I had another recent dose of nostalgia when I visited this A&W Restaurant. It was one of the nicer looking branches as some of them have been dumpy greasy spoons. Perhaps being located near a community college campus in a nicer neighborhood played a factor. Unfortunately, the dining room was already closed when I arrived. The drive thru was still open so I pulled up and placed an order. The "All-American" menu was mostly what I remembered with the exception of items like cheese curds, chicken sliders, and corn dog nuggets. Coney dogs and root beer... those were the two staples from my childhood with the latter being available in upgraded form as floats and shakes. I chose a standard Coney Dog combo which was a hot dog with regular french fries and a soft drink. Of course, I had to pick A&W root beer as the beverage. The hot dog was covered with beef chili and diced onions. This classic flavor combination was exactly how I recalled. The fries were crispy as my batch was freshly fried. The root beer had the sweetness and amount of sassafras that I liked. The prices have risen dramatically over the decades as you used to be able to buy a coney for $0.99 or less. The service from the window was a bit slow as they may have been ramping down during the final hour of business. read more

It's Memorial Day, and my 90-year-old husband wanted something simple he hasn't had in a long time -- a root beer float and a hot dog with mustard and relish. I ordered the same. Unfortunately, the experience was very very disappointing. The hot dog bun was extremely dry, the hot dog itself was cold, they forgot the relish completely, and only put mustard on it. We only live a couple of miles away, so there's really no reason the food should have arrived cold and stale. For $17.13, this felt like highway robbery. A Memorial Day treat for my husband turned into a terrible meal experience. read more

I went to A&W for the first time and it was not a good experience. The fries were cold and had a weird aftertaste to them . The bacon burgers we order were literally thrown together . One of the cheese burgers we ordered looked like the cook got a touch of Picasso in him, the way that mustard was spread all over and on top of the burgers . It was ridiculous! I also ordered a root beer freeze and baby they barely mixed that together. It was a mess ! Mind you, the food was cold . I should've known something was up when I couldn't smell the food . I was sad when they closed in Hawaii, so I'm always happy to see them when traveling. There's one thing that I crave from here and that's the A & W root beer float that they're known for. It's so good and it says that the root beer is made fresh in store. I'm not sure how true that is. We got the #6 Double Cheeseburger Combo $10.59, regular root beer float $4.39 and a foot long coney $8.29. The root beer float hit the spot and I really liked the coney dog. It's basically a hot dog with chili, onions and mustard. I guess that's what they're known for in Detroit. read more

Painfully slow service, sloppy food, and dirty interior. Went here on my lunch break. Mistake! Took a long time to get my food and the restaurant wasn't very busy at all. When I got it to sit down and eat, the top bun was almost on the side of the burger so I had to readjust it and the fries were not very warm. Trying to find a table that wasn't sticky or had garbage on it was a bit tough too. read more

A-Ok. I went here for lunch. You order at the counter and they bring the food out to you. (If you are dining in) I got the Cheeseburger combo and enjoyed a nice cold A &W root beer. The food is decent and comes out warm, quick. The staff members are courteous and professional. The interior is orange and brown and looks like a 1950s diner with a jukebox. It was clean and well lit. Overall, decent spot for a quick bite. read more

Being near work, I've been to this location several times in the last few years. Of late, I've been fairly impressed with the food and service. The restaurant is usually quite clean, the service is quick and polite. They'll give you a nice frosted mug for your root beer if you ask. The cheese fries are excellent. We stopped at this location and bought a Coney dog with everything and a cheeseburger. The Coney dog Brown runny water in it that was to be chili? with a bun ripped in four pieces and a cheeseburger that gave me heartburn and the runs 5 minutes later. BEWARE! read more

It's already 20 degrees outside. It was warm on the inside. I walk inside the restroom, FREEZING. Washed my hands, the water is cold. Had to blow dry twice to warm up. Food comes and the chicken tenders are small for a $10 meal. Also tenders and curds were not fresh. Not a great experience read more

I will admit, I am a bit biased towards this A&W because I grew up coming to this one (grew up about 7 min from here). Really clean and I love the fact that they do bring your food to you.As for the food itself, I love the burgers here, so i would go with that (although their chicken items are good as well) and fries. So while in a way yes it is just like every other A&W, but for me, it gets a bump up more for the nostalgic feel (and you do get to ring a bell on the way out if you like the service). read more

I've always loved the food at A&W! It's a childhood thing, when they used to have drive-ins. Most of all I love the fresh cold Root Beer served in a icy mug!! Then I love the footlongs, burgers and the cheese curds!! YUM! This location is going through a renovation, so part of the seating is closed off but it doesn't effect the food or ambiance. Service was good, but once in awhile I don't get a friendly cashier, must be because it was busy and long line. One improvement I'd make is turn up a little music maybe from the 50's or Motown? read more

Had to wait a lot for the one worker delivering food to the tables. Fries were cold so was the burger. Bathroom was like a truck stop bathroom. Employees were friendly & nice. The country music drove us insane. read more

Today, I visited your restaurant in Dearborn Michigan. While ordering through the drive thru speaker, I was greeted by an incredibly rude woman who cut me off twice in the middle of my order when I wasn't finished ordering. It was clear she didn't want to be bothered and wasn't paying attention. After repeating everything on my order several times each, she then repeated it back to me so fast I could barely understand what she said, but I was pretty sure she got it right. When we got to the window, she apparently had forgotten our root beer float. When I politely said "excuse me, I think we're just missing the root beer float" she responded with the nastiest attitude and said "well why didn't you ask for it when I repeated your order back to you instead of getting an attitude about it?" Let me assure you, there was ZERO attitude coming from anyone in my vehicle. The attitude was coming from her. I was appalled that she would say something like that. After finally getting my root beer float after being charged separately for it, I said to the woman "I will be contacting your manager, there was no need to be rude with your attitude comment" her response was then "I don't have one and I don't care". Let me assure you, I will never dine at your restaurant again. I have never been treated with such disrespect in my life for doing absolutely nothing wrong and it makes me sick that you would employ people who act like that. read more
