noticed was that, under appetizers, was "chips and salsa" for $6.99!!! I just about lost it. Something most places give for free was $7? And we ordered it without knowing that! When they came they were fairly dissapointing...round chips that looked like Tostitos and a red tomato salsa (so much for authentic). But, then we tasted them and I was confused...it all tasted a bit like the real thing...hmm.... So, we ordered (I got enchiladas and the wife got a taco). When the food came I was once again confused. I was totally prepared to dislike it, but the enchilada was filled and topped with queso fresco, not some store bought blend. It was actually decent, and my wife had the same thought. She raved about the hot salsa on her taco. When the bill came I was quite anxious to see if the chips and salsa disaster were there...they were not. I'm not sure why they have them listed on the menu that way when they gave them for free. I didn't ask, I simply paid and was fairly happy, yet still a bit conflicted. It seemed to me like it was a really confusing mix of authentic and not...and I couldn't decide which way to take it. As a side note, when I asked the cashier how long they'd been here, I learned it was new in April...but only new in this location. This is the same resturaunt that used to be in a portable trailer (for 10 years!) a bit south outside Standish. It was always crowded. My take away is that this explained ALOT...the food was good (as it must have been from the trailer location) but the presentation and atmosphere needed some serious help....Hopefully over the years they'll get that part down and this will be a much more solid 4 star place to eat. read more

Nothing against Tony and his tacos but there is much left to be desired. I grew up around road side stands and taco trucks and I've had 10x better food for less $$. The food isn't bad but it's nothing above average. Their salsa is closer to a pico de gallo and the lack of meat options made me miss more authentic fare. I'm a big rice fan so I'm glad to say that the rice is good and you can tell pretty much everything on the menu is hand prepped. But again, main reason for the 2 star rating is that this place is far from good of you've ever spent some time in another part of the country where they serve down home quality Mexican food. read more

For the area this on the side of the road Mexican trailer is very good. The menu seems pricey if you are used to dining at taco bell. The $6.99 chips and salsa is a shocker...overpriced for what you get. As for the rest of the menu....it is above average. The pulled pork that is featured in the meals is superb. The customer service is average. For the area of the state they are in it gets four stars...if it was in Detroit or other more populated regions it would garner three stars.... read more

Absolutely five star. Anyone who gives him less is obviously insane. Best salsa in the world. Seriously, get extra salsa on everything you order and be prepared to experience heaven. I have no problem driving a half an hour to get there, wait in line for a half an hour (which is what sometimes happens during the summer), and then eat in my car because the picnic tables are full. In fact I am excited about it... Completely worth it! Every time I finish my meal I legitimately consider just sitting there until I am hungry again. Eat at Tony's. Often. Then take salsa and tamales (if they aren't sold out!) home with you. My fiancé refers to Tony as "my boyfriend" because I love him so much. Delicious!!! read more

I was very disappointed stopping here. After all the reviews I read I was expecting something...more. I had the quesadilla which was crispy on one side and soggy on the other, not to mention it was only on a 6 inch shell. My daughter got the avocado salad which was mainly iceberg lettuce, shredded cheese, a few VERY thinly sliced avocados, and some pico de gallo. Other family members had a chicken burrito and ceviche which were also underwhelming. The eating area is under a little shed and there are no bathrooms except for a port a potty. FYI My expectations were not super high knowing this was a roadside stand but I will not be back. read more

My family and I have been eating at Tony's for years. We are from up north (Alpena) and we have family down in the Ann Arbor and Lansing area that we visit at least once or twice a year. We stop every time we pass by Tony's. The food is excellent, the ambiance is enjoyable and the spirit is pleasant. There was another review from yesterday (7/10/11) and my family was there also. There was a large line of people and about 15 cars in the small parking area. Obviously, with that many patrons and a food truck... the orders aren't going to be flying. We also had a 30-40 minute wait, though I was very please with my product once I got it. I would highly recommend the Chorizo w/ Beans and the Taco Macho. If you'd like it spicy, ask them to prepare it "hot." It adds a little extra kick that the regular doesn't have. I also love the fresh taste of the Pico De Gallo. Keep doing what you do, Tony, and MY family will keep coming back! read more

This place rocks. Authentic roadside Mexican in a concession trailer. Food was great, presentation on paper plates and picnic tables in a steel carport was great. Nice ice cold Mexican Coke in glass bottles with lunch. Food was really clean and really authentic. Loved it. Looking forward to going back soon. They have moved to Tawas now and I had heard such great things about them that I had to stop! I waited 2 weeks, as every time I drove by they were closed, which was odd for a Saturday at 2pm. Anyways, I finally got there and they were open. Excited to try it I ordered the small chicken quesadilla, chicken tostada, rice and beans and a mexican salad for the family. The food was awful! completely flavorless. I love REAL mexican food and this was far from it. The tostada was so unbelievably small for the price! The "quesadilla" was the size of a taco at around $4. The chicken was so bland, it tasted just plain boiled. There was so much water in the bottom of the container my tostada was in, that the shell was soggy after 2 minutes when I went to eat it. The same thing happened with the salad, it was sitting in a pool of water. The rice was completely flavorless as well. I posted pictures of the food here. If you want good mexican food, I suggest driving just a bit further and going to Los Quatros Amigos. read more
