Easily one of my most memorable dining experiences for a typical fast food joint. My friends and I had just gotten off the Wisconsin River from a 3 day canoe trip and we were craving a burger and some root beer. What better place to stop than A&W? At the booth there is a receiver which one of my friends picked up and started a fake conversation thinking it was a prop. To our surprise, an employee was on the other end ready to take our order! We placed the order over the phone at the booth and after a short wait our food was brought out to us. Employees were all very friendly and service was quick and efficient. The bacon cheeseburger and root beer combo that I ordered was top notch and a great treat to end a long weekend. Thanks A&W Boscobel!

The Jalapeño Blonde Ale and Caribbean Stout are a must! Don't be deceived by the outside; nice friendly service waiting for you inside. It's in the middle of nowhere but well worth the trip!

When we stopped in, there were none. The owner did go into their walk-in freezer and found random bottles of beer. I drank a bottle of Pig's Ass Porter and a Blueberry Wheat from Estes Park, CO. They were yummy. BUT, I would not have a mixed drink there. The place is dirty. It has definitely seen better times. I would not trust a drink being made with the liquor behind the bar. We ordered the fish fry. The baked potatoes were good. The fish was straight out of the freezer. The owner said she prides herself on making good soup. Tonight's soup, Fifteen Bean and Ham, was indeed delicious. The salad bar looked scary. I ate some cottage cheese from it, but it did not seem adequately chilled. Realize that when you stop here for a meal that it is a hole in the wall. The owner was very kind and kind of a hoot to chat with. If you are going there for the "microbrews" that the first reviewer raved about, they are apparently hit or miss.

I had heard good things about the Saloon from friends for years, but had never quite found the…read moreright time to go. Now I'm glad one of those friends suggested it last night. I was in a mood for a fish fry, so we wound our way up the Lancaster road to the sign pointing to Ellenboro, crossed the narrow bridge and pulled up right in front (a good sign that it wouldn't be too crowded). Up the stairs, through the foyer and into a cheerful, eclectic space that would be tight if there was a crowd, but there were plenty of tables open. They can probably seat around 50, if you include the seats at the bar. Our server came over right away, welcomed us and provided a menu that surprised me in that everything on it looked tempting. Honestly, since I was there for the fish, I only paid attention long enough to determine that this might be a place to bring the spousal unit next time. They had four choices for the fry - cod, catfish, blue gill and flounder (the last two are what we got). You get two sides and a roll with the dinner, one side with a basket. I had steak fries and hush puppies - both were just right. The flounder was good, but I'll give the cod a try next time. My friend's blue gill dinner was generous - looked like 5-6 pieces, while my basket had three good sized pieces (I ordered an extra side). Prices were very reasonable. The food came out fast, the music was low enough that we could hear each other without yelling, and the service was excellent. Honestly, the only minor quibbles were that there was too much food to leave room for dessert, and that it was a bit chilly sitting by the window! Definitely will put this into our rotation!
